The long-awaited trade of Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard apparently is in the works.
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reported on Thursday that Sheppard visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday. The Eagles, per Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News, had no comment.
Sheppard can’t talk to the Bucs or any other team without permission from the Eagles. So, presumably, the visit was part of an effort by the Bucs to get to know Sheppard, and possibly to figure out what kind of contractual adjustment will need to be made to get him on the team.
But Sheppard said he wasn’t there to talk business with the Bucs. “I was there to see some people at the University of South Florida that I know, and while I was there I saw some of the Bucs players,” Sheppard told the Tampa Tribune. “I saw receiver Antonio Bryant a little bit and linebacker Matt McCoy. But I didn’t meet with anybody in the front office.”
It has been rumored for months that the Eagles were looking for a first-round pick for Sheppard, and that teams were willing only to give up a second-rounder. Glazer writes that the deal likely will entail a second-round pick and another pick or player.
We’ve gotten multiple e-mails from folks in the Philly chapter of PFT Planet who think that the player will be Bucs receiver Michael Clayton, a one-time first-round pick who has flamed out over the past few years.
The problem for the Eagles is that they didn’t try to trade Sheppard before signing Asante Samuel. Once Samuel was on board, it became obvious that the Eagles would move Sheppard, necessarily reducing their leverage in trade talks.

Can we keep Lito and restructure his contract? I know that’s not like the Eagles, but can that be a possibility? Move Sheldon Brown to Safety; where he played in college and publicly said he would embrace. That gives us 2 probowl corners. If it doesn’t work out at Safety address corner next year. I know it’s not likely, but I don’t want to just give him away for nothing. Long Shot? Probably!

OK honestly this doesn’t mean anything yet. Nothing says we have to trade him to the Bucs. This could be just a move to throw the other teams looking at him into a panic seeing a team actually checking him out and convince them to offer what we want. It could also be a trade where we get a pick and a player that we don’t need but another team wants and we just ship both off to them for a WR.
As for the Eagles got screwed in the Cowboy trade. If you remembered according to the draft trade chart the Cowboys OVERPAID to get our pick. Period end of story. Now I don’t really agree with the Kolb pick but I did not and still don’t want Olsen. Bradley is our starting MLB, Abiamiri should be our starting LDE, Kolb is our back up QB.

I dont whay I bother but here I go….
First off, the Eagles have restructed contracts in the past….just not with guys who miss 8 games a season then want more money!
The Eagles have drafted 10 pro-bowlers since 1998 which is the most in the league (Reid and heckert have been calling the shots since ‘99) so I think they know what they are doing.
A 1st, 2nd, and Lito for Roy “The Truth” Williams is a Joke! “The truth” hasn’t completed a season since his career started and (this one is too good) go look at the stats….Kevin Curtis had a better season then him last and “The Truth” had three more recievers (including Cal Johnson) demanding coverage…..where was his production? Plus they dont want to trade him…..you need TWO to tango - NITWIT!
I believe a trade with the bucs for anything less than there 1st would be stupid, but I also believe having two Pro-Bowl corners would be a good thing…..but what do i know?

I want to keep Lito, but I’d do a 2nd round pick and Clayton…He had 1200 yards as a rookie in 2004 and then fell out of favor with Gruden. That and terrible QBs in 05-07 are enough to make me forgive the last three years and look at the potential from 2004. He’s still only 24 years old

The Kolb pick was HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldnt believe my eyes and ears when I heard that pick with Chris Houston on the board.
I second round pick for lito. and a bum washed up wr, would be a horrible move.
Why would the Eagles restructure Lito’s deal? he is getting paid peanuts.
If you can only get a second round pick, keep him, and put him in the RCB position and sheldon brown as your nickle= best secondary in football.

Mustbechris, it doesn’t just happen in Madden world Detroit is going
to lost Roy after this season anyway, he is looking for a big pay day
(which he deserves because he is a beast) and they have their big ticket Franchise wideout of the future on the team, they are not going to pay two wideouts big money, especially since the coach came out and said they are going to be a run oriented team. The Lions saying they’re not trading him means they want more, or they want to be overwelmed. Our Eagles have the picks and Lito to overwelm the Lions. If we get Roy we’re going back to the Superbowl. and we have plenty of Cap space look at EaglesCAp.com. and Detroit desperately need help on the defense. I would not do the Tampa deal. Clayton is a bum he need blocking down field if the Wideouts we have is not getting enough seperation to get the ball.
Another thing all the experts say this is a draft with no clear sure shot talent, at 19 there will be even less of sure thing blow Detroit’s mind and get Roy, give them an offer they can’t refuse

Tampa needs to sweeten the pot. Their second rounder, Stovall instead of Clayton, and Chris Simms to boot. Philly is F’d without McNabb and Simms has talent. Tampa isn’t going to use him and they need a corner.
