Though it is now widely expected that the New York Giants will trade tight end Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints, John Clayton of ESPN.com reports that the two sides are at odds over compensation for Shockey, who was a first-round draft pick of the Giants in 2002.
Per Clayton, the Giants want more than a second-round pick; Clayton suggests that the Saints aren’t even sold on the idea of giving up more than a third-rounder.
Still, Clayton says that a deal is “likely” to get done.
The Giants have already given Shockey, who broke his leg in December, a physical, and they’ll share the results with the Saints if there isn’t enough of an opportunity for New Orleans to conduct it’s own poking and prodding of Shockey in time to do the deal before the pick(s) are on the clock.

There’s a reason why the Giants aren’t getting a second round pick from the Saints; Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the Saints are offering the 40th pick overall (their second round pick) to the Eagles for Lito Sheppard.
As I said earlier in the week in one of the Lito columns on here, I felt that the Eagles were hoping the Rams would cough up their 33rd pick overall (their second rounder), but I doubted they would.
Brookover wrote that that indeed is the case, although the Eagles were still holding out hope that they would change their stance. Brookover said 5 total teams are in the bidding.

i think the saints should try and get shockey and if they have to give up a 2nd rounder and a late round pick its ok the saints will not pick anyone with that talent level at tight end in this draft class… but if they want more like brown or harper i would have to lean towards not making the trade because even tough shockey will be an upgrade drew brees can do wonders with what ever players he is given( look at lance moore for christ’s sake)and the extra picks we save not getting shockey can be used to shore up the sub par D the saints have

Giants are NOT intelligent. Jeremy Shockey is not the reason they won without him). They got lucky. But good for them. They ought to keep the astounding talent around, or they will surely be sorry.

Yeah, the Giants just got lucky winning 3 postseason road games, including a Superbowl victory undefeated Patriots team. Shockey would be a terrible week to week media distraction at this point. He is on the physical decline and the 42nd overall pick is more than fair value. Not to mention they already have an impressive young TE who may just be a better fit for the Giants offense.

Actually, it was 4 postseason road games… But Boss is hardly a sure thing. He couldnt block DeMarcus Ware for the life of him in the Divisional round.

Don’t judge the guy based on Ware turning him inside out. He does that to a lot of guys.
