The St. Louis Rams are not on the clock, but as the owners of the second pick in a draft with no suspense surrounding No. 1, the Rams are the team everyone is watching.
And with the usual caveats that everything coming out of every team’s camp right now could be a smoke screen, all signs point to LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey being taken with the second pick.
One team official told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “It’s not a clear-cut choice,” but most reports indicate that team president John Shaw, General Manager Jay Zygmunt, coach Scott Linehan and executive vice president of player personnel Billy Devaney are close to a consensus on Dorsey, with Virginia defensive end Chris Long second on the team’s board and Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston third.
The Rams no doubt wish they could open contract negotiations with one or all of those players, but the league has told them they can’t.
The one wild card is whether another team will make the Rams a big offer to move up. The team most likely to trade up is New Orleans, and the Saints are also believed to be targeting Dorsey.

Sounds like a smokescreen to me, to get the teams that want Dorsey to move up. I think they’re locked in on Chris Long.

BULLCRAP!!!
Any NFL team worth their salt should have set their draft board already … it’s three days before the draft for crap’s sake. if they can’t get the top of their board straight, their heads must be about to explode when it comes to successive rounds.
This is a plan to make teams who want dorsey, like the saints, and others sweat the Rams’ decision as much as possible.

A smokescreen they can do what they want? The NFL and life are not a movie with constant twist and turns.
Explain to me how Rams would move down and still get C Long? Dorsey is their guy. Keep in mind before all the over analysis, Dorsey was the number 1 guy on most draft boards.

I think it’s possible they could talk KC, or even Atlanta into moving up to #2, and still get Chris Long.

Guess no one thinks that the Rams could be targeting McFadden being as though Stephen Jackson is in the final year of his contract, huh…

I feel like the team wants Chris Long still. But we shall see. Additionally, how about this scenario? What if the Oakland Raiders covet Daren McFadden … and Chris Long is available! (If the Rams take Glen Dorsey, Long can slide a tiny bit.) This draft should be coooooooooool, and it should be a mystery for all the picks until the last second, including the first overall selection.

Watching the press conference early thursday afternoon, I realized Linehan must be a terrible poker player. When Dorsey was mentioned in a question he used every tell I’ve ever seen in succession. If they don’t pick Dorsey I’ll eat my shorts.

The Rams have done a good job of keeping the interest of other while holding their interests close. I think Dorsey is #1 on their board, but whether they go there or go for need instead will be revealed on Saturday.
BTW, firesnake, where did you watch that press conference? I would like to see it.

I agree with jmath714, it looks like a smokescreen to drum up trade offers so they can move down a little, still get a solid guy & walk away with extra picks. Pigskin knows they desparately need extra picks to shore up their secondary and get another stud RB so they won’t have Stephen Jackson holding them over a barrel come contract time.

Well, I’ve been thinking Chris Long here like everyone else and as posted above ………… but maybe the inside people know something we don’t regarding Glen Dorsey. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
