Despite speculation that dissatisfaction with a contract extension he signed in late 2005 would prompt him to hold out in 2008, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora says that he’ll report for all mandatory activities this season.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Umenyiora concedes that he considered holding out, but has decided against it.
“I’m not going to say I wasn’t thinking about it,” Umenyiora said. “I mean, come on, you see what’s going on out there [with escalating salaries], but I don’t think it’s the right thing to do. I’m happy to be here. I want to be here. I don’t want to seem disrespectful. I don’t want to do anything crazy. I’m cool.”
Umenyiora fired the agent who negotiated his $41 million extension a year ago and hired Tony Agnone, who also represents Michael Strahan. And since Agnone doesn’t get paid until Osi gets a new deal, the thinking is that Osi hired Agnone because Osi wants a new deal.
“When it’s time to do the right thing, they will do the right thing,” Umenyiora said. “Right now, I’m just going to go out and try to earn what they’ve paid me already.”

The GIants still have Plaxico Burress to deal with. He’s been strangely quiet this offseason, and coming off a career year he could do something crazy in training camp.
As far as Osi goes, thats no surprise. At least there’s one giant with talent AND class!

After a checkered early career, Plax buckled down and played like a freakin trooper. Thru hurt. if he doesnt have 3 years left on his current deal, they sure ought to work with him.

Based on the maturity of his comment.
Based on his value to the team.
I would reward him with a new contract after this season is over.
Dedication is a two-way street.

I hope that Osi doesn’t think he is as good at Allen DE from KC Chiefs.
The Vikes paid big dollars for a stud DE that led the league in sacks and missed the first two games due to suspension.

“Despite speculation that dissatisfaction with a contract extension he signed in late 2005 would prompt him to hold out in 2008, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora says that he’ll report for all mandatory activities this season.” Most of the speculation came from Mike Florio.
Mike has proven to be quite wrong about the Giants. Here are some examples:
Justin Tuck’s contract extension prior to the NFC Championship game would be a distraction. Jerry Reese now looks like a genius because of the ridiculous contract given to Tommy Kelly.
The Plaxico Burress 21-17 prediction in the Superbowl would rile up the Pats and they would win 42-10.

Osi Best not hold out because if he thinks he deserves better contract then someone needs to see if he’s smoking the trees too. Osi shouldn’t have fired his last Agent he should be thanking him.
Osi is a good Defensive End but far from a great one, he is a great compliment Defensive End, when you have Strahan on the other side. He had an ok year last season and shouldn’t have even made the Pro Bowl thank I’m lying check the stats. Yes he was 5th on the NFL sack list but if his new best friend Winston Justice didn’t give up 6 sacks he would only have 7 sacks on the year and would be tied for 31st on the sack list would would only be a sub-par year he is no Jared Allen, Patrick Kerney or even close, matter of fact he should have took Winston Justice and his family to hawii with him.

EaglesOMen,
you are discounting a game in which he had 6 sacks and nearly broke the single game NFL record for sacks? By the way Osi had 4 sacks versus Justice. He had 1 against Herremans and 1 against Jackson. He also played the beginning of the season with a hip injury that he suffered week one. He is a great DE.

Ok nybeez80 you’re right 4 sacks on a rookie right tackle (which he played in college) that the Eagles played at left tackle Winston “turn style” Justice that the Eagles left on an island all by himself with no help. Then he a sack on Herremans who had a horrible year and won’t be the starting left tackle this year, and an out of shape overweight Jammal Jackson who admitted he has to watch his weight this season. If you took away the the 4 sacks and left the 2 he still would be tied for 19th in sacks.
I’ll love my Eagles by Strahan is the man Osi is going to get better this year he might even become a great DE but I’ll tell you this he better hope Strahan doesn’t retire.
