At a time when most of the smoke signals emanating from Halas Hall suggest that the Chicago Bears will focus on improving the offensive line and/or the running game with the 14th overall pick in the draft, a league source tells us that receivers coach Darryl Drake is heading to Michigan on Friday to meet with, and possibly to work out, receiver Devin Thomas.
Of course, there’s a chance that the smokescreen is the team’s eleventh-hour interest in Thomas. If the Bears can cajole the Bills into taking him at No. 11, or dupe someone into jumping in front of them at No. 14, there’s a chance that the player whom they truly covet will slip through to them.
Regardless of the motive, the fact remains that the meeting will occur on Friday. If the Bears were hoping to send out phony vibes about their interest in Thomas, they presumably would have met with him earlier than the day before the draft.
Unless, of course, they want the phony vibes to be really convincing.

If it is a ruse, it’s fairly believable given their lack of talent at WR. It’s not like they’re bringing in someone at a position that they are set at like … um … um … let me think for a minute … um … kicker?

great just what the bears need another weapon on offense not to use!has anyone looked beyond grossman to see why they are so bad on offense? how about a coach in charge of the offense not calling plays that work more than once a game?let’s see open up the game against the giants with a no huddle march down the field and score then go back to the normal not move or score offense,yea that makes sense or how about against seattle when benson finaly breaks a long run only to taken out of the game?or in the superbowl when jones scored on 50 yd. run then is taken out of the game the next time the bears have the ball?or how about when they throw the ball to the tight end who cathes it for say 10 or more yds. then is not thrown the ball the rest of the game or maybe once more if we are lucky?doesn’t every other team in the nfl keep running plays that work untill the defense stops them?you have heard of a prevent defense, well the bears run a prevent offense!they may not have great playmakers but they don’t make use of the players they have or the plays that work. and what good is it to have a great reciever or running back if nobody blocks for them?they need line help more than anything else!

I dunno, it’s not like we couldnt use a WR too. Just covering the bases in the event Ryan doesnt slip, or the OTs get snatched up and they can’t trade down.
I really thought my miserable Bears Fan years were moving behind me. I don’t even know who the starting WRs are, except, wait for it…Devon Hester. Not sure why they don’t just start him at Corner too. Or QB….

I hear ya cygnus x-1. Word is Lovie wanted to give Ron Turner (GM Jerry Angelo’s O-Coordinator choice) his walking papers after last season’s abyssmal performance and Angelo basically told him ‘OK, but your d-coordinator buddy goes too.’, so Lovie backed off.
