An intriguing element of the Matt Walsh agreement is that Walsh has agreed to donate to charity any “cash or other property” that he obtains on exchange for disclosing information regarding his knowledge of matters relating to the Patriots.
The charity will be selected by the NFL and approved by Walsh. (May we suggest “The Human Fund”?)
But the contributions are required by Walsh only up to the amount paid by the NFL in its indemnification of Walsh.
It’s only fair. If the NFL forks over, say, $100,000 on Walsh’s behalf for his travel and legal fees and other expenses covered by the indemnification commitment (more on that later), then Walsh should be required to give up the first $100,000 that he makes from any book deal or other transaction.
Beyond the amounts paid by the NFL pursuant to the indemnity commitment, Walsh gets to keep the money, if he so chooses.

The question is can he claim the donations on his taxes? If he can, it is a great deal for him then. That means he would only pay about 2/3 of what he would have to if he had to pay the legal expenses himself since all charitable donations are tax deductable.
So even if he has to donate $100k for his indemnity, he can write off about a 1/3 of it against his taxes and get a $30k or so break on what he needs to pay to the Feds.

So, this was about being able to write a book. “I Was A Patriot Spy.”

So in this agreement Walsh doesn’t have to tell the truth and can make an unlimited amount of money after donating the cost of his legal expenses and travel to charity.
This story has been a joke and is all about Matt Walsh’s greed. There eventually will be a book so skewed by Walsh’s venomous relationship with the Patriots that it will have so many fallacies and half truths. But I guarantee you it will be #1 on the best seller’s list and all Sports “journalists” will treat it as gospel. The Patriots of course will have no recourse against this attack since the commisioner signed away all of their rights!

juxtapoz15:
The commissioner did not sign away the Patriots rights. Indemnification is not immunity. The Patriots can still sue Walsh and recover any damages they suffer (assuming they can find a cause of action). Indemnification means the NFL will pay the Patriots on Walsh’s behalf.

The Rumor Mill needs more Seinfeld references. Way more. It’s not about an average of 0.75 references per story and that’s not nearly enough.
Please, try and refer to Seinfeld a minimum of once per post and try and get in 2 or 3 jokes if you can. If you don’t do this, I might be forced to start using a site that makes references to another show. Maybe Diff’rentStrokesFootball.net or something.

If this was about greed then Walsh could’ve cashed in years ago. Pats fans will say anything to play down what could turn out to be another pimpsmack to the face of the New England Cheatriots organization. Maybe he has nothing, maybe not. Either way, we know for a fact the Pats were cheating for 6 six seasons regardless.

Ben Roethlisbunger:
Do you seriously believe that the Patriots will sue Matt Walsh if the NFL (a team that the Patriots are part of) is paying for it? That is like suing yourself and would make no sense.

Captain Fantastik, where’s your source that “We know for a fact that the Pats have cheated for 6 seasons?”

CaptainFantastik:
Are you serious? This is all about money. Walsh and his lawyers want indemnity from the Patriots so when he lies in his books and subsequent interviews and paints the patriots as the anti-christ and makes a truckload of money the Patriots will have no legal recourse against him. All Walsh will have to do is say “I didn’t intentionally lie.”
