The lingering impasse between the NFL and Matt Walsh could be ending today.
According to the Hartford Courant, a source with knowledge of the ongoing negotiations expects an agreement to be announced on Wednesday, April 23.
The deal will, at a minimum, permit Walsh to talk to the league about what he knows (or what he thinks he knows) regarding potentially improper practices of the New England Patriots during his employment with the organization. It’s unclear whether the deal will also allow Walsh to speak with Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) or the media, or to show Specter or the press any videotapes that Walsh might have in his possession.
If he has any tapes, we’re fairly certain that he doesn’t have a tape of the Rams’ walk-through practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI. We’re also fairly certain that no such tape ever existed.
One day after the football world became aware of Walsh’s name, the Boston Herald reported that the Pats videotaped the practice. We believe that Walsh was the source for the report, that the Herald and others had been trying for months to get Walsh to go on the record with that claim, and that the Herald ultimately opted to green light the story with Walsh as an unnamed source because it seemed inevitable that someone would be dropping that potential bombshell.
At the time, the Herald might have been entertaining dreams of a Pulitzer Prize. In the weeks since then, their thoughts have likely been more focused on the nightmare of a punitive damages award.

IF he doesn’t have tapes and the Herald allowed that story, they should certainly be hammered.
As an anti-Pats fan, I’m hoping he has tapes. But, they should pay if he doesn’t.

Who cares, really?
This guy is milking this thing for his 15 minutes of fame, he’s starting to become no different than Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, or any of the other talentless wonders of the world that get in the media spotlight.

Me, too. Even if he does, the Billicheat will lie and put the blame entirely on Walsh, saying that he did it without their knowledge or direction and making him the “pat”sy. Even better would be if Walsh had the tapes of the conversation recordings where he was directed to do so or where it was talked about. But he probably doesn’t have those, which is the proof he needs. I hope he has tapes of ALL the walkthroughs they taped.

I agree completely KY. I’m am anti-Pats as well (though they are damn good); however, if no tapes exist I would love to see the paper get nailed to the wall. You can have your 1st Amendment, but when you abuse it you best be prepared to pay the price.

Any agreement between Walsh and the NFL isn’t about a search for the truth, it is about burying it. I’ll bet serious money that any deal that Walsh gets from the NFL will require him to turn over all tapes/recordings and that Matt can’t talk about what he turned over. Goodell would then have all of the evidence, which will be summarily destroyed, and there is nothing left but a she-said / she-said argument.

Walsh just wants his 15 minutes of fame as someone else said. Can this story seriously just go away.
I wonder if Walsh wanted a deal because he recorded something he shouldn’t have like conversations between coach and GM. Those conversations has incriminating evidence if the acts would have been carried out.

After all this time, who really thinks that Walsh has anything at all of value.
I used to care, but am finding it increasingly harder to even spend time thinking about.

This is a lose/lose situation for everybody. Just look at some of the comments that have been made over the last 6 months. Basically, 1 of 2 things is going to happen:
-There will be no tapes, and the haters will claim that there is a cover up going on, to protect the NFL, etc.
-Tapes will come out, and all of the haters will feel vindicated
If there are tapes, they are going to end up being, the same thing that the Pats/Belichick have already admitted to. Lets say Walsh has a tape, from some random game from the early 2000’s. So what? That doesnt change anything. Belichick already said that they were taping for years. That wouldnt be new information.
The only way that this story becomes anything, is if he actually has a tape of the Rams walk through. Since there were reports that the Rams never even held a walk through, that would be difficult. But the “walk through” part of the story, is very cloudy at best, since no one has come out and confirmed that there was a walk through to begin with.
I hope Walsh and the Herald get their asses nailed to a wall if this is a bunch of BS. I hate seeing people exploit “freedom of speech” to spew a bunch of crap. And then try to silence anyone with a view different than their own
Tho I’m not a lawyer, lets say that Walsh has evidence (an audio tape or something of that nature) to suggest he was instructed to tape something, wouldnt it be inadmissable in court? Since the person being taped, didnt know they were being taped? Any lawyers with some help on that one?

If this agreement DOESNT come today(just like yesterday, when you said you heard it may come then), can you please just leave it be until something actually happens? How many updates of this story can we have when the story hasn’t changed?
I think it’s been said before, but if this deal does get done before the weekend, you better believe that Walsh doesn’t have shit, or nothing new at least. Goodell wouldn’t ruin his draft with more cheating allegations, if he thought Walsh had anything new, he’d stall for another week.

Yes Tux, they do have t-shirts. They’re call the other 31 teams (what a dork). They way you become an Anti-Patriots fan is to root for an angry, lost team like the Jets, or Panthers, or Eagles, or one of the other wanna be’s. Which one are you? Jets?

Ease up CO_5280… I’m a pats fan, I was responding to KY the “anti-pats fan”. I think the whole thing is stupid, I can’t imagine being so childish as to be an “anti-fan” of anything. Even when the Patriots were a joke of the league, pick a year circa 1996, I was never so hateful or angry at the success of the Cowboys, Redskins, or 49er’s. I don’t like the Yankees, but I don’t call myself an “anti-Yankee fan”. Hey, if you don’t like the Patriots thats fine, just try to get yourself an identity other than an “anti-patriots fan”. It’s pathetic.

Sorry Tux, Thought sarcasm directed at me. As to your point, I was never hateful or an anti-fan of the Cowboys, 49ers, etc. I was envious and jealous. I was glad that they fell from glory but not to the degree I would latch onto frivolous petty issues in hopes they would somehow be disqualified from the league. I wanted their great players/coaches. These clowns are witnessing greatness and can’t find any other way to conquer them, but to somehow get them disbarred! Pathetic is right! We’ll just enjoy the ride because it will end…but the bragging rights won’t. See ya at the SB!
