Veteran cornerback Ty Law may be looking to finish his career where he started it.
Butch Stearns of Fox 25 in Boston is reporting that the Patriots are close to a deal that would bring Law back to New England.
There had been on sporadic reports this off-season that Law, an unrestricted free agent, was looking to return to one of his former teams, either the Patriots or the Jets. But Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reported yesterday that Law was content to wait things out, possibly until training camps open, to weigh his options. If Stearns’ report is correct, Law has now determined that the Patriots are his best option.
Although the 34-year-old Law isn’t the shutdown corner he used to be, he has started all 48 games in the last three seasons, two with the Chiefs and one with the Jets. He would lend a veteran presence to the Patriots’ secondary, which lost its top cornerback, Asante Samuel, to free agency.

Ty Law, wow, that’s an upgrade.
Then again, when you have the schedule the Patriots do, you could probably get away with Jason David playing corner for the Patriots and they’d still go 16-0, lol.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign and make the move to FS, allowing Meriweather to move up to CB.

Given Law’s age and physical abilities at this point in his career I would expect him to see the bulk of his playing time at safety rather than corner. He knows the system well enough so I would think he could pull of the move with relative ease.

I’m not sure he makes up for Samuel.

Law won’t be starting at safety over Harrison or Sanders. He may play a lot of nickle.

Ty should pay the Pats to play in Foxboro.

Catch any Chiefs games last year, anyone? No? Didn’t think so. If you did you’d have seen that Law is slower than my grandma, and tackles worse too. And, yup, you guessed it, my grandma’s dead. Law allowed more than one touchdown simply by falling down like an elderly man on black ice. If you want a veteran presence, give Darrell Green a ring. I guarantee he has more left in the tank.
