Amid reports that the Saints have talked to the Rams about a trade up to No. 2 and the Falcons about a move to No. 3, G.M. Mickey Loomis admitted on Tuesday that the team has talked to multiple other franchises regarding such a deal.
“We’ve talked to a number of teams in front of us about the possibility of moving forward,” Loomis said. “It’s all preliminary discussion — you know, nothing concrete. We’ve just expressed a desire to talk about it with a number of teams.”
The Saints are believed to be targeting LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.
So why would Loomis go public with this? It might be that the team wants to make it clear that they’re in the market to move, so that maybe the calls will start coming in to them.
The key question for any team that might move down is whether the team thinks that a coveted player will be on the board at No. 10, which is the Saints’ current first-round slot. The Saints will also have to present a sufficient package of additional picks and/or players to make it happen.

It may be a smart move since the phone may not be ringing yet.

Keep something in mind here … I’d consider Albert on the RAW side since his focus before college was more on Basketball than football.
I’d consider him a convert similar to some of the TE’s that are now playing OT … Jason Peters (Bills) for example.
Everything I’ve read suggests Florio has the right “range” … and varying opinions are because his ceiling is far from set! Sounds as though he’s the consensus top OG … add the Basketball athleticism and you’ve got a potent wild card.
My hunch is that he doesn’t get picked in the top 8 and that someone will trade-up into the 9-11 range to outdo a Denver or Carolina to land him.

Every team talks to every team above them about what it takes to move up, regardless of whether they intend to move or not. This is called diligence.

“With the 4th overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Oakland Raiders select Chris Long DE, Virginia Cavaliers.”
Oh what great day that would be!

a good trading partner for the saints would be the raiders because they also need a cornerback and the raiders are looking to trade fabian washington and/or stanford routt. both of whom are young and have upside. even if dorsey is off the board at #4, the saints are said to be intersted in sedrick ellis as well

The Saints aren’t going to trade into the top 5. It’s called blowing smoke. Do you really think GM’s are going to spill the beans about their true intentions the week leading up to the draft? I guess the Dolphins are still going to draft a defensive player with the first pick to be a “pillar of their defense” like their GM said too.

You never know what anyone is really up to this time of year. This might actually be a ploy to get Lito Sheppard/Jeremy Shockey. Any package the Saints would have that would lead to them moving up into the top 5 would have to include a second round pick that surely either the Giants or Eagles would want for the players the Saints have been linked to. This could just be a ploy to get those teams off the fence before the Saints move on, or you know move out, onto another trade package.

The Saints need to come out of this thing with Lito. Shockey would be nice, but Shepard is a better fit and would be perfect with McKenzie in man coverage. The Saints offense is off the charts, but need a solid RB more than a TE. Brees and Shockey would be like Brees and Gates, except grittier!
