As the draft approaches, some league insiders firmly believe that the Philadelphia Eagles will look to make one or more splashes once the picks begin to fly.
The Eagles have been trying to get a veteran receiver who’ll draw consistent double coverage, but they have been unsuccessful. The latest presumed target is Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin, but the Cardinals have said that they won’t trade him.
There’s also a belief that the Eagles will try to move up from their current perch at No. 19 in round one.
Either transaction could be fueled by the inclusion of cornerback Lito Sheppard, whose fate was sealed when Asante Samuel was signed.

How tired do you think Lito is of hearing his name CONSTANTLY being shopped around???

How long have we been hearing about the Eagles making a big splash for? First Larry Fitzgerald, then Randy Moss, then Roy Williams, then Chad Johnson, then Jared Allen, have they gotten any of them?

Since Lito was the one who wanted to be traded, probably not very much.

how tired do you think the Eagles front office is of hearing Lito say he wants to be traded ‘if he’s not a starter’ and how he wants a new contract with 3 years left on his deal even though he’s missed 14 games in the last two years due to injury?
give a player one undeserved, fan-based pro bowl nomination and it spells disaster for your team.

We’ve actually been hearing about the Eagles making a splash earlier than the timeline of names you mention. Their rumored interest in the free agency period began prior to the start of free agency.
Then they signed the biggest prize in the free agent market.
So, your premise is kind of false.

I think Lito knew this was coming the minute Asante Samuel signed. I would be shocked if he’s not moved by the end of the upcoming weekend.

Their biggest and best splash would be to dump their current QB and move forward with Kolb.

This doesn’t make sense. You don’t think any receivers in the draft have a round 1 grade, yet you think the Eagles will try to move UP from #19 to get one?
Isn’t it more likely that would do the opposite by, for example, trying to trade their 1st round pick + Lito Sheppard to a team that has an unhappy stud receiver and could use a Cornerback. I’m sure there is a team like that around somewhere

Aaah, another idiotic comment to “dump their current QB”. Maybe the Eagles could trade Lito for Matt Walsh, that way they could cheat their way to 3 championships like some other team. McNabb had one playmaking WR his whole career and what happened that year he had him? Moron! As far

First of all, if you want to compete this year you need McNabb. When healthy, he’s still the best around. Look how he played at the end of last year.
I would like a WR to come from Sheppard, but I’ll settle for a high pick to get a Offensive Tackle.
I don’t know whos out there, but if we trade Sheppard we’ll need a new CB in the draft. Look for a 3rd-4th round pick on a CB who can also return punts and kicks. Thats my guess, at least.

Asante Samuel is overrated, coming from a Pats fan who’s been hoping the Pats don’t sign him to a long-term deal. I’ve seen Asante give up many passes at the worst times, and when he actually does make a deflection he pumps his chest in glory, why does he do this? Because that only happens once a game.

If its a WR they cover, trading up from #19 in this draft to snag one is probably not the way to go. It doesnt seem like theres a WR in this draft thats worth going at #19, much less higher.

doubtful.
they’re using lito to move up for a tackle. they can’t get up high enough for it to be some huge splash. they’ll move up and grab a tackle. big deal, teams move up all the time and it’s not some jaw-dropper.
they have nothing else to move to make some big splash. they would never give up next year’s no.1, so the only thing left is to move mcnabb and that’s unlikely.
i think the source for this is spadaro.
or maybe mike quick is at it again.

I agree FlorioPhillyFan, some people here clearly don’t know much about football. Give a healthy McNabb a decent WR and he is, without question, one of the best in football.
While I’m sick of Reid taking lineman every draft, I do agree with you, this is the year they could justify it with both of our current OTs in the last year of their contracts. But with that said, they still need to give McNabb help now and you know full well a rookie wideout won’t be all that productive in this system.

as an eagles fan, i find it hard to fathom (well, actually knowing our fans, not so much) why some idiot eagles fans are calling for McNabb and Reid to get lost? Hello. Do you not like winning football games? Would you rather not be in contention for anything other than a top-ten pick? With the exception of last year, and 2005, the Eagles have been in serious contention every year. Sure a ring would be nice, but what’s the alternative to McNabb and Reid? Without Reid and/or McNabb, we wouldn’t have had a sniff. for the most part, i love our fans, but sometimes these booger eaters are just too much. Either start paying attention or stop being an a**hole philly fan complaining just for the sake of living up to your reputation.

Amen! The Donavan McNabb project should be over by now. Andy and Donavan will never win a Superbowl together. 1) He can’t stay healthy. 2) He’s not, nor will he ever be a WCO QB. This system plays to his weaknesses, not his strengths. He’s better suited for a downfield passing attack offense. He gets injured this year and his trade value PLUMMETS. If the Eagles take a WR in round one, it’s bc they moved back into the first round after drafting a lineman with the first pick. 2 days til the draft!!!

Ideally, they trade Lito for the Rams 2nd rounder and use their own #2 to move up in the first.

Asante Samuel is overrated? Well duh. I find it hard to believe that anyone is worth more than 9 million dollars a year.
Eagles want to move up and the Falcons are down a starting cornerback. If Dorsey goes at two, well… it just makes sense.

I’m getting very pessimistic about them trading for a WR. Most likely, they trade Lito for the Rams 2nd round pick and use their own #2 to move up in the first. OT then one of the safetys. For a WR, they’ll need to get lucky in the 3rd or later. sigh.

I love all this draft speculation about the eagles that comes out every day. no one know what they are going to do except the front office. You must be crazy to thing the eagles are better off without mcnabb. i am so sick of hearring how we need to get rid of him, for who kolb? it is just these sucky teams with crappy qb’s which is 70% of the nfl who wish they had a mcnabb. everytime a eagles coach goes to a new team…………well they are making a trade for mcnabb. so a couple of years ago when we led the league in plays over 20 years, i guess that is not downfield enough, give me a break. i think we should keep lito , make him the return guy cause our return game is so great now.

unfortunatley the reid/mcbabb mindless fembot kids have now found the pft message board. just when it looked pretty good.
if you remember, before mcnabb tore his knee up, the eagles were 5-5 in a supposed contending year, and had lost 4 out of 5.
another qb comes in to run the offense and wins 5 out of the next 6 suddenly and get the team to the playoffs and a playoff win.
the moral of the story, there is actually life after and instead of mcnabb possible. i know you find it impossible. but only those of us with our eyes open understand that.
if you want him as the starting qb forever that’s fine. if you think he’s the best answer, fine. but you have to grow up and stop this crap and this idiocy of insisting people are stupid if they understand, and have actually seen, there are other answers that are not automatic horrible disasters.
and since the qb of the future is here anyway, adding two draft picks for the guy the clock here is almost up for is not, sorry to inform you, idiocy.

Anyone who thinks the Eagles are better off moving forward with Kolb over McNabb is out of their mind and knows nothing about football. Great idea to bring Kolb into an offense that has no big scoring threat other than B-West. Taking Kolb out also guarantees that you waste Westbrook in his prime. It will take him too long to learn the offense (and who knows how that will go). Get real with yourselves.
