The Green Bay Packers are exploring the possibility of signing free agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper, the Green Bay Press-Gazette is reporting.
Culpepper reportedly arrived in Green Bay Tuesday and is visiting the Packers today. The Packers are considering signing Culpepper as a backup to Aaron Rodgers, who became the starting quarterback when Brett Favre retired.
Last season Culpepper played in seven games for the Oakland Raiders, starting six, and completed 58.1 percent of his passes for 1,331 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions.
Culpepper had one of the best passing seasons in NFL history in 2004, but as a result of injuries and ineffectiveness since then, he has played just 18 games for three teams.

Let’s go for it. He’s the best option we have at this point w/o having to trade a second or third rounder for Pennington or Losman.

Culpepper continues his streak with more teams. If he’d sign for the veteran minimum I guess this is a good thing. But they could still have Favre if they’d just pick up the phone…

Hahaha Culpepper is being tossed around like an old roast beef sangwich. He needs to hang it up and hang out with McNair.

Quite frankly I would rather have Craig Nall on this team. He is a known commodity to the Packers and I think he would be more effective and less injury prone than Culpepper.

I always wanted to see Daunte do well with the Vikes but he clearly needed a simplified offense to be effective. Putting him in a flavor of West Coast would not be a good fit for him. He has trouble finding an open receiver if it’s not his primary target.

Pep had ONE good game last season, against the Fins, where he ran for 3 and passed for 2 TDs. Besides that, apparently everyone on the team made fun of him for being a cocky guy and he even tried to race Fabian Washington and other people who he outweighs by 20000 lbs

way better than wasting a higher draft pick or trading for the “available” guys. the pack have nobody back there to back rodgers up, so a warm body is an improvement at this point. i’ve never liked daunte but they’re gonna need some one i guess :-/ look for teddy to draft a qb in the 4th round or so too.
and no, this has nothing to do with their comfort level w/ rodgers. that’s absurd. any time would be uncomfortable with only 1 quarterback, regardless of who that guy is.

Typical Queen’s fans already jumping to conclusions. Newsflash!!! T-Joke is still the Vikings QB at the helm. Your team can overpay for players like Jerod Allen and make a #2(at best) WR, the 4th highest paid in football when he’s never even had 1000yds receiving, but you still have a TERRIBLE quarterback.
They are just checking him out to see if he is healthy enough to be a BACKUP QB. Yahmpy, I’m assuming that you believe that the Colts and the Patriots should not have a backup QB on the roster?

I think this is a good call for the Packers, why not sign a washed up quarterback with little accuracy and knee problems to a contract. Once Aaron “Glass Joe” Rodgers goes down (which won’t be long) they can rely on this joke to lead them to the playoffs.
Go Giants!

Interesting.
Enlighten me, what makes Rodgers light years ahead of Tarvaris? The fact that he had 1 decent game as a backup? Or that he was a first round pick? or hey maybe it’s because he learned under the very poor mechanics of Fav-ra.
I think the only newsflash here is, Rodgers is still unproven, the fact that there is already an abundance of Rodgers crotch sniffing is laughable. The guy isn’t the second coming of El-Rod Fav-ra, so keep your hillbilly loving panties on.
Fact of the matter is, Jackson is young and is still raw at the position. I’m not making him out to be the next Montana, but he still has a lot of room to grow, and I think he deserves the benefit of doubt before he’s deemed a failure, or at any rate that he “sucks”.

Oh, simple Vikings fan. Not only is Rogers a better option than T-Jack, CULPEPPER is a better option than that piece of (on any other team) camp meat.
I love how The 69er spoke today of winning “world championships” in Minnesota. Wilf obviously didn’t give him the tour of the trophy…closet.

If he does in fact get a shot (that’s a BIG “if”), I would love to see him play against the Vikings.
Can you imagine hearing P.A.,”Culpepper under center, takes the snap, drops, and here comes Jared Allen around the corner, and he knocks the ball loose from Daunte’s child size hands. VIKINGS RECOVER!”

He’s a great back up. Anyone who laughs at the idea of havng an experienced QB as a backup is ignorant. Sure he’s injury prone but thats why he’s going to be a back-up.

I can’t wait to see it. Culpepper back to pass … he sees Koren Robinson … wait, he picked by Darren Sharper … to set up a FG by Ryan Longwell (I couldn’t figure out a way to get Robert Ferguson into that scenerio).
If only the Packers could have landed Randy Moss.

Rodgers is “light years” ahead of T-Jac because the glimpse that we saw of Rodgers last year was very positive and the performance of T-Jac last year, despite having the biggest running threat in football and constant 8-man fronts, was pathetic. Funny hearing viking fans hate on our potential back-up when their starter BLOWS!! I’d rather have Nall as our starter than t-jac.
