Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the proposal governing hair length was a major topic of conversation when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell met Tuesday with the NFL’s players’ advisory council.
Last month NFL owners tabled a proposal introduced by the Kansas City Chiefs that would prevent players from wearing hair long enough to cover the names on the backs of their jerseys. The owners could take the issue up again at their May meeting.
Goodell stressed in his meeting with the players that no one would be forced to cut his hair, but that if the proposal is adopted, players would be told to tuck their hair into their helmets during games. Players are apparently concerned that their helmets would no longer fit properly if they had to stuff long hair into them, and Goodell said he would seek the opinion of Riddell, the NFL’s helmet provider.
Per Mortensen, it was determined that 62 players in the league had long enough hair that they would be affected by the rule.
The players’ advisory council consists of the Titans’ Kevin Mawae, Kyle Vandenbosch and David Thornton; the Saints’ Drew Brees; the Jets’ Brandon Moore and Tony Richardson; the Lions’ Mike Furrey; the Bears’ Hunter Hillenmeyer; the Giants’ Shaun O’Hara and the Chiefs’ John McGraw.

It’s a waste of energy to use negotiating capital on this idea.
Encourage tackling by the hair. After enough guys get scalp replacement surgery we’ll see them all with crew cuts.

He lit up the Pack for a few years and has some experience in the NFC north. Probably the best/cheapest way to go to get a veteran back up and can also avoid TT having to use a two day pick on a QB as AR’s future (or sooner) back up.
Next up for a visit if not already in the air is Alexander.

I’m all for free liberties. But for gods sake, Goodell is going to make concessions by talking to Rydell about modifications to their helmets so that they can keep their hair. Unbelievable. It is a privilege to play football. If the league that allows you to play football and makes you a millionaire asks that you cut your hair, cut your damn hair.

Cut the hair already, I never liked it. This is a league of Men and not pansies. Yes I agree enforce tackling by the hair and it will all come off. Some men in the UFC when it first started came in with long hair and once they were made Biotch or other fighters saw that men were being made Biotches by their hair everyone began cutting their hair. Enforece the rule that would be great. In addition none of it is real hair it is all extensions. What bunch of pansies.

If you cut your hair because someone else told/wants you to, you’re a pansy.
If you grow long hair thinking it will make you cool, then cut it off because others made you feel pansy about it.. you’re a pansy, hair or no hair.
Also, just because someone pays you money doesn’t mean you should be a nonthinking conformist “bitch” because that would make you a pansy.
You guys must have shrunken brains or something. Get over your own self hate, it’s obvious to anyone reading your comments you’re not very smart.

WWJD? So now Goodell could create the same controversy Dana “F jesus” Jacobson faced?
And the whole tuck (the hair) rule, I’m reminded of some Cincinnati Bengals DT with a very long man mane that I doubt he could fit in his helmet. And what if Two Ton Toniu Fonoti gets back in the league, he can’t fit his long hair and 200 lb head in the same helmet?

in the real world one unfortunately has to do some things to get and keep a job, or a promotion.
one can be an unemployed or low-paid “so-called real man” or an employed and sometimes well-paid “so-called nonthinking conformist bitch”.
if one deals with the public directly (service) there are usually stringent rules. like it or not, a lot of people are offended by long or unkempt hair. it’s a real world thing, and i dont expect that many posters here to get it.
lots of sports teams have dress codes. look around. the requirements are likely in player contracts already.
