Holy crap.
The Vikings, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, surrendered their first-round pick in the 2008 draft and both third-round selections for Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen.
The Chiefs will now add the No. 17, No. 73, and No. 82 overall selections to the No. 5, No. 35, and No. 66 picks, giving them six selections among the first 100 picks.

Let me know if any of those three picks lead the NFL in sacks.

Gee Whillickers! Guess the Vikes have so much depth that an influx of young talent would be wasted….*snicker*…Sooooooo bend an elbow every time Allen does?

The KSHB story also has it as a 6-year, $55 million contract with $25 mil in guarantees for Allen.

“Build through the draft” they said. “Picks are like gold” they said. Yes, Jarred Allen is amazing to have, but it feels like the Vikings sold their soul for this one. That’s 3 possible good players. One could almost ague it would have been better to sign him to an offer sheet after the draft.

I take my comment about the Chiefs sucking more back… although I can count on Herm Edwards to mess everything up.
Also: Have fun changing that draft chart Flori-ohhhh

Wow. It’s still worth it, but… wow. That’s a lot to give up, especially for a team that is real thin and/or long in the tooth at a couple of positions (think DT, S, OL all the way across… oh, and there’s that whole quarterback thing).
But…. [cringes] …. it’s worth it.

For a guy with an alcohol history… In Minnesota nonetheless… It is practically Wisconsin Jr. as far as beer taps go.
That is faith. He is a great talent, but that is certainly a gamble. I wouldn’t have given up that much, I’d rather pay modest salaries for those three players and take my chances of those three players helping the team more than 1 huge cap eating DE.

Funny, that’s actually the same trade I did in Madden 08 in Franchise Mode, except I traded Jared Allen to the Bengals to make the All-Turd team.

Holy Freakin’ Godâ„¢ that’s a lot of compensation!
Thank you Bruce Allen for not mortgaging our entire draft for one player. I’d have liked Allen to be a Buc, but not for that much!

We still have 6 picks that is 1 more then Tampa.
We have wasted so many picks over the years just trying to find a guy like this.
Not to mention that leading the NFL in sacks is the reason the Giants are Superbowl Champions.

Smart to get three picks this year for a guy who doesn’t want to be there. He’s another arrest waiting to happen.
As for the Vikes, looks like they are going all in this year spending big $$$ on Berrian and Williams, and giving huge coin to Allen. All these guys have huge question marks about them in one way, shape or form.
Last thing, they still have Tavaris Jackson at QB. I still don’t see the playoffs for that team.

Worth it. And we didn’t have to give up any picks from future years. Mind you that we would have spent one of those three draft picks (mostly likely the first round one), on a DE, so we traded 2 third round picks for a better first round pick.
So worth it.

I still say, well worth it.
With the No. 17 pick in this years draft the Vikings were talking about drafting a DE. You never know, it could end up to be a Julius Peppers or a Demitrius Underwood (that was one of the franchises finest moments.)
The bottom line, the Vikings are getting a guy who has proven his worth over the last couple of seasons.
Finally, a big name comes to Minnesota instead of one leaving Minnesota (i.e. Johan Santana, Torii Hunter, Kevin Garnett, David Ortiz, the list goes on and on.)

What, Hershel Walker wasn’t available? Talk about history repeating itself.
Jared Allen? Are you kidding me? The guy is a great player and Minnesota will have one hell of a defensive line, but that is ridiculous. Also, isn’t he one screw up away from a 1 year suspension?
The only thing funnier than Minnesota crippling itself with it’s lack of draft picks and over inflated contracts will be the vastly overrated Herm Edwards and Carl Peterson squandering all of their picks.

Anyone surprised?..it’s in the Viking’s blood to give up multiple picks for one player. Just ask Herschel.
If you ask me…The Vikings just blowed 3 solid picks.
