First, the reliability of the $21 million report has to be questioned. The next such scoop about the Redskins that the Post gets will be its first in several years. Snyder has effectively shut them off due to a feud over various matters.

Second, even if it is accurate it doesn't mean that there was any tampering. If the team wanted to do a trade and sign there had to be internal discussions about what kind of deal they could afford. If word of that leaks out there is no violation of the rules.

I hope this is a bunch of nothing. Chad isn't even worth two first rounders, not with his me-first personality.

BUT -- if my Redskins actually had numbers worked out with Chad w/o the Bengal's permission... the organization, Cerrato and Snyder should be hit hard.

Then Rosenhaus should be banned.

I'm not smart enough to follow all the alleged tampering nonsense ... I'm just still wondering why the heck the Bengals would potentially refuse two first-rounders for a player who no longer wants to be on their team.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, who initially denied the team had received offers for Johnson during a Tuesday news conference, confirmed to ESPN that Cincinnati turned down Washington's offer of two picks.

I guess Mortimer is not as much of a bumbling @ss clown everyone on this site thinks he is....

Just a question why aren't people killing that whiny, overrated LB in Chicago for complaining about not getting paid enough? He's like Ocho, a whiny b%tch who wants more money...guess Florio's on his payroll...

You have to read between the lines... He recieved no phone call.... That could mean that they got an email... And who would even try to contact them the way the organization is behaving... At this point though I would think they atleast would be listening to offers... In the face of what chad will do.. He will not retire... He will go.. He will be there everyday infact.. Making their lives a living hell.. Just wait until one of the coaches takes a swing at him........................................................

First of all, Washington offered a first round pick and a third rounder that would most likely turn into an additional first rounder for one Chad Johnson. And, I think the Cincinnati Bengals should have accepted the offer! Well, maybe. Chad's probably better than a draft pick, but that's a lot to turn down given the situation.

How much tampering does it take to figure out that if he can get out of Bungleville he will get a new contract along with a chance to win.

Who else does he have to punch in the face. how many 3rd down passes does he have to drop?

Free Ocho Stinko.

All jokes aside, and as a Raven fan who was sick of Ocho's mouth and him torching C-Mack, Veteran players should have a way to buy his freedom.

Even if he has to sit out an entire year, he should be able get out of a terrible town and team if the situation changes after he signs an extension. The teams do it all the time, and this is the only sport or buis where that is legal.

The draft is bad enough, but one sided contracts where you have to play in one city or not at all is a basic freedom being trampled.

Who would go for that without at least complaining about it?

I don't want to hear the argument that he signed a contract he should not have. I also don't buy that it is all about Larry Fitzgerald money. There obviously was a clear rift between player and HC, and he no longer wants to be a Bungle.

Both sides have made intentions well known, now we the fans and supporters of the NFL should take a look at what is a fair solution to an obvious problem. There are clearly irreconsilable differences, and even in the most ugly divorces either party can opt out for a price. How can Chad be expected to go back and be a BUngle again after all of this?

This is the type of issue the Commish and Don upshaw should be working on not keeping idiots out of strip clubs or GMs from discussing hypotheticals with agants.

Mortenson, Pastabelly, Jeremy Green, Jaws, Hodge and the rest of them are all hacks. We all know that John "The Cryptkeeper" Clayton rules the roost at ESPN. Cross him and you'll find yourself with the same fate that felled Salisbury.

At some point, Cincy really has to frame this in the best interest on the team, and not so much about sticking to your guns. An offer of a #1 pick plus a conditional #1 pick for a player that has vowed not to play for you is a great deal. If that offer is indeed on the table, pull the trigger, man.

The tampering evidenced here so so blatant and destructive (to the Bengals and their relationship with Johnson) that they may able to get the Redskins' first round pick as compensation--without even giving up Chad. The Redskins better start deleting their emails and shredding memos before Goddell and his posse come in for a raid.

Eventually Rosenhaus is going to get blackballed by the league and owners for the circuses he runs with/for his clients. It's one thing to cause destractions, it's another to cost a team picks. He already cost the 49ers a fifth and a swap of thirds. The penalty here could be enormous for the Redskins. How long will owners/GMs allow themselves to be manipulated by Rosenhaus when the costs are so high?

The tampering evidenced here so so blatant and destructive (to the Bengals and their relationship with Johnson) that they may able to get the Redskins’ first round pick as compensation–without even giving up Chad. The Redskins better start deleting their emails and shredding memos before Goddell and his posse come in for a raid.

Eventually Rosenhaus is going to get blackballed by the league and owners for the circuses he runs with/for his clients. It’s one thing to cause destractions, it’s another to cost a team picks. He already cost the 49ers a fifth and a swap of thirds. The penalty here could be enormous for the Redskins. How long will owners/GMs allow themselves to be manipulated by Rosenhaus when the costs are so high?

So what does tampering involve? If the Redskins say they want to trade out of their pick, they call all of the teams and ask if they are interested. So let's say they called the Bengals a couple of weeks ago and asked if they were interested in trading for the 21st pick. The Bengals say "sure...what are you offering." The Skins deliberate and come back and say..."we will give the first pick this year and 3rd round conditional next year, and we will take Chad Johnson." The Bengals mull this over and decide not to do it. Is that condsidered tampering or is exploring trades for draft picks like everyone else is doing?

Is it any wonder that the name "Drew Rosenhaus" be associated with any thing marginal, or even wrong. The guy is a dirt bag. The 'Skins need to get called on the mat for this one. Ocho Stinko neesd to man up and honor his contract.

It sounds like Mort reported this without any solid verification (I thought you were the rumor monger Florio,) also it seems someone just picked 21 because everything with the Redskins has to involve the number 21. Stories like this seem about as reliable as the reports the Bush administration leaked to the press, and then the press used the officials to confirm the information. Mort is Novak!

I seem to recall someone referring to April as "Lying Month", or something similar. What's to say we can believe any of this?

"The Washington Post knows that the team is ready to pay Johnson $21 million in guaranteed money."

You're right Florio, this is big-time. Do the Bengals have to file tampering charges or can the League get involved without the filing?

I wonder if Chris Mortensen's batting average is above or below the Mendoza line. Pasquarelli may actually outhit him.

Mortenson is also the guy who said during the season that the Bengals wanted to trade Chad, and pretty much started this entire soap opera.
