Kudos to all of you who support the BENGALS taking a stand for fans supporting teams throughout the NFL. As for the rest of you, I guess you’ve become numb to the insanity that is ruining the NFL and don’t care!? Are you going take it lightly when it happens to the team you support next?

You should be supportive and thankful that the Bengal’s team/ownership is willing to say “enough is enough,” and stand up for principal, and the future success of the NFL, even at the risk of their immediate success. I guess they plan on being around for more than this season and don’t want the team’s future success left in the hand of an idiot like CJ, who is nothing more than Drew’s puppet. Maybe you can be spared going through what Bengal’s fan are going through with Chad. If you feel sorry for Chad, you’ve lost all perspective on the real world and just how fortunate these pro athletes are, just like Chad has.

To the argument that Chad should be able to quit the Bengals if the Bengals can cut Chad, I’d argue that those details were all part of the contract Chad agreed to, so Chad’s rights and the Bengal’s rights were established a long time ago. In my opinion, that little drawback is nicely offset by the multi-millions he received in upfront, bonus money. I’ve been a Bengal’s fan since the beginning over 40 years ago, and am fed up with the gradual erosion of the game I love and have enjoyed so much since I was a young child. Don’t think I’m not aware of the negative influence it may have over the Bengal’s chances of success this coming season. I just don't want this to become a yearly event after players have spent their signing bonuses and want another one.

Ray only metaporacly murders Bungle blockers and backs. The list of Bungles in jail or under investagation is too long to talk about.

Henry was the only mismatch. The Bungles have always struggled to get points vs Baltimore, but for some reason Billick would call the 3 step fumble play 6 times a game and we still almost won. Have fun keeping Carson healthy with that line and No Ocho drawing doble coverage. TJ is going to get a little more of that busted lip Chad ususally walks away with.

Henry was the only weapon against the Ravens? LOL. Ever hear of TJ Houshmandzadeh?

The loss of Madieu Williams? Yawn.

And Levi, Willie, Rudi, TJ, Chad, Carson, Geathers, etc. aren't anywhere near a jail entrance.

You have a defense that can't stop Carson Palmer, and an offense that, excuse my laughter, has Boller as the QB.

Your defensive leader is a murderer.

Yeah, you have a lot of room to talk.

OK Yakkety Smakkety Bungle Man. They spent some money and still stink so bad the best WR refuses to lose with them any more.

I know they beat the Ravens twice last year thanks to 12 unforced fumbles. For that you get to watch Ozzie pick the DT you need.
Billick and his playbook are out, along with Henry, the real difference maker in the matchups, the loss of williams at FS, and the Ocho saga are quickly bringing the Bungles back down to Clown Town. But at least the Clowns are staying out of jail and mostly out of the news this offseason.

Perhaps the Bungles should stop spending so much money on players about to be on prison teams just because they look good in orange, and hire some scouts and a GM with a clue.

It's funny, I read some earlier posts from "packedwith KY" AND "DanSnyder" and they act as if they've never heard of a receiver going for less that a first round pick. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Eagles get Terrell Owens for a 6th and a 3rd string DT? and didn't the cheaters from N.E. get Moss for a 4th. Both of these guys could easily be labeled as cancers but are they considered any more of a cancer than the way Chad is being right now? Right, THOUGHT SO...Idiots

So, the redskins would give up a #1 and a #1,#2,or #3 next year for what, about 8TD's? And that was with Carson Palmer throwing the ball, not Jason Campbell. Smart! Go ahead, skins. Does Daniel Snyder really hate draft day that much that he never wants to be a part of it.

Mike Brown is a stupid, stubborn & weak old man. Yeah he thinks he's taking a stand but at what price? 2 1st round picks for an overrated loudmouth is a great deal. Never underestimate this fossil's ability to set his franchise back. This is why they'll always be the Bungholes.

The Bungles deserve nothing for letting Ocho go. Salary cap hit? Are you kidding me? Do they ever even approach going over the cap?"

Hey douchebag, they were over the cap last year. This year we're already to within $4M of the cap after our rookie pool.

And in 2006 we spent to within 1% of the cap. The last time we were considerably below the cap was 2005... the year we made the playoffs.

Get informed before you make retarded uninformed comments.

The thing a lot of fans forget about the "Contract" Chad signed, is that is not actually a contract because the Bungles can break it anytime they want.

He can not play for another team unless they release him from it, he can not even buy his way out of Cincy. He can run his mouth though, and if that is all he an do other than show up and drop every pass they throw his way. The NFL may have all the leverage, but the top players have been able to get out of town by holding out, running thier mouth and waiting.

Keyshawn got another good contract and so did T.O.. Go ahead Bungles, send him a message, see what that tactic gets you.

First off... The Redskins don't have the cap room to sign Chad and a draft class in which they have more than 7 picks for the first time in years. Second... Good for the Bengals for not making this move. Rule #1 in sales negotiation is, never throw out the first number. By refusing this deal, they set the benchmark for all future offers. I still think they'll inevitably part ways with Chad, but they shouldn't push it if they want to get maximum value in return.

I think what Marvin is doing is awesome, but if I were a Bengal fan I'd be real upset. When you can get a first rounder and a second or possibly another first rounder to get a cancer off your team, I think the price of proving your very legitamte point is way too high.

As Far as I have heard, this isn't exactly the year for wide receivers in the NFL draft. Is there really much that will help them RIGHT NOW? They would NEED receivers if they drop Johnson since henry decided to flush his career down the toilet. Palmer and Housh aren't necessarily getting any younger and they won't necessarily stay with the team forever. The bengals have to have a deal to help them win right now.

Also, accepting the offer of the first rounder from this year and a conditional first rounder next year might sound good at frist, but what happens if it is based on the condition that Johnson gets 100 receptions and so many touchdowns and, as a result, towards the end of the year, use him merely as a decoy to draw off defenders? While he was useful to the 'skins, it doesn't necessarily mean next year's pick will be theirs.

Then again, I am sitting in a cubicle, reading a site about profootball and putting off real work. The NFL hasn't been knocking on my door because I draft decent Fantasy teams (thanks rotoworld). You probably all know better than me.

Wow...the Bengals refused a first, and potentially another first (that this is a brand new offense without proper personnel, it's probably only a high 2nd), for a player that that doesnt want to be there, repeatedly causes problems in the locker room, and is 30 years old (approaching downside of career)??! Maybe they need to start substance abuse testing in Cincy's front office. Maybe they're holding out for both of Dallas' 1st rounders, lol.

By the way...I love the hard line the Bengals are taking with this guy. Marvin is not playing: "I've stated our case with Chad," Lewis said. "He has a contract through 2011. He's stated without an opportunity to go to a different team and a new contract, he wasn't going to play. I think he's a man of his word and says he's not going to play, so don't play."

I'll translate.....keep running your mouth or you might be better to SHUT THE F$$$ UP!!

Chad is being a little selfish girl, in Cincinnati he is treated like a King and not to mention he is the 2nd highest payed WR in the NFL. Washingtons offer was the real deal and Cincinnati should have shipped that head case to the Redskins, but thanks to Mike Brown we are going to have to deal with another flippen WR whining on Espn, Abc, and all during the draft. I don't how #1 WR became the most important person in all of sports but come on.

I don't get this. The Bengals struggled w/out Henry last year, and now fans want them to get rid of Johnson? Why? Because he's complaining? Who do they expect Palmer to throw it too? Especially when this is a very weak crop of WR's in the draft? I'm not a Cincy fan, but how does getting rid of one of your top 3(others can debate where he ranks) players for 2 unproven, probably overpaid draft picks help?
I love the draft as much as anyone, so the idea of getting lots of picks is fun and exciting, especially this week. The key to putting a good team on the field it made up of 3 parts; Talent, Good Coaching, and not overpaying players. It seems like the Bengals are trying to keep a talented player from being an overpaid player in his 30's.

One last note on Johnson that I'll get off my chest while I'm at it. I can't stand it when he(and other players) brag that they are good team players because they don't get "arrested and beat up women" and so on. That doesn't make you special, it makes you normal part of society! You're not supposed to do those things! It doesn't give you the right to act like a complete ass at your place of employment. Imagine if normal people tried this? "Boss, I know I've been a coplete jerk around the office, annoying people, bad mouthing management, not listening to my bosses requests to quiet down, but hey, I do good work, and I've never been arrested, beaten a woman, or driven drunk."

Does that make senst?

He is not going anywhere no matter what the offer. The Bengals won't take the cap hit that would go with losing him. He has no choice but to play for the Bengals if he wants to get his check.

What ever happened to living up to your word. In this case when you sign a contract in good faith, shouldn't you expect to see that contract out. Otherwise why sugn anything at all. I say the Bengals are trying to set a precedent, much like the Bucs did a few years back with Meshawn. Once a player of Chad's abilities is kept in line then perhaps agents, such as Rosenhaus, will work harder on future client contracts to ensure that escalators are in place so renogiating doesn't arise every two years. Conversely if a player has a bad year shouldn't the revers hold true.

I love the idea that one of these premium WRs is gonna put a team over the top.
Roy Williams, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Chad Johnson have really worked wonders for their current teams.
And we thought RBs were "overvalued."

It's really hard to figure out what the Bengals are trying to accomplish here. Showing Chad he's 'not the boss of me' might provide some emotional satisfaction, but when it becomes counterproductive to the interests of the team, I think it's time to move on.

Mike Brown takes a lot of criticism for the way he runs the Bengals and much of it is deserved. But, the reality is he doesn't have the deep pockets that some other owners possess. He doesn't have other income streams that can offset losses in football. No doubt he is a rich man, but he can't afford to make decision that would put the team consistently in the red. Unfortunately, I think the NFL may not have a place for this sort of ownership for much longer.

Wow all the Mike Brown hate. There are a lot of misinformed readers of this site, I'm surprised. Probably doesn't help that the writer on this site spreads misinformation.

Chad is working under his third contract with the Bengals. Carson Palmer is the second highest paid player in the NFL. Rudi Johnson is paid well. Levi Jones just signed a huge contract a couple of years ago. Willie Anderson is making a ton of money from Mike Brown. Houshmandzadeh will more than likely sign a new deal.

If a player is worth it, Mike Brown will gladly shell out some cash. If you actually look at factual information, you will see that Mike Brown is among the top 10 in player spending over the last 5 years.

Anyways, f*ck Chad Johnson.

For this to end up being two first round picks Chad Johnson AND the Redskins need to hit certain targets. So, the skins target could be a playoff birth or a a confernece championship. There is not a sure pick at 21 and I would much rather have a perennial pro bowl WR than a project player for the next two to three seasons.

"And it is believed by some league observers that Chad’s campaign to be traded arose not from his zeal to wear a new uniform but from his desire to stuff more money into his pockets".

Bingo!!! As allways it is just about the money. Nothing more, nothing less.
Chad Johnson is not only an ahole but a raving lunatic to boot. Two number ones for an aging cancer who refers to himself in the third person? The Redskins are beyond help.

I am a huge Bengals fan, have been since 88, and I suffered witht he team through alot. That being said we need to trade Ocho Stinko before he gets worse than Pickens and Dillon combined. He has already made it past the Pickens level, and I think he is about ready to pass Dillon. His disgust whether people believe it or not hurt this team.

Bye Bye 85!

Two possibilities:

A)The Bengals have decided to stick it to #85 noo matter what the offer.

B)They are still the hapless Bungels and always will be.

It has to be one of those two. There is no way that the said NO to a first rounder and another pick that would potentially become ANOTHER first rounder for a 30 year old reciever who coldn't shut his mouth to save his life.

Also, the "magic beans" comment form Jeremiah W nearly had me rolling on the ground.

In my Opinion "The Mort" is being played. If Cincy, actually turned down the offer as it is stated above, they should fire everyone in the front office. CJ is good, but he is a 30 yr old WR who has avg. 8 TD's a year for the last 3.

One thing I want to note is Chad Johnson is 30, by not accepting this trade the Bengals really don't have the teams future in mind.

Blah, the Bengals are never going to have salary cap problems, unless it's getting above the cap floor. Salary cap space is so easy for teams to create, but doing so and then making use of that space increases the amount of actual money that you'll pay out over a given season. Accumulating a lot of first round draft picks means that Mike Brown would be even more out of pocket for bonus money. I think that the rumor that Mike Brown actually cares about winning is still circulating in some circles, and it needs to be squashed. He's obviously really content with just collecting the NFL revenue checks and doing stuff like turning the team that his dad built into an All-Felon team, using it as his personal hammer, which he uses to club guys like Dillon and Johnson on the head with, and naming the stadium after dad while at the same time whining about how he should get a chunk of whatever Jerry Jones negotiates for a stadium naming-rights deal.

Somebody needs to offer Brown a couple million bucks for Ocho Stinko. You know he'd take it.

Two firsts (unless he gets hurt, I don't see how it won't be) for Chad Johnson? I'm sure Carl Peterson got on the phone with Minnesota after reading this story and said "see, I'm not so crazy in my demands."

Florio, what do you think is more likely -- that the Skins have a nod-nod, wink-wink agreement with Chad to act like a psycho a-hole so that they can pursue him, or that he IS a psycho a-hole and that Dan Snyder just cannot help himself. I've been a Redskin fan for all of my 31 years, and I have come to hate them and everything that Snyder stands for.

It would eat up a lot of salary if the deal was made as-is but if paying two 2008 first round picks is the concern then they should insist on a restructured deal for a 2009 first rounder and second rounder...and if that's a concern, keep going down the line into 2010. As a Bengals fan, I recognize that we are not going to make the playoffs this year (with or without Chad). I also recognize that it would be great to let him rot for 3 years and ruin his NFL career. However, that is not good for the team. If this is an effort to get a higher more specific offer to what will help us based on number of picks provided and the salary cap effects, it is great. But more likely, it is Mike Brown being stubborn and incompetent and Chad will remain on our team much like Corey Dillon and Carl Pickens. Why was I born in Cincinnati? Why couldn't it have been an hour and a half west...I could've been a Colts fan. An hour and a half equals a lifetime of misery.

Rofl KY I know everytime I read a response by an eagle fan they feel lito sheppard and a 3rd is like amazing value. Eagle fans please realize your own team does not want to keep Lito and there doesnt seem to be much of a market for him and he is on the trading block. Time to be realistic about the value.

I don't know that this is all about money. I personally think that Chad has seen the reaction to his ill-thought out 'HOF 20??' jacket and realised that he is far from a lock to enter Canton.

If you don't believe me, Randy Moss was considered a workshy team wrecker during his Oakland days. Right now it's hard to think of many people who would say he doesn't have a very good shot at the HOF. His production is on a par with Moss, but his game changing abilities are possibly never going to be seen on a championship team, or even in a conference championship game at the Bengals' current rate of attrition.

If it was about money, god knows Chad could have carried on with the 'everyone's favourite WR' act he's had on for the last few years and cashed in when his career is over. He still could, but he's going to need to rebuild some serious damage here.

The Bungles deserve nothing for letting Ocho go. Salary cap hit? Are you kidding me? Do they ever even approach going over the cap?

Free Ocho Stinko. They would be so stupid not to take that deal. What if Chad shows up to Bungle camp and says he pulled a hammy? Strained my groin, is on his period, whatever, what then Bungle fans?

You try to trade him then and get next to nothing. I know that since you have no scouting department or GM that draft picks may as well be magic beans for you, but if there was anyone with a clue in charge anywhere in that part of Ohio, then they would be getting whatever they can to get Chad out of town.

Why would you want to force him to play for the Bungles? There are at least 15 other teams that would take him, but he is not going to just forget about whatever set him off and come back and give maximum effort at anything but getting out of town.

Let him payback the bonus money if the salary cap is at issue. Then they get no draft picks though, but this has become a control issue not a football one and I am on Ocho's side.

A common denominator in a lot of these malcontent cases is Rosenhaus. The way to solve it then would be for teams to refuse to have anything to do with players he represents. Not all agents are egomaniacs.Since greedy owners would never do that, they have to deal with the fruits of their shortsightedness.
