The Associated Press reports that Titans cornerback Pacman Jones paid off the man who was arrested last week for pulling the trigger at the Las Vegas strip club where Tommy Urbanski was shot and paralyzed in 2007.
“He paid $15,000 to his friends, who advised him that if he didn’t pay the money then this guy would come after him,” said Jones’ lawyer, Robert Langford.
Also, Jones went to Seattle on Friday and picked Arvin Kenti Edwards out of a lineup. (It’s unknown whether Kramer was one of the extras. Or a Twix bar.)
We’re aware of no crime in paying money to someone under an illegal threat of extortion. Still, the notion that Jones was scraping together cash to keep the shooter from implicating Jones (or worse) is unsavory, and could prompt Commissioner Roger Goodell to decide not to reinstate Jones.
Pacman’s recent pleas of no contest to misdemeanor charges in Las Vegas and felony charges in Georgia could give Goodell all the ammo he needs to suspend Jones for another year, if Goodell so chooses. More importantly, it’s possible that Jones previously failed to tell Goodell about the cash paid to the shooter — and/or that Jones denied to Goodell knowing who the shooter was.
If Goodell can prove that Pacman lied to the Commish about such an important issue, Goodell might have found the key to never letting Pacman back into the league.
And since all discipline imposed under the Personal Conduct Policy is appealable to the Commissioner only, it’s not as if Jones would have any meaningful recourse.

As a Cowboys fan, I hope this guy never gets back in the league. Pacman cant seem to keep is nose clean, his past keeps coming back to haunt him, and allowing someone like that back in to the NFL will tarnish the reputation of the entire league, not just whatever team picks him up.
If I were Goodell, I’d change the indefinite suspension to life long ban, and while I was at it, I’d probably add Pukeman to that list as well.

Florio should name Pacman as the sponsor of turd watch.
“Turd watch, brought to you by Pacman Jones!”

Pacman should have followed the Ted Kennedy rule; call your lawyers first. I am sure they would have given him better advice than to pay the money.

I can’t believe any owner or GM would touch this guy with a 10 foot pole. I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised, it is Jerry Jones after all.

Why not, CapsLock? Many teams have taken chances on guys that have been in a lot of trouble. Jerry Jones isn’t cornering any market, here. Bill Walsh brought Lawrence Phillips AND Tim “Six Pack” Harris to the 49ers. Ron Wolf once claimed a guy off waivers, even though he was serving an indefinite suspension for refusing to enter the substance abuse program.

How dumb do the Titans look if this turns out to be the reason Pacman get’s a lifetime ban? They could’ve traded him to the Cowboys weeks ago.

Of course, once Phillips totally whiffed on blocking an AZ pass rusher, Steve Young’s career ended abruptly. And LP was cut.
Walsh cut his losses immediately.

I think you pacman supports are missing something in this story. If Goodell aks packman if he knew the shooter, and he said no, lying to Goodell is not going to help his case.
This story makes it sound like not only did pacman know him, but he was probable rolling pacman blunts in the back seat of the car BEFORE they got to the strip club.

He was seeking payment for “Services rendered” not services to be performed.
Looks like Arvin Edwards just sidestepped the Nevada Dept. of Employment’s wage resolution process. (Is that legal?)

I don’t know if it’s possible to cut your losses after your problem child retires your first ballot hall of fame QB prematurely. Phillips wasn’t cut until much later, by the way. About two months later, after the team suspended him for three games for getting into a confrontation with a coach.
