The Cincinnati Bengals’ official web site reports that linebacker Odell Thurman has finally been reinstated by the NFL.
But the Cincinnati Bengals’ official web site says that the Cincinnati Bengals’ official football team has yet to confirm the news.
Thurman’s status has been the source of much consternation (Emmitt recommends Ex-Lax) in Cincinnati, due to the ongoing failure of the league office to allow Thurman back into the league. Because the league’s substance-abuse procedures are cloaked in secrecy, it has been difficult for folks to understand why Thurman’s suspension has lingered.
UPDATE: The Cincinnati Enquirer has the same story, with a higher degree of certainty.
SECOND UPDATE: The Bengals have announced that Thurman has indeed been reinstated. Said coach Marvin Lewis: “Odell has met the NFL’s conditions for reinstatement and has been added to our offseason roster. It is now up to Odell to continue to meet all NFL guidelines, and to maintain a standard of personal responsibility that will allow him the chance to compete for a spot on our team.”

Odell was punished a lot more severely than either PacMan or Chris Henry for a lot less. He didn’t incite riots or bite police officers or give booze to underage girls. This was a long time coming and I for one hope that Odell is able to regain the form that had him in the running for rookie of the year.

Keep in mind that Odell is really not a thug like Henry and Pacman. Odell has a substance abuse problem.

I look forward to the Bengals playing Odell. They sure can use him with Pollick out and probably will not return.

Odell set the league on fire in his Rookie 2005 Season and was considered for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Played 16 Games Started 15 of them
148 Tackles (although the NFL site says 98)
4.5 Sacks
4 Passes Def
5 Interceptions and 1 for TD
He has been reported to working very hard and hulking up big time.
I think he will be the model citizen that Cincy needs going forward.
Plus, his party buddy (Henry) is gone too.
I don’t think Brooks is the answer in the Middle and you will all see Thurman win his job back in short fashion.
Opps…I flushed a DolFan……….sorry Taylor time to Dance The Night Away!!!

Once again, Odell has a substance abuse problem - an all but too common problem in America - gets his life turned around and is out for 2 years. Shawne “Lights Out” Merriman, the rookie the same year, gets busted for intentionally cheating (oh, yeah, unknown supplement) and is out 4 games. Sounds like the commish is a extremely fair and balanced.

To Dolfan: GREAT stuff….LOL….to Beaver: Thurman a model citizen? Well, with that team I suppose the definition of “model citizen” is very broad…
