Here’s yet another look at the risk of taking quarterbacks high in round one.
The Colts say they’ll find the good players, no matter where they play.
Texas WR Limas Sweed thinks it would be “cool” to be a Patriot. (As “cool” as being named “Limas”?)
The Pats like to draft offensive linemen.
QB Matt Ryan recently was quoted as saying, “I think I’ve got the squints.” (If he falls past No. 8 in round one, the “n” can be replaced with an “r”.)
Jets director of college scouting Joey Clinkscales on the possibility of picking RB Darren McFadden: “He’s a great person to talk to. We’ve done our homework. If that is the pick that we choose to make, we will be comfortable with that decision.”
Could DT Sedrick Ellis be the pick of the Ravens at No. 8?
If not the Ravens, then maybe it’ll be the Bengals for Sedrick Ellis, at No. 9.
Ellis says he can play in the 4-3, or nose tackle in the 3-4.
Troy CB Leodis McKelvin once shut down Calvin Johnson.
The Ravens picked a bad year to need safeties.
From the “Sun Rises In The East” file, the Browns won’t draft a quarterback.
The Steelers want to beef up the defensive line.
One team asked LB Jerod Mayo when he last cheated on his girlfriend. (He said that he’s never cheated on his girlfriend. As if he would admit it.)
Even Emmitt Smith has a mock draft.
Broncos CB Dominique Foxworth has signed his restricted free agency tender; he’ll make $927,000 in 2008.
Jeff Legwold of the Rocky Mountain News lists his top 100 players in the draft. (And he’s got Brian Brohm at No. 10.)
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt wants to build the team through the draft.
Will it really shock anyone if the Raiders draft RB Darren McFadden?
The Chargers are looking for the next Michael Turner.

The article on top QB busts left out a huge number of bust over the recent past. Guys like Andre Ware, David Klingler, Cade McNown, and so forth, were not mentioned.
If I were a GM, I’d never draft a QB or a WR in the first round. Very few work out and become the studs they are billed to be. And you can always pick up good ones as a free agent - as proven NFL players.

It really wouldn’t shock me at all if Al Davis drafts Darren McFadden.
I’m probably one of the few Raider fans that will agree to that selection. We desperatly need a playmaker at RB. We have one too many work horses and no long threat like D-MAC. Trade Jordan and Fargas as much as I hate to say it and get us a 2nd round pick or early first and get that DT or DE that we need. It’s just too hard to pass on a player of that caliber again!(ergo Adrian Peterson)

If you took a polygraph test, then you might be a Bronco.

“VOMIT” SMITH sure does have a “Mock” Draft.
Seattle takes ROY Rice. I first thought maybe a typo, but no.
He calls Ray Rice ROY 4 MORE TIMES.

That’s hilarious, monger.
More shocking that Brohm at #10 in the Rocky Mountain’s Top 100 is #8 & #9: Jonathan Stewart and Rashard Mendenhall. So the three RBs are all in the Top 10? I’m big on Stewart and Mendenhall (moreso than McFadden), but Top 10 is kind of silly.
I do like the Brohm > Ryan take, though.

emmitt smiths column has to be some kind of joke. He spelled nearly every player’s name wrong that he mentions. Jarrett Norwood? Stephen Johnson of the Rams? huh? QB Clyde Lemon!? hahahahaha Either this is big F-U to everyone, or Emmitt has been smokin the green leaf

Clearly Emmitt is a student of the game….brilliant mock. The Patriots taking Mendenhall twice was classic and just good planning on their part.

Ohhhh man that Emmitt Smith mock was hilarious. And also, as for Charles Bricker’s article, he is wrong to imply that teams shouldn’t take first round quarterbacks at all. Where would the Indianapolis Colts be? What about the Pittsburgh Steelers.. twice. Denever Broncos (Baaaaaltimore Colts), Dallas Cowboys, etc. It’s hard to tell whether a guy will be a bust or not, but if you need a quarterback and believe in what you see out of a college prospect, then you have to do what you have to do. The elite quarterbacks usually come from the first round, despite major risks.

On first round QB busts it’s interesting to look at how those teams that have recovered from their bad picks did so. San Diego corrected their Leaf mistake by first drafting Brees in early round 2, and then by getting Rivers who was drafted #4 overall. Cincinnati fixed their Akili mistake by drafting Carson Palmer #1 overall. So, yes, drafting QBs high can blow up in your face, but these teams have benefited from their willingness to take another stab at it, not by shying away from the risk.

I thought Emmitt’s piece was real at first, but then I looked at that picture and read the Tebow pick.
Chris Leak and Tebow in the first round, classic Emmitt.

That “Emmit” mock draft was great. The fact that he picks only RB’s, QB’s, WR’s and TE’s is hilarious. I was laughing so hard my wife asked me why and when you have to breakdown a joke it just loses it impact. Al David of the Raiders, god that killed me.
