Let me ask you a question. Was Steve Young a Hall-of-Famer before throwing to Rice and Co? He didn't look like it in Tampa. Was Bradshaw a Hall-of-Famer before Swann and Stallworth? Wasn't he accused of being the least intelligent QB in the league? Wasn't Manning's only option for a while Harrison (before Wayne was even drafted)? Manning threw a record number of INTs until he and Marvin built a special relationship. That is more than one question but none of those QBs appeared to HOF until their teams added high caliber receivers.

Boldin is not quite the big body that would be the ideal WR for the Eagles , but he's a legit #1 WR and from what I can tell, a solid citizen. That makes him an excellent choice, should the Cards want to trade. Ditto for Roy Williams. Either could be a poor man's Moss to team up with Curtis as the poor man's Welker - and vastly improve the team's offensive options.

Right now neither the Cards nor the Lions are publicly amenable to these trades. Could be the truth, or could be a strategy. We'll see what happens during the draft, and afterwards once the dust settles.

The one guy you can count out IMO is 85. Cincy wants to show the world who's the boss of Chad, so he's not going anywhere, but even were he available, the personality similarities of TO and Stinko are too rank for Andy Reid's delicate nose.

GNII, I think the Hall of Fame QB's throwing to Rice, Stallworth, Swann, Irvin, Taylor, Harrison and Wayne had more to do with it than the receivers.

Pointless discussion - the birds will take an OT with the first pick because their current guys are older than dirt and Justice is a revolving door. The only way they get a good WR is if they get really lucky in the 2nd round.

Calvin Johnson has yet to prove he's a #1 receiver, but Lito Sheppard and a #1 pick would be hard to turn down if that was the offer...I would rather a 1st round pick from Dallas and toss in Marion Barber III if looking at dream offers haaa

gibsonplyer, my friend, we all have choices. Are the Eagles without decent receivers (okay, Curtis is decent, though not a #1) because they were all traded away? I haven't seen an influx of quality receivers in Philly for quite some time. Granted, T.O. was extremely detrimental to the team and we don't have to count him here. You have a pro bowl QB, one of the finest receiving running backs the NFL has ever seen, why wouldn't more wide outs be telling their agents to get a piece of that action?

And yes, it was pot shot at the Eagles. Just seems they could do something to attract more talent.

@ korikill, who said: Boldin makes more sense. Ocho Stinko won’t land anywhere near Philly after they got ‘debacled’ by T.O..
___
Boldin is more attractive as a player but for that reason AZ is not going to let him go. The T.O. effect makes 85 less attractive in the Eagles' eyes but you have to remember, the Eagles got to the Super Bowl and almost won with a less than 100% T.O. They had nothing other than him and McNabb. They haven't sniffed the Super Bowl or NFC championship since T.O.

@LenSp1

There is no basis in fact for your claim that "NFL teams don’t need top receivers to win the Super Bowl. How many of the top receivers have SB rings?" Since NE has been winning a lot recently their have been fewer star receivers getting a ring.

Let's go back past the NE years. Let's think about Paul Warfield, Lynn Swann (4 rings), John Stallworth (4 rings), Fred Biletnikoff (2 rings), Drew Pearson, Art Monk, Michael Irvin (4 rings) Jerry Rice (too many rings), John Taylor (3 rings), Tory Holt, Issac Bruce & Marvin Harrison. Reggie Wayne.

When these guys were in the Super Bowl they were viewed as the elite at their position. All are either Hall of Famers or will be by the time they finish. (Even Wayne who looks to be Peyton's number one with Marvin being a very competent #2 receiver).

With that, I have skipped Cliff Branch (2 rings), Dwight Clark, Andre Rison, Keyshawn Johnson, Hines Ward & Plaxico Burress.

Most of these guys proclaimed that they were among the best if not actually being well respected as being a superior receiver at the time.

Some teams do not rely on their passing game as much and as a result tend to have solid receivers who block well. The Giants generally have been like that as have the Bears and Broncos. Most of the Super Bowl winners have had stellar receivers.

How anyone could ignore Swann, Rice, Stallworth and Irvin is incredible. Their rings alone are enough to support that position that if a team have a excellent receiver, with other talent, that team is in a good position to win the game.

Funny a Bengal fan under the name KY has the nerve to talk bad about ANY place else other then KY being a s-hole.

If the Eagles get Johnson in a trade I'll refuse to cheer if he scores. I'm sick of these guys who think they are gods gift to the NFL and don't even make the deciding factor in games. LINEMAN do.

Hey for all those "WR's don't want to go to Philly" brain surgeons here's a concept that I think you should be able to grasp. The players we're talking about since they're on ANOTHER TEAM don't have a CHOICE of where they go. I know this gets in your way of making an idiot out of yourself and taking pot shots at the Eagles but its the choice of the team if the player is traded or not. Sorry.

Also in the linked article there is no explicit denial of a possible trade. When asked he laughed but never said at any point they weren't going to trade. Any actual denials were months old.

Yeah all the WR's mentioned would be better than the crap the Birds got now.

Truth be told the Eagles as always (minus 2005) never fully went for it. As Big Red has already said, "We have plenty of talent at the WR position." So this is all crap so the freaking Eagles can bullshit us loyal fans into believing the did all they could do.

Thanks Eagles! Let me now prepare for another season where Jim Johnson puts a solid defense on the field and we lose games 13-10.

Damn why was I born an Eagle fan.

KY, couple problems with your reasons.

1) The place isn't a s-hole because Philly is a damn good place to be 2) Last time I checked, McNabb had a few Pro Bowls under his belt and could lead the team into the playoffs every year with a decent #1 WR

The only way they will get one, though, is through trading because Reid will never draft a WR in the first round of the draft. And it's obvious that trading isn't working out, so it could be another season with curtis at the #1 spot.

I dsagree, receivers can be found anywhere. I think the Eagles are trying to placate McNabb. It's a win - win for the Eagles. Get him a playmaker and he plays well, the team wins games. They get him a playmaker and he plays poorly, it makes it easier to justify unloading him and turning the team over to Kolb.

I disagree, you can find receivers anywhere. I think the Eagles are looking for a premier wideout to placate McNabb. It's a win - win for the Eagles. If they get him a playmaker and he does well, they win games. They get him a playmaker and he plays poorly, they can justify letting him go and turning the team over to Kolb.

I have to disagree. While top quality starting pitchers are critical to winning in the playoffs, NFL teams don't need top receivers to win the Super Bowl. How many of the top receivers have SB rings? Not Moss, not Fitzgerald, not Owens, not Smith, not Ocho Stinko. Marvin Harrison has one, but he got it the year the Colts defense and running took over in the playoffs. With the salary cap, spending the big bucks on a receiver just doesn't pay off like big bucks at corner or LB or DE or RB or LOT does. Plus, it's probably not a coincidence that most big name receivers have huge egos also. The big egos get in the way of team play.

The Eagles do need better receivers. But there's no guarantee that top notch one will really make them better. Especially since it will still be Mr. Average Accuracy For His Career throwing the ball AND Mr. Throw It All The Time Despite Having a Huge OL And All-Pro RB calling the plays from the sideline.

i think top receivers are becoming similar to starting pitchers in baseball; there's so few of top quality that when you do get one you don't let them go unless you absolutley have to.

Th Eagles swap picks with New England, grab Ryan Clady, then trade Sheppard and a 2nd round pick to Arizona for Anquan Boldin. What a draft that would be!!!

Uh... the receivers aren't the ones who negotiate the trades.

Roy won't be traded, Chad won't be traded, nobody will be traded. Then the realization will eventually hit these bad teams with good receivers that if they move some of these guys, maybe they'll make the deals and eventually achieve the balance they need to no longer suck anymore.

Boldin makes more sense. Ocho Stinko won't land anywhere near Philly after they got 'debacled' by T.O..
