This could blow up in Tuna's face if Long decides he wants to be #1 pick and play in Miami. All he has to do is order his agent to accept the proposal on the table. Playing for a proven winner, in Miami, could make up for a lot of lost clams.

It is only 4 days until the draft and it does make sense, financially, to have a deal worked out ahead of time. They don't have time to get a deal done with Gholston or anyone else except Long. So a smokescreen does not seem very likely to me.

But what do I know?

Gholston would be a huge mistake. And as a Patriots fan, I wish it did happen.

Nobody knows what Parcells will do. I wouldn't be surprised to see him trade down to get more picks, address more needs, and probably lower his entry-level cap hit.

I'm not sure Gholston is worthy of the top overall pick. When you're accused of not playing hard on every play, that is not a good thing.

Has anybody ever said that about Chris Long?

Couldn't Miami be pushing the smoke screens that they're actually looking for anyone but Long so they can get a reasonable price at the table from Long?

I mean, if I'm only talking to one guy I'm probably going to whisper to others that it's a reuse so that the guy I want doesn't drain my bank account.

Is that kind of "smokescreen" worth it with the first overall pick? It's much less risky to have a deal worked out ahead of time. And the Miami Dolphins do have a need for a cornerstone offensive lineman. It seems that the most likely pick is in fact Long.

Then again, the next Howie Long or Lawrence Taylor wouldn't hurt either. (Chris Long, Vernon Gholston -- the guy who got the sack against Jake Long haha.) Yeah, I can that, here come Anthony Munoz, Howie Long, and Lawrence Taylor!

Not.

IT IS A SMOKESCREEN!!! Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparno don't believe in taking an offensive linesman that high. Look at the Cowboys' draft history. Even Parcells is shopping for his coach's grocery.
