A tight end who doesn’t block or go in motion? That’s called a wide receiver. The might as well just change Shockey’s designation because he couldn’t block my grandmother.

That’s a terrible article on the Cowboys’ Roy Williams. Not that he doesn’t have problems in coverage, but more because the author tries to pump up some pretty average tight ends. Vernon Davis has 72 catches and 7 TDs in two seasons and word out of SF is that he is having trouble grasping Martz’s offense, which doesn’t make great use of the TE in the first place. Shockey has the numbers but he’s a liability when he’s playing and may be traded out of the division anyway. The Bucs’ Alex Smith and Jerramy Stevens only scored 7 TDs COMBINED last year, yet the author thinks that every team that the Cowboys will face in ‘08 except the Seahawks is strong at the TE position. He even props LJ Smith up. The dude averages 3 TDs a season! Roy Williams has as many career TDs as Smith has managed to score in Cowboys/Eagles games (1), and HIS WAS A GAME-WINNER.

If McNair does not get in the HOF becuse his numbers were not impresive enough, than it is going to be full of guys like Vinnie Testaverde who played loneger, but w ahole lot worse.
If McNair is judged fairly vs his peers, he is a first ballot lock along with Favre. McNair has HOF winning percentage and rushing numbers, along with the fact that he played through some of the most severe injuries any QB of his era endured.
He was clearly the leader of his team even without saying much he got his guys to rally around him, and there was not a more dangerous QB to try and stop when protecting a lead even with Ray Lewis and the best defense in history on the other side of the line.
Keep him out and you have to revoke Gale Sayers, all the QBs with worse stats in equall years, and forget about Terrel Davis, who should also get in this year.
Speaking of HOF Ravens, J.O. was secretly so sick of Billick that he may have retired right away if he had not been fired. The Big Toe may not be fully healed, but he was in good enough shape week 17 to dominate the Steeler front 7, blocking 2 and even 3 guys on a single run play on occasion. His man never got to Smith either that day.
He may be the best LT in the NFL still, but the best draft pick the Ozzie may have ever made is his back up Jared Gaither.
I went to Maryland, so I knew about him as a recruit. The guy is so freaking big and agile it is ridiculous. I saw him dominate Mario Williams as a freshman LT in a big win for the Terps over NCState.
He had a little trouble staying focused and motivated to play college ball I think after proving himself to be a future first round pick, and did not respond well to the discipline of coach Fridge and moving to RT or the bench if he did not like it.
He was very young, and learned from his mistakes. he has been a steal of a pick as a 5th round supplimental.
This draft class has 5 or 6 pretty good looking T prospects in it, but if Gaither were to be measured up, he would be rated higher than all of them but Jake Long. He is younger than Jake though and taller and quicker. Gaither also has tape of him blocking Trent Cole on a TD pass in his first NFL action. Dominating Carter from the Redskins the next week, as well as about a hundred padded practices going up against Terrel Suggs and Trevor Pryce. There is no doubt the adjustment to NFL speed and strength is going to take a little while for the rookies, while he will already be practiced and proven by the time they get the first contact.

Shockey’s too stiff to play the outside positions and too slow to get separation from a cornerback, not to mention the fact that his strength to ward off a jam would be outweighed by his comparatively (compared to real WRs) slow feet. He could play in the slot if it never called for motion or blocking. But it does. The Giants’ problem is that Shockey is the biggest personality on the field when he’s out there and shEli knows he has to try to get him the ball or he’s gonna pout. Hey, that’s usually a WR thing too.

McNair does not belong in the hall. He had a couple of good years. He did not dominate for very long. He would not even sniffed the super bowl if it wasn’t for his special teams and A FORWARD PASS. And when your in the bowl with the game on the line. THROW THE BALL IN THE END ZONE. He will probably get in the HOF they let to many guy’s in. It should be harder to get in.

I was a big McNair fan but there is no way he is a HOF quarterback. The HOF is supposed to be for the best of the best.

Gruden seems to have the same problem picking up quarterbacks that my wife has buying shoes - there are never too many!
Roy Williams not on the playing field on third down? He isn’t really on the field for the first two either. There is no more overrated safety in the NFL.
Steve McNair is not a Hall of Famer. No way. Not even close. Had he been healthy throughout his career and started from day one maybe. It’s a shame, but the Hall is for greatness, not very good.

Considering that most of the players Ted Thompson traded down to get, aren’t starters and he has never drafted a pro-bowler, he might want to consider trading up once in a while. Their isn’t a more over-rated NFL executive.

I agree, Girthy. And this is coming from a Packer fan. I don’t have any trust in his abilities at all. You don’t get anywhere by trading away 2nd rounders for 3rd’s and 5th’s. And he still hasn’t managed to solidify the guard position since Wahle and Rivera left. He wanted Favre gone so he could finally put his personal stamp on the team. And I also agree that it’s about time some of his picks start earning trips to Hawaii, although I have high hopes for Greg Jennings. Of course that all depends on Aaron Rodgers turning into a reliable starting QB.

What people forget about Steve McNair is what a true pioneer he was for the Black QB. People forget what the NFL was like before 1995. We’re so spoiled now with the Leftwich’s, Vick’s, Jamarcus’, Troy Smith’s, Garrard’s, Culpepper’s, Brook’s, Gray’s, and McNabb’s being so common in today’s NFL, that we forget that Steve McNair is the one that broke open the door for the Black QB.
Before McNair there were once a generation guys like Moon, Cunningham and Doug Williams, and some subpar journeyman Vince Evans, Rodney Peete types. But these guys were always “the exception” and were always held to more scrutiny since it was such a “special situation”. But the arrival and success of Steve McNair changed all that.
Throw in the fact that he came from a small school added even more question marks. But his leadership, ability, and authenticity as the real deal, not only inspired high school and college Black QB’s to stick with their position, but he changed the perception around the league, that a talented Black QB was simply a talented QB.
Disagree? Look at the number of black starting QB’s and black QB’s drafted before and after McNair.
I think the fact that this past week no one even mentions the fact that he is Black, is proof of how effectively he changed things in the NFL. And for that intangible, I think he should be put in the HOF.
