In response to the emergence of a new proposed trade chart, a league source tells us that, in his opinion and based on discussions with most of the other NFL teams, the proposal is the direct result of the Philadelphia Eagles to make it easier to trade up from the No. 19 overall spot in the 2008 draft.
“The whole thing sounds like an elaborate ruse,” the source said.
It’s not clear who the Eagles would be targeting via a move, or how high they’d like to go. If the Eagles are indeed behind the creation of the new chart, the fact that the first four picks dropped in value and the rest of the first-rounders increased suggests that they’d like to get into the top four — and possibly all the way to No. 1.
Moreover, if the Eagles are trying to pull off a move up, there’s only one other team that needs to agree with the chart, and that’s the team with whom the Eagles would be trading.
Besides, the reality is that, if a team that wants to trade down can’t find a partner under the existing trade chart, then maybe a new chart really is needed.
Or why shouldn’t both teams say “the hell with the chart,” if they so choose? The pick is worth whatever the team who’ll trade it thinks it worth. Does anyone really think that the Tuna gives a flying fish about whether he’ll be criticized from taking less than what the Jimmy Johnson trade chart dictates he should receive?
Regardless, the suspicion that is being directed at the Eagles confirms our belief that any meaningful change to the trade chart can come only after the draft and before the start of the regular season, since during that period of time no team can be accused of trying to stack the deck in support of its own short-term interests.

Using the trade chart as a bible is garbage any way you look at it.
It should only be a broad guide, the abundance (or lack of) talent in a draft class can greatly affect a picks worth.

I could see it happening, but it pretty much point to either Long being drafted. Fill the void at tackle since both Runyan and Thomas (whatever his name is this week) are both at a point where they have two good years left, or strike and fix the linebacking position to give Gaither a friend.

The eagles could somehow grab the number one spot? That would be pretty sweet if they did. They must truly covet the best Offensive Linemen in this draft. Noway they’d be looking at any other player but a linemen.

If its true that they wanna move up to the top 4, and for some reason I personally doubt it, it would be for Chris Long and ill tell you why.
Jake Long? No way they trade up for him cuz there are tons of quality OT prospects in this draft, one of which is bound to drop to them, and they wouldn’t have to pay top dollar if they just stayed put.
Glenn Dorsey? I doubt it cuz they like Jean Gilles and Patterson is good too. Plus Balmer from UNC will be there.
Run DMC? no cuz of westbrook.
The only reason Chris Long makes any sense is cuz JJohnson needs to have 2-3 good pass rushers in order for his blitzes to work…while they brought in Clemons and they have Trent Cole, I think he is probably begging for 1 more guy.
But honestly I just dont think they will do it, it would make for an interesting move but with the way the draft pick financials are set up I just don’t see the point in risking it.
Eagles, just keep Lito, draft a Olineman in the 1st, grab a wideout with some starting potential within the first 3 rounds, and draft a DE for Jimmy and I will be happy…or trade Lito and a 3rd for Ocho, that would be a risk that would be totally worth taking

It’s a lineman they’re looking for. They traded up for a lineman, defensive end Jerome Mcdougal. They traded up for Shaun Andrews, an offensive tackle at the time. So obviously they’re targeting a lineman, but i think it’s Otah, not Jake or Chris Long. Lito isn’t enough to jump 15-19 spots. I think they’re looking to get up to picks 8-12 and take Otah.

Andy Reid seems to have a love for OL or interior linemen with his high picks. I think it’s a toss-up for either Jake Long or Dorsey. Either would have a big impact on that team.

When Eagles President, Joe Banner, was talking about the new trade chart the other day he made it sound like it came from somewhere else. I got the impression that the Eagles weren’t even one of the first three or four teams to have input into the new pick values.
I’m not sure why the Eagles would hide something like that. In fact, they couldn’t hide something like that. None of the other teams are going to take an anonymous draft chart seriously; the team(s) that developed it are going to have to stand behind it.
I guess I’m saying I don’t think the Eagles developed the new chart because Banner probably would have said so if they did.

Patriots are trading back to 10 so the Saints can get Ellis before the Bengals do. They then will trade that pick and a 3rd to the Eagles for Lito and #19 so the Eagles can get Devin Williamson before the Bills do. Swing and a miss at WR for the Eagles. Again.

I think Florio is confusing the Eagles clout with the Patriots, lol.
All of the sudden Andy Reid is Dr. Evil? I’m supposed to believe the guy who is masterminding the upheaval of the entire draft process is the same guy who thought he could win a Super Bowl with James Thrash as a #1 wide receiver?
Come on Mike, stop it. My stomach hurts from laughing so much at this story.

Narrabeen, what does liking Max Jean-Gilles have anything to do with Glenn Dorsey? Last time I checked, Jean-Gilles was a Guard…that’s an offensive position, in case you didn’t know. The two reasons they wouldn’t draft Dorsey (if they moved up) would be Patterson and Bunkley.

The Bird’s do not have the greatest track record when it comes to moving up in the draft to take a DE.
Less we forget the before mentioned Mike (One Move) Mamula or Jerome (Shoot Me if you can) McDougle. Not to mention Andy (Times Yours) Reid track record with first round picks with the exception of Donovan (Pro Bowl), Shawn Andrews (Pro Bowl) and Lito (Soon to be traded) Sheppard (Pro Bowl). We have Freddie (Arena League) Mitchell, Corey (To Fat For Football?) Simon and the before mentioned Jerome (Shoot Me if you can) McDougle. The Schools still out on Mike (It’s my stash) Patterson and Brodrick(The Truck) Bunkley. So by my count to of Andy (Times yours) Reid. Out of his 9 first round pick’s only 4 will be in training camp this year 1 will be traded 1 will be cut and 2 will be begging for food. That could be a good thing for Corey the less food he has the better unless he deices to eat Freddie. Wait that’s only 8 oh yeah he traded last years pick to the (F@%%^%$&&*N) Cowboy’s. And you guessed it they took a DE!
So when someone tells me that the EAGLES are trying to manipulate the draft I say sure and the world is FLAT!

Hmmmm….. why go through all this trade chart modification? as if someone in the top 4 picks wants an official new trade chart? most teams would just make a trade based on how their needs fit into the value of this draft and therefore make a trade down from the top 4 picks taking maybe a little less than the present trade chart value guideline. so what team in the top 4 picks is most concerned about how a trade down would be perceived by a prudent man, John Q. Public? If I recall St. Louis Rams are presently operating under the scrutiny of the probate court because the longtime owner died somewhat recently. Additionally there seems to be 3 different factions potentially battling each other for control over the franchise. So any major move by the existing management will be potentially used by one of the 3 competing ownership groups to mount a challenge to the existing controlling party.
So if the Rams traded down from #2 overall and took in return anything less than the existing trade chart value table then that could be just enough for one of the potential ownership groups (3 different parties, all with less than majority share) to challenge the existing controlling party of the franchise. Even if the move was to save money on rookie contracts. So that would possibly explain why there is a lot of chatter about modifying the existing trade chart. My hunch is the counter party to the Eagles would be the Rams.

I never understood why the Draft Chart is set in stone anyway. I think it’s a solid guide for a team, but the fact of the matter is that if a GM think he is making at trade that sets his team up better for the future, he should pull the trigger. Luckily for the Dolphins, Parcells is one GM/Overseer/Whatever he is that absolutely does not care, or even need to care about what public opinion if he makes a trade. I’m an Eagle fan, but if I were a Dolphins fan I would feel great knowing Parcells is making the decisions. If he thinks a trade is better for my 1-15 team, who am I to argue with The Godfather of the NFL? Parcells has that type of credibility that he can be the one to buck the trade chart without fear of losing face. If he wants to, more power to him. GO BIRDS!
And with Westbrook approaching 30, I’m sure they’ll be looking for someone to replace him…though I doubt it would be DMC.

Treez: all teams use a chart they didn’t create because jimmy johnson created the one used up til now and he isnt with a team anymore.
In my opinion, even with Lito, the Eagles won’t move up to the top few picks; they value draft picks too much to give enough away to get there (under any chart). In my estimation, if they are behind this, it would be for the purpose of allowing a trade partner (Cincinnati or Buffalo maybe) to move up to the top by devaluing the first few and raising the value of the next several.
Personally, unless part of a deal to get Johnson, Williams, Boldin, or a similar quality guy, I wish they would keep Lito and sweeten his deal for the next two years by about a million per. Three (or four) good corners are necessary anyway. Had they kept Rod Hood last year, they would have been way better off last year when Lito went down. They have enough picks to draft a O Lineman with 19, and then in my judgement they should pick Chris Johnson of East Carolina in the second. He solves the kickoff return issue and may in time eventually develop into another Westbrook but with the fastest speed at the combine this year.
As some other have suggested, since leaguewide no one has a good idea how to draft wideouts, and the Eagles who picked Freddie Mitchell instead of Reggie Wayne are foremost in striking out on drafting wides, they should draft three or four in the middle to late rounds and hope to catch lightning in a bottle like Buddy Ryan’s feat of drafting four wideouts in 1990. Buddy;s second round pick was a bust, but Fred Barnett in the third and Calvin Williams in the fifth both ended up as starters. They only need one Fred Barnett, whose speed would have actually matched up well with the Eagles current recievers.
