Virginia defensive end Chris Long told CNBC on Thursday that, if he’s drafted by the Oakland Raiders, he won’t sport his dad’s trademark flat top.

Howie Long became a Hall of Famer with the Raiders, and has had the same hairdo longer than Gallagher.

Long also doesn’t seem to be interested in wearing his dad’s number, 75, if he ends up in the same silver and black that Howie wore.  Darren Rovell of CNBC thinks that could be a mistake.  Eddie White of Reebok told Rovell that it could go either way.

“If he wants the quick hit,” White said, ”he should go with his dad’s number 75.  It will be the top rookie jersey.  People will buy it right away.  But if he has confidence in himself, he should pick another number, so that he can make a name for himself.”

More importantly for our purposes (since it’s Friday and Friday means we talk to you about our official telecommunications partner), Long already has an endorsement deal with Sprint.

Long talked to CNBC about Sprint’s draft coverage, and Long said that he and Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan will be writing draft-day blogs that will be available for review on Sprint mobile devices.

We wonder whether Ryan will type “Aaarrgh!” if he’s passed over at No. 3 (Falcons), No. 5 (Chiefs), No. 8 (Ravens), or beyond.  The one way to find out is to be checking out a Sprint phone as the picks unfold.

Even if you don’t have NFL Network in your home, you can watch all of the draft on the NFLN feed available via your Sprint phone.  If you don’t have a Sprint phone, you’ve got eight days to get one.
