Even as Bengals receiver Chad Johnson continues to increase the rhetoric regarding his desire to be traded to a new team, and his intention not to report for mandatory offseason training camps and/or training camp, we continue to hear that the team will not trade him.
Of course, that doesn’t stop another team from making them an offer. But we’re also hearing that no one is interested in acquiring Johnson.
Why would they be? With each word that rambles out of his mouth in his effort to be traded, he makes himself less desirable to any other team. He has become a cartoon character who also happens to play football, and we can’t imagine any team coughing up draft picks and/or players in order get him.

The same thing happened to T.O., and everything turned out fine.
Somebody will offer something for him–it just may happen during the season when a receiver gets injured.

Mike,
I’m a die hard Bengals fan sick of the Chad drama. The man signed a contract and should honor it. With that said, here’s a question I have.
What happens if the Bengals keep him and he doesn’t report to camp and sits out the season? I’m assuming that he doesn’t get paid his 7-8 million dollar salary. Is this correct? Chad Johnson only cares about himself and money. Regardless of what he says, he won’t sit out the season if he’s going to lose his salary for the year. All the drama surrounding him now is simply about him wanting more money and a new contract (again). There is no way he sits out the season. If he does, Mike Brown probably won’t mind. That’s just a few million dollars he keeps in his bank account. Am I wrong or will he still get his salary even if he continues to cry and sits out??

If the Eagles dont jump at the chance to get Johnson, they TO won. He alter a franchises approach and has hurt the potential success of the team.
Lito Sheppard for CJ straight up make unbelievable sense for both teams. Bengals and Eagles ought to top BSing and just get the deal done. This would allow the Eagles to go after Phillips in the draft and oline round two, while allowing the bengals to go dline round 1 and WR round 2.

I don’t know about that Florio. Everyone knows that Chad can flat out play. If he was happy somewhere he would be fine, like TO and Moss now. If a team can get him to sign an incentive-laden deal with little risk besides the first or second rounder needed to land him, he would be a valuable asset. COaches have jobs to keep. Someone will take that risk.
Ocho can Play-o. He would look good in Aqua and Coral.

Free Ocho. I know he is willing to pay his way out. The Bungles are trying to get something in return other than the cap relief.

I hope the Raiders can get him, trade Asomugh for him since we won’t be able to sign him with the idiot deal we gave to get that weakling deangelo hall.
Him to go along with Russell, Miller and the running game that is in place 7 to 8 wins would be real close.

Why would they? That’s a goofy statement….here’s why - 92.4, 1374, 8.6 - those are the avg’s over the last 5 years for receptions, yards, and 8.6….why indeed - someone did take TO and Randy - how’d that work out for both of those most recent teams? That’s just plain stooopid!

The bottom line is he will be wearing a Patriots’ uniform this year. Book it. Bill Belichick has always been enamored with CJ. If you look at his comments over the last few years he has mentioned he would love playing with the Patriots. The issue is not money.

I think you over-estimate many of the franchises in the NFL.
We’re talking about a league where Javon Walker gets crazy money despite having the legs of my Grandad, where Terrell Owens destroys a franchise in less than two seasons and still walks straight into a contract with their division rivals no less, and of course, most tellingly, a league where Maurice Clarrett is drafted in the third round.
You should hold a sweep on what offence Maurice was actually committing at the moment the Broncos drafted him. My pick is Piracy. Not copying music or anything, actual Piracy. With a boat.

Why do people propose trades to the Bengals for CB’s in the last years of their contracts?
Newsflash! The bengals have 2 first round picks starting at CB… they don’t want a high-priced 1 year contract for a player at a position that’s not a need position.
If you were offering a DT with 3-4 years left on his deal it might be worth listening to. Our pass defense sucked because we got no pass rush, not because we had bad defensive backs.
Lito and Nhamdi are fine players, but they’re not something that would interest the Bengals.

I’ve been a DIE HARD Bengals fan ever since I can remember. I hope the Bengals do not change their minds. Let Chad sit out the year. I think Chad is afraid of the schedule we have this year and knows that he won’t be as productive, so he’s willing to sit so he doesn’t look bad. I fear he will come back in week 10 so that he gets credit for the year. But then he’ll get “hurt” and won’t be able to play. He’ll do the same thing until his contract expires.

Ok people stop saying the Bengals should trade Ocho Sucko for Lito Sheppard or Asmough. They just spent 2 1st round picks on cornerbacks. Plus they have veteran Deltha O’neal as their 3rd CB. If you want to talk trade talk Julius Peppers or some other D-Lineman be it a tackle or an End. It won’t be for a CB. I for hope Mike Brown gives Ocho the ole UFIA

The challenge in trading CJ is that there are relatively few teams that will want to give up anything for him. If he goes to a team that struggles, his ‘me first’ attitude is going to create a problem - first with the media/fans and ultimately with his teammates. With a winning team, it gets overlooked. So it’s got to be a consistently good team, but not all of them will want to take the risk or have a need for another receiver. Philly would have made sense if not for the TO experience. Seattle might work if they had the cap space. Jacksonville maybe?

“If the Eagles dont jump at the chance to get Johnson, they TO won. He alter a franchises approach and has hurt the potential success of the team.”
Ultimately the Eagles would come to the same result. They would front-load a new contract for Chad Johnson with low base salaries to minimize their risk. After one great season, Chad would realize his base salary in year 2 is really low and would claim he outplayed his contract.
Next thing you know, he would be doing sit-ups in his driveway.

Why should he waste his entire career playing for the Bungles? He did not sign a contract, NFL players don’t have those.
He does not even have the option to opt out. Barry Sanders had 3 or 4 more good years in him, but the Lions refused to let him out of his “contract”. This should be reason enough to allow th owners to get rid of the CBA. The players would really be beter off without it. Rookie free agents and real legally enforcable contracts. Chad should break and just pay the damages, not be banned from his profesion.
