Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appeared Wednesday on The Mike Tirico Show. Ben hadn’t bothered to inspect the team’s schedule for the 2008 regular-season (that would require, like, reading), so Tirico and/or Michele Tafoya ran down the games for him.
Informed of the December 7 visit from the Dallas Cowboys, Roethlisberger made a crack about the whole Tony Romo/Jessica Simpson/Trip To Mexico/That’s My . . . Sniff . . . Quarterback controversy.
“I’m glad they’re coming up here to play us,” Roethlisberger said, via Albert Breer of the Dallas Morning News. “I’m thinking about sending an all-expenses paid trip for Tony [Romo] to go to Mexico.”
Tafoya said in response, “I thought you were going to bring Jessica to you.”
“We could do that too,” Ben replied. “I might just fly her in.”
Though it was clearly said in jest, Roethlisberger is too easy of a target to be making jokes about quarterbacks who create distractions for their teams. Indeed, all Romo has to say in response is, “I’m thinking about sending a motorcycle to Ben, but not a helmet.”

Ben Roethlisberger and Tony Romo:
They’re not the sharpest tools in the shed.
They not the brightest crayons in the box.
They’ve got a few too many unused icons on their desktops.

Talk about a story where there isn’t one. It’s a joke people. They need to lighten up. I don’t think Ben is going to really send him a trip. I don’t think he really wants to fly Jessica Simpson up. The draft needs to hurry up and get here. We need some real football news and quick…

This is going to send Romo to have a solid day against The Steelers and make them pay. I agree with PFT on this one, Ben is an easy target in terms of off-field mistakes.

Yeah, but who has a super bowl ring? Romo has yet to win a playoff game. Give Ben a break, he was clearly joking and you all turned it into news…

Oh cool. Steelers vs Cowboys, maybe we can all watch it on Fox. These two QB’s are a show. Ben is about as intelligent as his motorcycle and Romo is puttin’ a slayin’ a mega hottie. I gotta’ favor Romo.

Florio Throws Stones from his Glass Website
PFT webmaster Mike Florio posted a story Wednesday mocking Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for making jokes about another NFL QB. While clearly the post was written as a light piece Florio shouldn’t be the one to mock other people for mistakes made in the past. Indeed, all someone has to say is “Terry Bradshaw.”

Ben having a Super Bowl ring means nothing. It serves only as a reminder to him that he was the WORST QB to EVER play in a Super Bowl.
Hold your head high, Trent Dilfer. There’s always Big Ben.

all these comments about him being the worst QB ever to play in the big game…hey id rather have that label than the label “QB never to play in the super bowl.” Big Ben got the jitters just like any player does in any big game, he played phenomenal that year to get them to the super bowl. secondly, he bounced back last year after his lousy second year and was playing lights out. so you can say all you want about big ben but he is doing everything without the likes of T.O. and marion the barbarian.
finally…this isn’t really news, ben has always made comments like these which are meant to be a JOKE…since when can’t we as human beings joke around…no matter how famous we may be…Florio you were out of line with the motorcycle comment because its in regards to someones life…have more respect for your respectable site…

I have to laugh at clowns like alansaysyo — talk about your not-so-sharp tools in the shed. All you fools who talk about Roethlisberger fail to realize he STILL FINISHED AS THE LEADING RATED PASSER IN THE ENTIRE PLAYOFFS, Super Bowl included. And that was done with NO RUN SUPPORT, meaning Roethlisberger had to carry the team to the Bowl. If not for Ben, the Steelers never sniff the Super Bowl. Yeah, rocket scientist go compare Ben’s playoff numbers that run with Dilfer’s. Tsk tsk. Stupid fools.
To sum up for your not-so-sharpies: Roethlisberger carried the Steelers to the Super Bowl, with no run support whatsoever. Meanwhile, Tony Romo is still looking for his first playoff win. End of discussion.

Still doesn’t change the fact that Big Ben stunk it up on the big stage or that his team won in spite of him and his 2 INT/~22 passer rating day, and not because of him.

No run support for Fat Ben???
All he throws are screen passes and check downs….those are the same as running plays.
Everything else he throws is a 50/50 ball that Hines Ward has to get blasted to even reach (yet he somehow always does).

Ah, Tex Small Balls, another know-nothing. First of all, Ben has one of the highest YPAs going the last few years — meaning he DOESN’T throw short. Anyone with half a brain who’s actually watched Steeler games knows Ben is a downfield guy through and through.
Secondly, reading genius, I was referring to the playoff run specifically — if you want a lame performance, look up what Parker and Bettis did during the playoff run. See what their per carry average was, if you want a good laugh. Fact is, Roethlisberger carried that offense — if not for his 125 rating games they don’t get to the Bowl and there IS no ring. That’s why Romo can’t carry his jock, Little Balls.
I should start charging you people for the clues.

Actually I saw his Wonderlic score someplace and if memory serves me right it wasn’t bad. 32 sticks in my head. And I agree that he was joking but someone in his position needs to realize how things get blown out of proportion. The man definitly likes to hear himself talk, but I guess that cockiness is also what helps make him.
To say he is the worst Qb to ever play in the Superbowl is ridiculous. Dilfer, Eason, Woodley, Rypien, ODonnell, Chandler…….I’m glad Alansaysyo isn’t picking my personel.

I heard the whole interview, and it was enjoyable to hear an NFL QB — or any NFL player — say something other than the stock “They’re a really good opponent, we’re gonna have to really work hard and stick to our gameplan to beat them” BS. Roethlisberger had a nice rapport going with Tirico and Tafoya, was joking around with them the whole time, and the entire exchange was 100% good natured. It’s actually the first time I’ve had *any* positive feelings about Roethlisberger. I fail to see the issue here. The only way it becomes an issue is if some scumbag reporter digging for a story takes the quote to Tony Romo without providing context.

It is funny how people make statements about individuals they don’t know. Everyone said TB (the real one, Terry Bradshaw) was a stupid farm boy from LA (Louisiana). Big Ben can’t be that dump, he just signed a contract for 102 million bucks. Sounds like his head is right where it needs to be. But really, look at the stats. Roethlisberger has put up some great numbers. He was undefeated his rookie season (until the AFC championship). They were 8-8 his sophomore year and won the Super Bowl. His junior year had three major surgery’s , and last year had a new offensive scheme. We went from run to set up the pass to pass to set up the run. I would rather see him take a sack than throw an INT any day. Don’t worry, Berger has more rings coming his way.
