Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly, whose last workout was the subject of much scrutiny, had another workout today in Norman, Oklahoma.
According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, Kelly ran 40-yard dashes timed at 4.63 seconds and 4.65 seconds “on what the scouts considered to be a fast track.”
Kelly had previously run in 4.68 seconds and 4.75 seconds on what he felt was a slow track.
Today Kelly also did the short shuttle, finishing in 4.15 seconds, the three-cone drill, finishing in 6.83 seconds, and the 225-pound bench press, completing 14 reps.
Brandt reports that three teams — the Browns, Packers and Giants — had representatives on hand. In addition to running the 40, Kelly caught passes from former Nebraska quarterback Eric Crouch, and Brandt reports that he “looked good catching the ball,” grabbing 21 of the 22 catchable passes Crouch threw him.

How many passes did Crouch have to throw to get 22 that were catchable?

So at about the same height and 55lbs. lighter than Shawne Merriman he’s a wide receiver that Merriman could cover deep? Nice!!!!

Man, he continues to screw himself. I’m waiting for the excuses now. Just shut up and see where it leads ya.
So what affiliation does Crouch have with Oklahoma?

Looks like Kelly would have best served his family and himself better by keeping his BIG mouth shut. .5 seconds better? The scouts would have probably added more than that without the retry.

If there were 22 catchable passes, I then assume Crouch threw about 80 passes. His arm will be sore tomorrow.

Slow and 14 reps on the bench? This guy had better book 2 nights in a hotel if he plans on going to New York for the draft…

What’s more surprising…Kelly’s slow speed or Crotch’s “catchable” balls?

Eric Crouch, in an email PR statement, says he threw 22 catchable passes in just 20 attempts.

It’s too bad about the slow 40 times. Still, too much is probably being made of it. I wonder where Malcom Kelly will be drafted.

It had to throw up a red flag in SOMEONE’S thought process that you had Eric Crouch throwing the ball to this guy…am I right or am I right?
I agree with porksoda - 80 pass attempts minimum for 22 catchable…how long was this workout!?!?

If he ran a 4.63 and had a short shuttle of 4.15 there is some serious concern as to how accurate that 40 time is. the majority of players run their short shuttle about 2 tenths faster then their actual forty’s. what this could also mean is that kelly is a great short route runner and good in close space but he wont out run or be a deep threat. 4.15 is a real good short shuttle.

Didn’t Kelly run enough 40s leading up to his personal workout to know he wasn’t going to have a good chance of cracking 4.6? I would hope he had prepared and ran a few timed 40s. Assuming he did, wouldn’t have he been better off simply not running? Choose not to run at the combine, then get an “injury” close to your workout date, do all the other drills, etc.

At least the Redskins weren’t at the workout. I cringe at every mock draft that has them taking him.

The Packers are actually showing interest in someone? I don’t believe it. Of course it’s got to be at the one position that I consider us deepest at.

The dude is a dud. Yeah, I said dud. Per Wikipedia, “A dud is an ammunition round or explosive that fails to fire or detonate, respectively, on time or on command. Duds are still dangerous and have to be de-activated and disposed of carefully. By extension, “dud” has become a slang word for anything that doesn’t work or is defective.” You know where this heading.

It’s not surprising that the Packers were there at all. The whole nation claims that WR is not a position of need for Green Bay, but in a couple years it will be. Driver just turned 33 in February and receivers take a few years to develop. Thompson wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger on a WR if he thinks he’s getting value. Last year, they drafted a DT (Justin Harrell) when everyone said it wasn’t filling a need. Well, Williams left and now the Pack has a second year player ready to fill in the rotation.
