Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer told reporters today that wide receiver Chad Johnson, who is currently skipping voluntary workouts, will be there when mandatory practices begin.
That’s news to Johnson.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network and John Clayton of ESPN both reported today that Johnson responded angrily to Palmer’s comments.
“I’m not sure where Carson got his information from, but I know I didn’t assure him of anything,” Johnson said. “I wish he’d stay out of this. He’s taking how I’m feeling as a joke because I think everyone else in the organization is doing the same.”
Wow. Johnson hasn’t made any secret that he isn’t happy in Cincinnati, but those are some of the strongest comments he’s made about the situation. And he wasn’t done there.
Schefter reports that Johnson also said, “I will not be at any mandatory camp. I will not be at training camp. I will not be anywhere in Cincinnati. . . . This is not a joke. I really don’t want to play for the Bengals. Period.”
Forget the question of whether Johnson will be with the Bengals on the first day of training camp. The real question right now is whether Johnson will still be with the Bengals on the first day of the draft.

Chad may get negative media attention but Randy Moss and TO proves that it’s all about what you have done lately. If he were to get traded everyone will forget soon enough how he cheated his former employers by forcing their hands in accepting sub standard deals.
He just needs to weather the storm like TO and Randy and then everyone will forget and bow down to them.
What’s with WRs these days anyhow?

I love me some Ocho Stinko. Why would you force that man to be a Bungle if he does not want to be.
Let him buy out his contract.
Free Ocho Stinko. He can play here in Harm City. It is a lot more fun to beat the Bungles than play for them.

“Mike Brown may be stubborn, but he wasn’t stubborn enough to hold onto Corey Dillon when he wanted out.”
Corey Dillon was the team’s backup running back; he lost the job to Rudi Johnson. Getting a 2nd round pick for a backup rb with a bad attitude was a great move! Brown could not have played his hand any better.

why is everyone taking the bengals side just put your self in chads shoes for a minute this no different from people striking at gmc or ford or something if your job started making every aspect around you a living hell you would want to leave but why in chad johnsons case he should shut up and play ball football is his lively hood true he gets paid millions to play but people have got to realize he wants to win and the reason they are not winning clearly isn’t chad johnson it is marvin lewis and the bengals front office and the message that they are trying to send is dumb if he dosen’t want to play for you get something out of the deal because it is clear he dosen’t give a damn about money right now and being honest the bengals need chad johnson more than he needs them because houshmanzada is not a clear cut #1 wide out.

If Chad wants out, can he give back the 8.5M that would be applied to the salary cap? If he really wants out, it seems like he could do this. Admittedly, I don’t completely understand the peramiters of these contracts.
It seems like more and more teams suffer at the hands of these overpriced crybabies every year. At what point does the NFL quit making long term contracts?
Sit, Ocho, sit!

I thought at first it would be best to just let him sit out and pout. However, now, despite the cap hit, I think it would be best for the Bengals to just unload him. We should be able to get a first rounder for him. He is obviously going to be a cancer again, calling out Carson in the media does not help matters at all. I say again because it is obvious that he had some sort of physical altercation with Marvin Lewis during halftime of the 2005 playoff game and since then it has been downhill with the guy in the Nati. Get Ocho Stinko and his grill out of here.

I imagine that when the TO/Philly disaster was occurring, Mike Brown convinced himself that playing hardball was the best way to handle such a situation (and the way he would handle it). Unfortunately for Bengal fans, I think he’s going to discover that it’s best just to cut your losses and move on. It’s almost impossible to imagine someone with as much ego and pride as CJ caving in and making a professional effort in 2008 under these circumstances.
I think Chad can repay the portion of his bonus not yet earned (still to hit the cap) as a way to facilitate a deal. I know Ross Verba paid back some bonus money to Cleveland in exchange for his release a few years ago. I would think the same could be done as part of a trade deal. Chad’s going to want a new contract if he gets traded anyway.

Not only did BigMike write a 162 word sentence he doesn’t seem to realize Ocho got two $10+ mil signing bonuses in the last 5 years. Yeah…this is a labor issue alright.
As for you Redskins fans….how happy do you think Chad will be if it’s Todd Collins or Jason Campbell throwing him the ball instead of Carson?
