Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer told reporters today that wide receiver Chad Johnson, who is currently skipping voluntary workouts, will be there when mandatory practices begin.
That’s news to Johnson.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network and John Clayton of ESPN both reported today that Johnson responded angrily to Palmer’s comments.
“I’m not sure where Carson got his information from, but I know I didn’t assure him of anything,” Johnson said. “I wish he’d stay out of this. He’s taking how I’m feeling as a joke because I think everyone else in the organization is doing the same.”
Wow. Johnson hasn’t made any secret that he isn’t happy in Cincinnati, but those are some of the strongest comments he’s made about the situation. And he wasn’t done there.
Schefter reports that Johnson also said, “I will not be at any mandatory camp. I will not be at training camp. I will not be anywhere in Cincinnati. . . . This is not a joke. I really don’t want to play for the Bengals. Period.”
Forget the question of whether Johnson will be with the Bengals on the first day of training camp. The real question right now is whether Johnson will still be with the Bengals on the first day of the draft.

Unfortunately, it is financially impossible to trade Chad. Well, not impossible but it would involve them cutting about 5 players and not being able to sign any draft picks.

i dont know about him being an eagle. As an eagles fan, i would love to see him come to town. But do we really want to risk going through what happened with T.O. again?

This is going to be a long year for Bengals fans. As a huge fan myself and former Chad supporter, I am not looking forward to the mass amounts of negative coverage that will come from this. I felt for Philly fans in ‘05 with TO, and I don’t see it being much different during the pre-season, including Bengals’ front office refusing to deal him. This team can’t afford this kind of distraction, they simply don’t have the winning mentality to overcome it and get ready for a tough beginning of the season.
Chad- get your head on straight. Shut up and play.

Most of us huge Bengals fans are hoping for huge defensive draft & i’d trade 85 in a heartbeat for a chance to get 2 defensive playmakers. Like Sedrick Ellis @ #9 & maybe Kenny Phillips later in the 1st. I would sacrifice Chad to solidify the defense.

This is comedic. Is he twelve years old? Does he really believe he is being mistreated…? Is his biggest compaint that “people” in the orginazation blame him, and him alone for the past two mediocre seasons? Really?. I think his IQ must hover around 71-72. Child, absolute child, and a head case to boot! Im a huge Bengals fan and I would take heavy consideration in trading him to the Lions or some other bull#$%@ team for absolutely nothing but the opportunity to stick it to him twice a year. I think we need Supernanny to save this chump

As a Browns fan, I think I’ll sit back and make a big bowl of popcorn now.
Seriously, I pray the Bengals play hardball with this tool. I feel really sorry for the good Bengals fans. Unfortunately, the organization is reaping what it has sown.

Hey, it only took Corey Dillon 4 years or so to get his wish. So Chad just has 3 1/2 years to go until Mike gets done holding him in Cincy with his current contract & possibly F-tags until he longer has the talent to demand a big contract.
Does anyone know how many years he has left on his current deal? (Sorry if I missed it in past articles)

Guys there is no point in trading Chad. You aren’t going to get equal value. AND with him sitting out you get your money back in fines and retrieving paid signing bonuses that you gave him. I say be stubborn, and let his sorry butt sit out. Show that the inmates don’t run the asylum.

Dallas Fans: Forget about landing Chad, or any top caliber wide receiver for that matter. If Chad (or whoever) was traded the to Girls, he would presumably seek a new (big money) contract. Do you honestly think T.O. is going to sit around quietly while that happens? Or do you think he’d start crying and moaning that HE deserves that money??

Mike Brown may be stubborn, but he wasn’t stubborn enough to hold onto Corey Dillon when he wanted out.

It seems to me that the league has to step into this situation. Perhaps the commissioner needs to have a talk with Mr. Johnson.
No team should have to deal with this situation alone. This type of situation can happen with any team at any time and I believe it is going to take the leadership of the commissioner to resolve this issue.
I do agree with Johnson on one point. Carson needs to stay out of this completely.

This is a farfetched idea, but for the sake of football fans everywhere, especially those who love to see good football being played, why don’t the Pats send their #7 to Cincy, along with some player for Mr. Johnson? Can you imagine watching the Pats play? The NFL would have to change their schedule to put every Pats game on National TV, and demand that they play indoors during December and the playoffs. And this is not coming from a Pats fan.

“CJ and TO??? Not even Jerry’s that stupid!”
Don’t be so sure. Remember this is the guy who wants Pac-Man Jones in Dallas, the city with the most strip clubs in the country.
Imagine that: T.O., Ocho Cinco, Pac-Man Jones, and Jerry Jones. Suddenly The Island of Misfit Toys isn’t just a funny pic of the day anymore.

Time for Dan Snyder to make that big off-season splash it’s no secret the skins want him we have 9 draft picks to work with too Jim Zorn wants a big receiver for his offense why take a chance on a unproven rookie I say trade the 21st pick and a 4th rounder for him everyones happy except for Bengals fans but that’s not in issue to me
OCHO-CINCO IN D.C. FOR ‘08!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s so frustrating to be a Bengals fan. In the 90’s our owner wouldn’t pay for talent in FA. In the 2000’s we continue to suck it up until Marvin comes to town and gives us hope only to have our draft picks turn into the turds they are. Now, our owner finally starts to show an interest in competing and our star player is whining like a little b*%ch!
I hope Mike handles this like his father would, bench him. Either way this season is a waste. If he plays the distraction is too much to overcome. If he sits the distraction is too much to overcome. Trade him and we lose 8 Million.
The only thing that would make this Bengals fan happy is to have Mike and Marvin continue to play tough and at least make a statement by sitting him. Let him cry and do push-ups or sit-ups in the driveway. Chad is nothing more than a little girl. When did it become acceptable to cry and moan when your making millions? Stand up with us NFL fans; it’s the only way to quiet these little girls.

As a die-hard bengals fan I want nothing more than to see this team win, which is something that they have not done more than 50% of the time we have had psycho on the team. He is fast and usually catches the long ball, but don’t expect anything else. Chad’s YAC is pathetic and the tough, contested catches are the exception, not the rule. So go ahead Cowboys, Raiders or whomever, take Mr. Soundbite off of our hands so that we can get a real receiver with reliable hands and a modicum of toughness.
