Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer told reporters today that wide receiver Chad Johnson, who is currently skipping voluntary workouts, will be there when mandatory practices begin.
That’s news to Johnson.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network and John Clayton of ESPN both reported today that Johnson responded angrily to Palmer’s comments.
“I’m not sure where Carson got his information from, but I know I didn’t assure him of anything,” Johnson said. “I wish he’d stay out of this. He’s taking how I’m feeling as a joke because I think everyone else in the organization is doing the same.”
Wow. Johnson hasn’t made any secret that he isn’t happy in Cincinnati, but those are some of the strongest comments he’s made about the situation. And he wasn’t done there.
Schefter reports that Johnson also said, “I will not be at any mandatory camp. I will not be at training camp. I will not be anywhere in Cincinnati. . . . This is not a joke. I really don’t want to play for the Bengals. Period.”
Forget the question of whether Johnson will be with the Bengals on the first day of training camp. The real question right now is whether Johnson will still be with the Bengals on the first day of the draft.

Marvin Lewis: If Chad wants to play pro football, it will be in Cincinnati.
Normally, when coaches talk, you take it with a grain of salt. But Marvin is no Nick Saban. I saw him say it on NFLN, there was iron in his words, and no wiggle room.
This could get interesting. And I own Chad in my dynasty league….

Definately a good receiver, too bad he is such a dillweed. Touraj Houshmandzadeh was the better of the two last year, but it would be much tougher sledding without his attention-seeking counterpart across the way.

Good plan, Chad. Just don’t forget, it’s okay to completely go back on your word when it starts to actually cost you money.

Sounds like Big Red in Philly should stick his nose in there. I think Chad would look great in Eagles green. Trade Lito and a pick or 2 for 85.

I’ve said all along, if we can get a bag of chips in exchange for Chad, let’s do it. A 1st round pick would be a no-brainer…I don’t care about the cap hit. Get him out.

This guy is just a complete ass. I wouldn’t mind him taking the Keyshawn Johnson path and getting suspended by the team. Guys like this just make the NFL look like a joke around the world. This is without a doubt the greatest sport there is on the planet and it has poster child problems. How could you want a turd like him in your locker room? He is only interested in himself and could care less who is around him. I say let him rot in Cincy…at least the media coverage there won’t be as large as if he was in Dallas…

I agree with Johnny H…this guy is such a clown.
Hey PFT: How ’bout an extension of Turd Watch and start up a new one titled: Jag Watch.
5 years from now when he’s pumping gas for a livin’ I want to see Ocho Sucko in that Hall of Fame jacket at the nearest Shell station.

No matter how you spin it, there is still an $8 mil cap hit. Mike Brown is one of the most stubborn owners in football (example being he was only one of two owners that didn’t agree with the CBA last go around….the other being Ralph Wilson who wasn’t bright enough to understand it). I honestly cannot see the Brown family trading Chad, especially since they’re being forced into it. Chad will have to put his money (or potentially lack there of) where his mouth is and sit out the season or retire. What I want to know is if it is possible for a team trading for Chad to be able to pay the Bengals $8mil and incur the cap hit? If that is the case, then a potential trade may be more realistic. Until then, it’s Carl Pickens all over again.

Watch his play from last year, he has lost a step.

Anyone who thinks he won’t be traded is insane.
NFL teams claim they won’t be held hostage, but these players are dealt/dumped every time.

I hope Mike Brown is the most stubborn owner in the league. Because that’s exactly what the NFL needs is someone to tell these a-hole players like Chad and Terrell to shut the heck up and play football.
Otherwise they can sit their complaining asses at the end of the bench and rot.

The Bengals would take a cap hit of about $8.5 million (something like that)if they were to cut or trade him. Mike Brown is one of the cheapest owners in all of football. Basically Chad is going to sit and rot on the bench and be fined for not showing up. Brown might have ignored alot of off the field stuff, but when it comes to that guys money, hes all over it and hes not going to bite the bullet and take that cap hit

As with any other Team you simply cannot have two marquee Receivers in todays NFL. With the Top WR commanding a salary of at least 10 million per year each. I simply don’t see how the Cowboys could trade for Chad and Financially get away with prospering in other positions on that team.
I really don’t think that Chad is going anywhere this year. Due to the cap hit that the Bengals would endure because of the trade. Which sucks for the Bengals who will enjoy yet another year not sniffing the playoffs due to the disruption 85 will cause.

This sucks. Chad used to make it fun to be a bengals fan and now he’s ruined it. On top of it all he’s throwing Palmer under the bus, an all time low even for him…yeah, classy.
I’ve been a bengals fan my whole life…he’s not going anywhere. I don’t even think Brown would trade him for “equal value.” Hooray, we’ve got a full blown cancer…

Sure, as fans we would like to see the owner stick it to Chad. But even if the owner wants to, at what time do Bengal players express frustration having him around? The press will also demand how sitting him is helping a team with veterans at the QB, RB, and WR position whose window of opportunity is now. The fans will get restless, boo, not buy tickets.
In the end, it seems like a no-brainer to take a 1st rounder for this guy. Even if he plays, how much does he help the team win when you factor in everything?
Teams that might want Chad and have a mid-low 1st round pick: Seattle (west coast guy, small window in Seattle), Minnesota (doubt coach wants to deal with it, but imagine pairing him with AP), Tampa Bay (Gruden always willing to take on O players), Indianapolis (??whoa), Washington could use him, though I doubt Zorn wants that his 1st year.

“It’s a crucial 3rd and 7 for the Bengals in this important mid-season game here in Pittsburgh. A minute twenty left on the clock, and the Bengals are down 4 points. Palmer and the Bengals break the huddle and get set at the 23-yard line. Palmer is reading the defense, and…oh no! Chad Johnson with the off-sides penalty! Talk about a momentum killer. Now it’s 3rd and 12! And why is Johnson smiling?”

It will never happen, but how sweet would it be if all the other owners issued a statement that contracts are legally binding documents (which they are everywhere but in the NFL) and thus they have no interest, nor will they make attempts to get Chad until and unless the Bengals approach them. Unfortunately, that’s the only way this kind of crap will ever stop. I wonder how long the Cowboys can manage to be the life preserver for every idiot in the NFL. At some point, they will go one turd too far. It will be fun to watch the implosion when it happens.

The Vikings should trade Bryant McKinnie to the team he was born to play for. He is just wasting away on J.V. here in Minnesota. Has he not proven his skills for anti-social behavior? We could get a pain in the butt receiver in return. We have experience handling a player like that and Chili has dealt with the worst in T.O. Send Bryant McKinnie “home”!
