Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer told reporters today that wide receiver Chad Johnson, who is currently skipping voluntary workouts, will be there when mandatory practices begin.
That’s news to Johnson.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network and John Clayton of ESPN both reported today that Johnson responded angrily to Palmer’s comments.
“I’m not sure where Carson got his information from, but I know I didn’t assure him of anything,” Johnson said. “I wish he’d stay out of this. He’s taking how I’m feeling as a joke because I think everyone else in the organization is doing the same.”
Wow. Johnson hasn’t made any secret that he isn’t happy in Cincinnati, but those are some of the strongest comments he’s made about the situation. And he wasn’t done there.
Schefter reports that Johnson also said, “I will not be at any mandatory camp. I will not be at training camp. I will not be anywhere in Cincinnati. . . . This is not a joke. I really don’t want to play for the Bengals. Period.”
Forget the question of whether Johnson will be with the Bengals on the first day of training camp. The real question right now is whether Johnson will still be with the Bengals on the first day of the draft.

Nice time for Jerry Jones to dangle a 1st round pick at Cincinnatti?
If he’s interested in Pacman, I don’t see why Chad wouldn’t enter his thoughts. Imagine the buzz, sales, advertising, and talent increase.

Up until this off-season I was a Johnson fan. He was kind of loud and obnoxious, but he was funny and didn’t get into any real trouble.
But now he is fast approaching the level of respect I give to T.O., which is basically none.
Why is it so hard for these guys to shut up and play football?

I love how Chad acts like Carson is lying. Who would you believe?
As a Bengal fan, part of me would like to let him just sit there and rot and part of me just wants him off the team despite the large salary cap hit and hole it would leave at Wide Receiver.
He could be fighting a losing battle. Corey Dillon and Carl Pickens tried this to no avail for years. Chad just sounds like more of a pansy when he does it.

The NFL should enforce a rule about this. Teams should NOT be the one being penalized when players want to leave. It is sad that a team pays a player millions of dollars and when they want to leave they throw everyone under the bus, so they get traded. It is BAD BAD business. I like Chad as a player but it should be handled in a professional way. I am a Raiders fan and would love to have his tallent on our roster, but I would rather WIN games with WINNERS not WHINERS.

Someone remind Chad that he fails as a human being. However, he’s a pretty solid WR.

As much as I would like to see Cincinnati make stinky sit, He will just sit until week 10 and then agree to play and be a distraction. I think they should trade him.

I’d take a 1st rounder for him. As a Bengal fan that would be great. But what about the $8 million cap hit if they do trade him? Then what? No money to spend.
He’s gone from hero to villain in my eyes rather quickly. It’s time for him to take his a**-clown act on the road and out of Cincy.

Don’t even think about the Cowboys. Gold Grills and Blonde mowhawks go better in with the Washington Redskins montra. It is a color clash with the Blur and Silver. SO keep those Gold Chompers along with your big mouth somewhere else.

If I’m the Bengals, I’ll trade him (now, tomorrow, next month, whenever) for a 1st round pick (even a 1st rounder in 2009). But short of that, if he doesn’t show up, I pull a Gruden and put him on the practice squad (or whatever) and not allow him to play until he grows up. It’s the only good way, in my opinion, for NFL teams to deal with malcontents like Johnson (who, until this episode of “trade me!”, I had nothing but respect for). Giving in an getting less-than-equal value for his talents in a trade is neither in the Bengal’s best interest, nor in the interests of other teams.

Mike Brown mike be the most stubburn owner in football. Mike Brown is not gonna trade Chad unless he gets Equal value in return. 1 unproven first round pick wont get Mike Brown to give up Chad.

Mike Brown is not gonna trade Chad unless he gets equal value. 1 late first round pick for a top 5 wr in the nfl is not equal value. Chad is not going anywhere. Mike Brown is probly the most stubburn nfl own in football.

F this guy. Do not accept any trade offer. It’s time that teams start stepping up and playing hard ball. If he wants to sit, let him sit, but he shouldn’t be the one commanding where he goes. I’m sure he’s gonna love those fines, and oh maybe a little signing bonus retrieval. Keep talking Chad, it’s not gettting you anywhere.

Ocho Stinko is just as selfish as T.O. I hope the Bengals trade him ASAP. The longer he’s affiliated with the team, the more damage he will do.
It’s best for both parties to get rid of Stinko.

I would have the ultimate respect and admirtation for Marvin Lewis if he does indeed stick to his guns and let Chad play for Cincinatti or nowhere. Dude is locked up for FOUR more entire seasons. I can’t see Chad sitting out that long. I think it would be worth giving up whatever draft pick the Bengals could get for him to send across that message, though thats easy for me to say cause I’m not Bengal fan that would appreciate that draft pick.

this is just the next step in the Terrell Owens “How to force a trade”.
1. express your desire to play for a winner (even though he’s a cause of the recent failure of the team)
2. blame anyone but yourself for your actions
3. skip the “voluntary” mini camp
4. throw your franchise quarterback under the bus
5. demand to be traded
