Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett is staying away from the team’s offseason workouts because he wants a new deal.
The team says he’s not gonna get one.
“I’m not sure what the issue is with him because we addressed Darnell’s contract early,” V.P. of football operations Rod Graves said Wednesday, “and we did so in December of ‘06. He signed what amounts to a five-year deal and he’s only played one year into it.
“I recognize him as being a very good football player who was in position to go to the Pro Bowl last year as an alternate, which I think is a big achievement,” Graves said. “But at this point, he has four years remaining on his current deal. I don’t believe this is the time to address a new deal.”

I bet this caught the Card’s front office a bit off guard seeings how he is barely into the new contract that he agreed to. If he thinks it’s a raw deal, maybe he ought to man up and kick his own butt for making his own big boy decision and agreeing to the contract graciously offered to him.

Maybe Dockett should go get a real job and see just how good he has it

As they look to make changes in the new CBA they need to look into making a rule that you can’t renegotiate a contract until there is only a year left on the one you signed. This is ridiculous. Players complain that they want a long term deal for the security but then complain a year or two after they sign it because someone else got paid more than them. They can’t have it both ways!
