Though the agent for Tennessee Titans cornerback Pacman Jones recently said that he plans to apply on Tuesday for reinstatement, Jones said on Tuesday that he’ll wait to formally request reinstatement until he is traded.
Jones made the disclosure during his second appearance on Michael Irvin’s radio show in Dallas.
During the appearance, Jones also addressed the status of trade talks between the Titans and the Cowboys. “I’m hoping it will be done this week, but that’s just agent talk,” Jones said. ”We’ll see how it goes and I’ll be tuning in and I’m going back to my house and get in front of the TV and hope it will get done today.”
Maybe Pacman will celebrate by swinging on the pole that he supposedly has installed in his home.
In our view, Jones shouldn’t apply for reinstatement at all, unless and until invited to do so by Commissioner Roger Goodell. The Commish has made it clear that he’s going to reinstate Pacman when he’s damn good and ready to do so; filing a formal request for reinstatement won’t make it any more likely that Goodell will let Jones play.
Some league insiders think that Jones will never be reinstated. But we can’t imagine the Cowboys trading for the guy without at least an inkling that he’ll get another chance to play.

I don’t think that this is the right forum for this discussion. The subject is related to Pac Man.
To be brief; no celebrity has the right to believe that they are due special treatment because of their status.
Fair enough?

Nobody has the right to believe that they’re due special treatment, VegasChris, but it happens a lot for celebs, and it’s not always to the advantage of the celebrity. Michael Irvin’s celebrity status cost him more than the average person as well as the average NFL player when he got in trouble. 800 hours of community service, $10,000 fine, and 4 years probation for a crime he was never legally convicted of. Then a 5 game suspension, with the extra game thrown in because he “serves as a highly visible symbol of the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL and an unusually prominent example for good and for bad for young people”.
I don’t know that Pacman has received or expects special treatment. Hell, Leonard Little straight up killed a woman and he only got an 8 game suspension. Haynesworth only got a 5 game suspension for attempting to kill or at least maim another player in full view on national TV.

I’m loving it! Keep arguing about PacTurd. My wish is that PacTurd will be re-instated and signs with the Cowboys. Think about it….New city…new money….new strip clubs….new women….new cops waiting…T.O’s ego…Michael Irvin…media pressure…PacTurd is going to implode. Can’t wait for the Cowboys to follow! Not a “hater” (hate that word) but a realist. I wish PacTurd the best but expect the worst.

I remember defending Pacman to “give him a chance” when he was being booed by Titans fans in their own stadium. I’ve always recognized his potential and have hoped that he would shape up but he has disappointed me, his team and many others time and time again. I’m done with any more “chances” and simply look forward to him being gone. If the Cowboys think that they can take him in and reform him, they are in for eventual disappointment too. The guy has proven even to this day through his interviews and comments that he doesn’t get it. Very sad.

I applaud cowboysdw28mb3 and Vox Veritas. They are making well reasoned arguments in the face of overwhelming criticism. It seems many people want Pacman banished because he “just doesn’t get it” or he has had plenty of “2d chances.” I enjoy watching good players play football. He is an excellent player. He is not a role model. If he is not imprisoned, so what. You will cheer for Ray Lewis and Leonard Little yet their “encounters” involved death.
Pacman was suspended for a few probation violations, minor offenses, and the like. (As of yet, I am unaware of any criminal or civil liability connecting Pacman to the paralyzed bouncer). Tank Johnson was imprisoned! He was suspended for part of a season. How are the Commissioner imposed penalties fair?
A major problem with this rule is that the Commissioner has complete, absolute, unreviewable discretion. It is a bad rule. The Union fell asleep at the wheel and did not represent its members as it should have. This must be addressed in the next CBA.
If the Titans do not like Pacman, someone else may. The Commissioner serves at the pleasure of the owners. The Commissioner has no financial investment at risk. If the Owners want the player, he should be allowed to play.
If you believe the NFL is bad because of “thugs,” I humbly submit that Pacman does not represent the NFL, he only represents Pacman.
Reinstate Pacman.

Hey VegasChris. He’s a dumbass that acts compulsively in tense situations. Maybe I missed something but I haven’t seen where he’s been getting special treatment. In fact, for him to not get special treatment through so much crap and still expect it would make him something worse than a dumbass. I don’t think he expects special treatment. I think he just doesn’t put much thought into what he does and the potential penalties involved, not unlike the way that most scofflaws think. How many people commit crimes with the idea that they’re going to get busted and have to pay for their crimes?

I’m actually shocked by some well written opinions, from whom I can only surmise are well educated people. Specifically, “If the Owners want the player, he should be allowed to play.” Are you serious? If some owner still wanted to suit-up Rae Carruth (convicted of murder) should he be allowed to play? Where do you draw the line?
Playing in the NFL is a privilege; if you violate the simple rules (a.k.a those of basic human decency and society) then you should forfeit your right to play professional football in the NFL. Giving someone a free pass just because he can run fast, and isn’t afraid of contact, isn’t enough reason to make that man immune from our law. If anyone who carried a shovel, sat at a desk, or did anything that didn’t involve chasing an air-filled pigskin for a living were convicted of Pacman’s crimes he/she would have been dismissed for cause long ago.
End of discussion.

OK, I hate to be a jerk, but this is like the third story where I’ve heard Bubba say a great resource Jerrah Jones is to the league and how much of a Father Flannigan he is to the troubled youth of the NFL, and how we are somehow all better for having Jerrah in our lives.
Now as far as the Pacman and the Boys? Who the hell knows with Jerrah. By the way, has the Pacman shown anywhere near the amount of potential as his hype is worth? I mean, hell, if he was named Q-bert
Smith, would he be more or less attractive to dreadlock afficianados?

Alright VegasChris, you’re probably right this isn’t the right forum for where this was potentially heading, but we were still on the Pacman topic. And Mini Ditka…thank you for the support man, it’s appreciated. And I’m speaking on behalf of Vox Veritas I’m sure. It’s not easy to defend a guy when so many people disagree with you, especially the fact he has been in so much trouble in the past, they’ll try to find anything wrong with what you say. So again Ditka, I appreciate the support.

mrf47,
Rae Carruth is imprisoned. Pacman is not. I let the business owner draw the line. If you don’t like it, don’t watch. Of course, you can argue that Goodell is merely an extension of the collective owner, therefore, the owners have agreed not to hire Pacman. I believe that Goodell has exceeded his authority and the Union chose to sit on its hands because the Pacman case has “bad facts.” I’d rather watch Pacman play CB and return kicks. He is an exciting player. When Mike Vick gets out, he should be allowed to play. An owner will make a business decision. Some will like it, some will not. I imagine PETA will make Mike Vick’s life difficult. You should start a group called “People for the Ethical Treatment of Strippers” and protest at every game where Pacman plays. Too bad strippers are not as sexy as dogs. A stripper doesn’t get the common person’s blood flowing like a dog does.
Once again my point will always be that Pacman has been accused of many things, convicted of a few minor items, and has been suspended from the NFL for over a year even though he has never been imprisoned. Tank Johnson played after his prison term. I live in a world where prison is worse than not being in prison. If our legal system says Tank is worse than Pacman, than I agree. Tank’s suspension should have been worse than Pacman’s. Haynesworth committed battery. All evidence was available. Gurode’s consent is not needed to prosecute. Metal cleats to the head is worse than spit in a girl’s hair. Goodell has too much power in this area and he wields his power in an inconsistent manner.
I’d like to be Pac’s agent.
You state that “playing in the NFL is a privilege.”

It amazes me that anyone can defend this criminal…for Bubba…I’d hardly say that Jerry Jones has a proven record with Tank Johnson when Johnson was on the roster for half a season…for those that talk about a second chance for this turd…have you not been paying attention? He’s had multiple chances! And to the argument that he might feel people have given up on him…SO WHAT? WE HAVE!
