In the wake of then news that Chargers linebacker Stephen Cooper has been suspended four games for violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy, several readers have pointed out to is that this isn’t Cooper’s first problem with drugs.
In 2002, Cooper was found in possession of a thousand steroids pills.
A freaking thousand.
He later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges, and said that he planned to use the pills to get ready for the NFL draft.
Amazingly, he wasn’t charged with intent to distribute. Because he persuaded authorities that he planned to take all of them. All thousand of them.
Maybe, in hindsight, Cooper is the guy who spiked Shawne Merriman’s supplements. (We’re joking. We think.)

when is the league going to start handing out season-long suspensions for steroids? Cheating is WRONG. Merry-man should be out of the league, as should any of these cheating turds.

I think it goes back further. I’ve been saying all along that Junior Seau will turn out to be the Jose Conseco of the NFL. The link between the Chargers team and steroid use is obvious, and the guy is 40 going on 30 years old. Something is up.

no need to joke, as a charger fan, cooper probably settled outside of court with merriman once lights out figured out that tracking down the tainted supplement supplier was not only on his team, but a fellow linebacking friend of his.

Where on earth do you believe that Seau did/does steriods? So because someone takes care of himself and works hard at it, you immediately assume he cheated huh? Nation full of haters.

From reading the book about Bonds and Canseco’s book called Juiced, most of these steroids pill need to be taken in doses of 5-7 pills. So that is 150-200 doses which is a 6 month to 1 year supply depending on how often he does it. That’s probably how he beat the distribution chage but if he took all that in such a short period of time, goodbye liver! Most of these guys use the injectable steroids because the pills are so rough on the liver

Most of you posters have no clue! 1,000 pills for an 8-week cycle, that’s less than 20 a day. I’m no expert on steroid (or ’steroids’ use if I were Florio)use but I’m pretty sure a guy has to take many pills a day to achieve the affect they are looking for.
Furthermore, how many of you can honestly say that if you were very close to realizing your dream of playing professional football or baseball and you were told that EVERYBODY used steroids and you knew the difference between you making millions of dollars and having to work in the real world was by increasing your athletic testing numbers, 99% of you guys would do the exact same thing. Steroid use is stupid, specifically for personal use, but if I had the opportunity to make the money and have the prestige of a professional athlete playing a sport I love, I would use steroids, too.

As a Charger fan, I have no problem with a season long suspension, if not longer, for any Charger player that has violated the substance-abuse policy. It wouldn’t even bother me if the Chargers cut the player from the team.
How many of the fans of other teams would be willing to go that far? It is amazing to me how so many fans seem to want to have the maximum penalty for players that are on teams they are not a fan of, but when suspensions happen to a player or on a team that they like, then all I seem to hear is the everybody does it defense.

Wow. I guess reading is not popular anymore. Stephen Cooper was using Ephedra, a weight loss supplement. It is a Banned Substance, but not a Steroid like most of you are hoping for.
And yes, he took steroids in the past. But the past is the past and it hasn’t happened again. Those diet pills will get you!
Get a Life.

People need to put the haterade down and try reading the facts before labelling an entire team. It was Ephedra, yes embarassing, but not steroids. As of now, only 1 Charger while a Charger has tested positive for steroids in the teams history. And since that 1 guy is a superstar and not Matt lehr, Shaun Rodgers, etc., you hear about it waaaaaay more. Merrimen can’t do anything without steroids being mentioned and we’ll hear about it until the day he dies. I’m not asking for sympathy for Merrimen, but judging by some of these posts, you would think that everyone in the city of San Diego is on steroids. What Cooper did was stupid, but just piling on an entire orginazation for steroids is not exactly a fair reaction. But hey, talking Sh*t as a fan doesn’t usually involve thinking.
