When he said that he’d let the team know whether he’d be retiring before the draft, maybe Giants defensive end Michael Strahan was referring to the 2009 draft.
As it now stands, it’s unlikely that Strahan will make a decision — or share it with the team — before April 26, the first day of this year’s draft.
According to published reports, Strahan met with G.M. Jerry Reese last week, and Strahan has not yet decided whether he’ll return for another season.
His willingness to play might be connected to the team’s willingness to pay. Though there were rumblings about Strahan getting a new deal in March, March has come and gone, with no new contract for Strahan.

Strahan will be back for another year. What else is he going to do for money, sell the space between his teeth to store goods?

He should go out now after winning the superbowl. I wouldn’t mind him taking Tony Siragusa’s job. Nobody enjoys Tony…nobody.

Strahan is a joke. A hell of a player, yes but does anyone want to deal with his lack of commitment to a team. If the Giants draft a DE high, he would probably be upset and claim they are pushing him out the door but they need to look after the best interest of the team, especially since Strahan won’t. For the record, I am an Eagles fan but I, for once, am not bashing the Giants. If he was an Eagle, i would feel the same way. He either needs to make a commitment to that team or the team needs to plan for life without him. If he cannot commit to the team, why should they invest the big money he wants and commit to him?
F Strahan!

I get the impression that Strahan simply does not want to participate in training camp, and that he will “hold out” for as long as possible, just as he did last year. And, I think that management is on board with his strategy. He probably just to prolong his career (and ability to make money in lieu of his divorce) by avoiding injury, especially senseless ones incurred during training camp. It would be inappropriate for the coach or front office to publicly approve of a player sitting out of camp just to avoid injury, because it would set an awful precedent for younger players on the Giants and around the league. And really, what does Strahan (or the team) stand to benefit by him risking his ability to endure the season by attending camp, other than setting an example for his teammates.

He’ll be back, same ol strahan, playing hard ball. He needs the money. If he wasn’t such a great player I’d say kick him to the curb already

It seems the Giants are well positioned regardless of what Strahan does. He is obviously an asset to the team as a player, but it’s not like the Giants don’t have other options at this point.

If he quits right now he might still be able to get over to NBC in time to call Men’s Diving for the Olympics.

Two Words….Justin Tuck. He dominated the Pats line in the superbowl and got a fat payday because of it. Is that not a message enough to Strahan that they’re not overly bothered if he returns or not?

I think it’s a 99% cetainty the big Mike misses most of camp.
He’s probaly got his “I’m gonna retire, I think” speeches still laying around somewhere.
He can do what he wants, & camp Coughlin (although new and improved) is a thing he feels like doin’.
