As the agent for Michigan tackle Jake Long continues to negotiate with the Miami Dolphins regarding the possibility of working out a contract before the time comes for the Dolphins to make their pick, there’s a report that Jake isn’t all that juiced about playing for the Fins.
John Czarnecki of FOXSports.com reports that “[t]he word on the street” is that Long doesn’t want to play in Miami. But talks are continuing between the team and Long’s agent because of the “special honor” of being the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. (Yeah, those Steve Emtman rookie cards are going for about 100 . . . yen.)
Czarnecki says that, if/when the talks with Jake Long break down, the Fins won’t move on to defensive end Chris Long. The Virginia product, the son of Hall of Famer Howie Long, has been presumed for several months to have the inside track because he’s the safest pick on the board.
The Fins apparently then would look after Jake Long to defensive end/linebacker Vernon Gholston. With talk of Gholston slipping in the eyes of other teams, he’d be very wise to take the best deal he can get, if/when he gets an opportunity to negotiate with the Fins.

Trade the pick to Dallas for one of their number 1’s, and a second round pick. Let them take and pay McFadden.

Even if he doesnt want to play for them, he can be known as the cornerstone that help saved the franchise like Jon Ogden is to the Ravens.

Here’s an idea: how about NOT trading that pick to Dallas for our picks to take McFadden! No, no, NO. The Cowboys are NOT going to trade for the number one pick so everybody FORGET IT.

Funny how a story comes out one day about how the Dolphins want him to take less $$$, then this story comes out…
The next one will be about how they agreed to a deal.

So they wanna play media games with Parcells? Good luck with that. Chris Long a safer choice anyway if we can’t trade the #1 pick.

“Word on the street”…in other words, the agent for a player competing with Jake Long to be #1, or the GM for a team that really really really wants him and knows they have no chance as it stands now.

It sure would suck to have to be the number one pick, live in Florida, and be on a team run by Bill Parcells.
Jake is definitely making the right call there.

With the “NEW” pick compensation sheet, Dallas’ 2 first rounders are worth 1690, and the 1st pick is worth 2000, Dallas would need to throw in their 2nd rounder also, to make it work. Let’s see, based on recent rumors and radio talkshow statements, T.O., Chad Johnson, Chris Henry, PacMan, and Mcfadden all on the same team……HMMM….. I wonder if the “White House” is available for them to rent. I smell a reality TV show here. Pole dancing in the basement, living room and upstairs, Bar fights galore, and T.O. and Chad having sit-up contests on the front lawn. And everytime there is an arrest, T.O. cand make a crying public statement defending his poor misunderstood MULTI-MILLIONARE teammate.

Under the new trade chart, Dallas would have to give up both their 1st round picks and a second rounder to get close. For Miami, if they’re presented that offer, they should totally take it, that would really help with rebuilding a team.

Forget Jake. I’m tired of all these damn athletes making demands about who they want to play for and where they will play. It’s called the draft for a reason. if Jake L. is this picky it might be an indicator for future problems anyway. Lets get a player like Golston then watch Jake complain about loosing money after he falls out of the top 3.

I would not want to play for that ogre Parcells anyway. I love how when he hits on a pick, He is a genius and when he wiffs, it was a committee decision. I am not so sure he was as great for Dallas as everyone makes him out. They were Handcuffed with the salary cap before he got here and were freed of it right before he got here. Campo got the Shaft. He missed on as many as he hit. Lets see… Whal, younger and better or Riverra Older and declining… Lets pay Riverra more than Wahl… Winfield or Henry, I would not pay winfield money to a corner, oh lets give Henry 12 months later more… Roy Williams’ fat contract, Peterman(3) and Rogers(2), Julius or Steven Jackson, He wanted Merriman over Ware (I know Merriman is as good, but baggage wise, not close) Not even giving TO a chance (Not even calling him by his name) Bobby Carpenter (1) Forcing a 3-4 when the 4-3 was the 3rd ranked D in 04, No star on the helmet for Rooks (Childish) and just the overall disrespect for the fan. He is A Rick with A P. I assume he has one. He just can’t see it. Screw Parcells

God I hope he ends up in Buffalo Oakland or Detroit. He will spend his life wishing he was a Dolphin. Let’s filet this bastage!
How dare he? Diss the Mighty Fins? Maybe the Lions can draft him and he can stay up there…
Seriously though, if he doesn’t want to be a Dolphin, SCREW HIM.

If he doesnt want to be a dolphin what team does he want to land on? Sounds kinda lame if you ask me, your a potential 1st pick of a draft and your whining?
Sounds to me he doesnt want to deal with a strict O Line coach

That is weird, is he scared to play under Bill Parcels if this in fact is the case. I am sure Bill will get this team back on track after 3 or 4 years and Long could be a major contributor to that. Also Miami is a pretty good place to live and play your career, good weather, women, alot of stuff to do there.

Why would’nt any young football player, not be excited to go play under an organization that has Bill Parcells calling the shots. Any team who hires Bill, has a desire to bring the franchise back to the top. It could be alot worse, he could go play for Matt Millen, and the Lions. A failed venture that they continue to roll with.
