Discussing his plans for the 2008 season, Saints running back Reggie Bush tells the Baton Rouge Advocate, “I’ve got to get the crowd chanting MVP.”
At this point, getting the crowd chanting “competent NFL running back” would suffice.
As he enters his third season in the NFL, Bush has been a disappointment in New Orleans, and if any other running back who had never even had a 600-yard rushing season were talking about becoming the league MVP, everyone would laugh at him. But Bush came into the league with such fanfare that he’s a star, even if his production doesn’t warrant it.
Bush says he can have a greater impact in 2008 than he had in 2007 because he’ll be healthier.
“Last season I was injured more than I had ever been injured in my whole career,” Bush said. “It was hard to stay on top of staying explosive and strong in the weight room when you’re constantly rehabbing every week.”
Bush had better be both healthier and more productive this season. Right now he looks less like an MVP than like a bust.

I don’t think it’s too far fetched for the crowd in New Orleans to chant “MVP” in 2008. The Saints do play the Patriots, right?

Maybe he should just shut up and play. I can’t believe the endorsements this guy has received for doing so little on the field.

Before they can chant MVP, shouldn’t they chant 4.0 YPC?

Reggie Bush is the only running back I’ve seen that can make a ten yard gain into a three.

I hope he’s saving all the money he’s making. I’m guessing his second contract won’t be nearly as impressive, and eventually the ads are going to die out.

I bet Reggie can get an extra hundred yards this season just by deciding to, you know, stop running backwards.

He could be the MVP…I’m not exactly sure how, he would need Colston to have a great year, and a downhill runner to scare defenses off of him…
I fully believe that in the right situation, with a bit more experience, Bush could be a great contributor to the Saints team as a receiver/rusher/returnman…but never as just one of the three. That being said, if he can be a top returnman, catch 70+ balls for 600+ or so yards and rush for another 700+ yards he could be a candidate. This, of course, is under the assumption that he actually finds the endzone a total of 10 or more times. To do this he would need a productive Colston, Duece/Pierre providing an inside threat, and hopefully Henderson stretching the field. While all of these at once sounds a bit far-fetched, if Bush is holding up his end of the bargain than all of these rolls become dramatically easier. We shall see…I said I believe ha CAN do it, not that he WILL do it.
Also, hometown fans chanting “M-V-P” does not mean he’s having an MVP calibre season, it just means he’s doing a great job for the biased hometown fans…

Yes Reggie……I love when they shout my name!
This is not surprising is it?
He was a good college player surrounded by other good players and that’s it. Houston made the right choice by passing on him with the 1st pick. If you look hard at his college career, he was defined by a handful of ESPN highlights and that’s it. Not even in college was he able to carry the load by himself. He was more a product of an offense with the likes of Leinart, Jarret, Smith, White etc.
He is at best a change of pace back.

Mike Williams, Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, Dwayne Jarrett. Just some of the boys Pete Carroll helped mould into “men”.
Who knew that StayPuff, excuse me, LenDale White, would be far and away the only star from that offense.

Funny how everyone (myself included) critized the hell out of Houston for drafting a DE when Bush and Young were available. Looking like a pretty darn good decision now.
In response to Kurtis’s post, the only guy we can call a bust from that list is Williams. Leinart needs a year or two of having the QB job just his, Bush could bounce back from a disappointing year and build on his impressive rookie year, and Jarrett needs two more years at a position that everyone agrees takes usually three years to master.

This is his request?
He should wipe Mario Williams’ ass first. Then gain over 600 yards. Then we’ll see.
For real though he does have the potential; hopefully for his sake he can quiet the skepticism, but if he can’t be durable or run up the middle, then he’s in a lot of trouble.

Not sure what you guys expect of Reggie. All these negative comments because the guy says he wants to have a great season and give the hometown crowd something to cheer for??? I guess you’d prefer he quit and move to oblivion like Ryan Leaf? He is saying exactly would he should say and he’s going to continue to develop his game.
Sorry folks I dont see anything wrong with this.
