I'll take Marv Albert over Kenny Albert but I wouldn't want either to do my kid's pop warner game on Local 10. Tom Hammond is solid and has done NFL before.

What's with the dissing of Marv Albert? He might the best announcer of all time -- at the very least one of the bests of all time. And, the NFL has announcers that lack in quality, big time.

Are you guys crazy?

Harry Kalas should do the NFL Network games - he already does voiceover work for them and does NFL games on the radio.

I'd rather have Marv Albert than most guys already on NFL Network.

Tom Hammond wouldn't be all that bad. Pat Summerall would be decent, since it's only 8 or so games. Sam Rosen would be ok.

I have a Browns/Steelers tape from the mid 90's with Hammond/Collinsworth. It's very watchable.

I'm also racking my brain on some of the younger guys, people like a Thom Brennaman or Ian Eagle, but it's not coming together for me right now.

There's only one problem with the Cowboys trying to obtain Roy Williams, there's another team in their division that has more to offer and is dying for a WR more the the Cowboys. The Eagles could send a 2 time pro bowl corner and a 2nd rder. Then again Millen is an idiot so any deal is possible!

Hiring Gumbel in the first place was a mistake. NFLN needs to save face with his replacement. Marv Alberts is a retread that would be no better than Paul McGuire or Dan Dierdorf (who have the collective wisdom of a kindergarten class). I pretty much expect to be disappointed with whoever they put in there. Chances are it will be just another hack or wannabe to provide another season of obvious and toothless commentary.

no thanks on marv albert.

why do we have to have all these guys that don't give a crap (or know anything) about football?

I cannot abide another Joe Buck, even though I am far more fond of Albert.

The story about this year being a "weak crop" at safety is off-base. First of all, the NFL draft is a crap shoot, and you simply cannot judge a football players intangibles and ability to perform at the next level based only on his testing results. Further, why is DeCosta from the Ravens an "expert" on safeties. Player Personnel Directors and Pro Personnel Directors have proven themselves to be no more skilled at assessing talent as coaches are. For every player that pans out in the NFL based on where he is drafted, there are two players that flopped.

DeCosta fails to mention Caleb Campbell from Army, who in my opinion is probably going to be the guy who actually makes the biggest impact in 2008. Consider this: he is by far the biggest safety in this year's group at 6'2, 229 lbs. He has 4.5 speed, and threw up 24 reps of 225 at the combine. He is a vicious hitter, and is one of only a handful of 4-year starters in the 117-year history of Army football. He's their 10th all-time leading tackler, and is extremely intelligent.

He doesn't even garner a mention by DeCosta, and 'expert'?

Here's a guy who should be on the radar based on his performance on the field, in the testing area, and off the field based on his intelligence, character, etc.

And people wonder how guys "slip" through the cracks...

Finally Gholston is receiving some due criticism. He should not be anywhere near a Top 3 pick, let alone Top 5. In fact, every 1st round rated DE is severely over-rated this year. Long is good, but isn't Top 1-3 pick good. Gholston is way over-rated due to his measurables, and the rest of the bunch are strong in one area (pass rushing or base end skills) and weak in the other, making them unlikely to be efficient three-down DE's.

Gotta love life. You know what would be more satisfying than these YouTube clipings? Marv Albert calling NFL games. Yes!!!!!!!! (Trying not to think of his bite marks in a woman's back.)
