Just when it appeared that the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans wouldn’t be able to strike a deal regarding a trade for cornerback Pacman Jones, it now appears that the two teams are once again working toward getting it done.
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, a trade finally could be in place by Tuesday.
Per Schefter, the Cowboys had been offering a sixth-round pick, but the Titans had been holding out for a fourth-rounder. The ‘Boys also wanted to recover a pick from the Titans in the future if Pacman were to get in trouble while in Texas.
Our wild guess is that the final deal will be for a fifth-rounder. Or maybe a sixth-rounder in 2008 and a conditional pick in 2009.
None of this means that Jones will be reinstated by the league. If, however, Jones’ rights are held by a more powerful and influential owner like Jerry Jones, there might as a practical matter be more pressure on the league officer to let Pacman play again.

No offense to some of the owners, But Jerry should have earned a little lattitude when it comes to vouging for a troubled player. He has the infrastructure in place to help counsel and manage thugs like Pacman. He has also done a ton for this league. I would think that would be taking into account. That said, one slip up by PACCRAP, and he should never be allowed back.

No offense to bubba, but I don’t care how much Jerry Jones has done “for the League” (really, for himself). Pacman’s suspension ought not to have anything to do with a team that trades for him and everything to do what with what is a just punishment for his misdeeds.
As far as “The ‘Boys also wanted to recover a pick from the Titans in the future if Pacman were to get in trouble while in Texas” … well, that’s stupid. If the cowboys think he’s going to get into trouble, maybe they shouldn’t trade for him! You can’t put his former team on the hook for what Pacman does while employed with the Cowboys!

I’m sorry, but I don’t see how Roger Goodell can avoid reinstating Pac-Man. He may not want to reinstate Jones, but he can’t continue to punish the guy for past trouble.
Pac-Man did some bad things. He’s clearly immature, and he’s entertaining to make fun of. But–whether from added effort or just plain luck–he has stayed out of trouble during his suspension.
Has he been working on hunger relief in 3rd World Countries? No, he hasn’t. But he hasn’t been getting into any more trouble, and Goodell could set a very dangerous precedent if he decides not to reinstate Pac-Man and to extend his suspension.

Samh , I am not sure what you are thinking but When an owner has as much to do with his brand and furthering the league, vs. and owner who lets his underlings handle his business, a little more lattitude is giving. Also, the league would want a troubled player playing for a franchise that sinks lots of money in off the field support like the Cowboys vs a team that does little for off the field support like Bud Adams and the Titans.
As far as the extra pick for insurance, are the Titans not asking for a conditional pick depending on him playing? DO teams not put in safeguard with playing incentives every day? GET REAL.

You know, the nutty thing about these negotiations on the draft pick is that the boys 5th round pick is relatively the same pick as their 6th round pick they got from miami, which is the first pick in the 6th round. only a few picks apart. So Jerry, give them the 5th. Very little difference.

Adam Jones should be afforded the opportunity to screw up or not screw up again. He’s served his punishment. Kept his nose clean so far. He’s down to his last chance. Let’s see what he makes of it. If he trips up again, banish him for life. He should be afforded a chance to prove he’s rehabilitated. If not, “Pac-Man” may be all out of “power pellets”….

How can they not let him back in. I also agree with samh. It should have nothing to do with what team he plays for.

Well, Bubba and Samh, let’s all just set aside our differences and realize that if not for Jerri Jones, the NFL would be the NHL and nobody would know where Dallas is. He’s a truly great American and one of the 5 most important people in the 20th century and should be treated in accordance by placing his interests above the other 31 NFL owners. We should all say a prayer for Jerr-ah when we hit our knees tonight.
And as far as how can you avoid letting Pac-Man Jones in? Call Odell Thurman and ask him.

Jerry Jones is terrific owner and whoever says he is not is blinded by jealousy. He puts the Cowboys this league above all else except family. He takes care of his players and you never hear negative words from his mouth. So lick it Sam H.

bubba,
That’s wonderful. I never said that Jerry wasn’t a good — great — owner. He is a good owner and a decent GM. But that doesn’t mean he gets to play by a different set of rules and it has nothing to do with the fact that it’s ridiculous for the Cowboys to expect the Titans to cover the Cowboys’ collective asses if Pacman screws up WHILE A COWBOY. I also would not put Jerry Jones in the category of “cares more about the NFL than his own team/bottom line” and you really can’t prove otherwise. He knows that each of other teams is looking out for themselves, and so he’s going to look out for his own. I’m not saying that’s bad, but let’s not make the man into some kind of saint.
And again, I don’t think it should matter what team Pacman plays for - either his suspension is justified or it isn’t. Goodell doesn’t work for Jerry Jones - he works for Jones and the other 31 teams. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, right?
