Defensive tackle Manny Wright is best known for an on-field crying spell induced by then-Fins coach Nick Saban. Wright, who surfaced with the Giants and won a Super Bowl ring there in a reserve role last season, might be shedding tears again.
The Giants have released Wright, who spent one week participating in the team’s offseason workout program before returning to California.
If they cut him because he opted not to participate in voluntary workouts, however, Wright could pursue a grievance against the team.
He was a supplemental draft pick of the Dolphins in 2005. He missed all of the 2006 season while suffering from clinical depression.

He did win a ring with the Giants last year though so he doesn’t have too much to cry about.

Manny Wright has a Super Bowl Ring and Dan Marino, Zach Thomas, and Jason Taylor do not. What a shame.

In a contact sport that gives the fans, bone jarring hits, and bodies flying everywhere, it’s known, that a lot of damage is done to the body and brain, and a result of some of this brain damage is, depression. Despite these issues these guys man up week to week. Hopefully he doesn’t spiral downward from any of this.

The guy could have been good, he left USC after his redshirt sohpmore year. The kid could have continued to mature personally and learn how to properly play his position and collected an NFL check for 10 years.

I may be mistaken, but I don’t think this guy played one snap in the postseason. He may be GIVEN the ring, but he certainly did not EARN the ring. This is a loss, how?

@ Grimlock
Does a defensive tackle take that many jarring hits to the head? Of the people who sustain multiple concussions and get dementia, I don’t DT would be a position where this would happen (more likely linebacker, safety, offensive skill positions).
I’m not saying lineman don’t sustain injuries, just not usually concussions.

Well, I just wanted to say that I feel bad about Wright here. There is mental illness in my family so I know very well how it is to live with a sickness like this and its sad that this might cost him a shot at living his dream.
I do hope that he will get well in time.
