B.J. Sams, a defensive back whose primary work during four years with the Baltimore Ravens has been as a returner of kickoffs and punts, has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, presumably to be a returner of kickoffs and punts.

Per the Kansas City Star, Sams has signed a one-year contract.

He’ll replace Eddie Drummond, who replaced Dante Hall, who was earlier in the decade one of the most dynamic kick returners in the history of the league.

Sams tore an ACL in Week One of the 2007 season, and suffered an ugly broken ankle late in the 2006 season.

He also has been arrested twice for DUI, which will give him a way to break the ice with one of his new teammates.  (Sams was acquitted of at least one of the charges, in May 2007.)
