B.J. Sams, a defensive back whose primary work during four years with the Baltimore Ravens has been as a returner of kickoffs and punts, has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, presumably to be a returner of kickoffs and punts.
Per the Kansas City Star, Sams has signed a one-year contract.
He’ll replace Eddie Drummond, who replaced Dante Hall, who was earlier in the decade one of the most dynamic kick returners in the history of the league.
Sams tore an ACL in Week One of the 2007 season, and suffered an ugly broken ankle late in the 2006 season.
He also has been arrested twice for DUI, which will give him a way to break the ice with one of his new teammates. (Sams was acquitted of at least one of the charges, in May 2007.)

Are you sure they didn’t actually sign P.K. Sam?
Are the Chiefs sure?

He will be a nice pick up if he is healthy. He was a great return man for us Raven fans. He did not have a knack for the endzone, but he always had great averages and timley returns. He seeks out the sideline a little too much, but when you keep getting your legs crushed, it is understandable.

Chiefs fans, get ready for some sort of excitement every time he receives a kick. Sometimes it will be a long, game changing return, then it might be running into the back of his blockers, or bobbling a snap. Then every couple games he’ll field a punt on the 3 with gunners bearing down on him, or he’ll just put the ball on the turf for no apparent reason.
One way or another, it’s always an adventure (assuming he is healthy enough to play)! Good luck with that.

Well, he can’t be any worse than Eddie Drummond. I’m not a big fan of signing a guy with two DUI’s that can’t really play another position, but watching Drummond last year made me want Dante Hall back, which is a miracle given his last few years with the Chiefs.
