The game broadcasts will not be the same without Bryant Gumble. Now who is going to let us know that it's "the two minute morning" before halftime and the end of the game. I guess there goes my dream of the ultimate awful announcing team with him doing play by play and Emmitt doing color commentary.

Dear PFTalk:

I'll miss Gumbel.

He was a top-flight announcer
with a sharp command of the facts who made accuracy
and honesty his trademark.

Gumbel lost me with his comments about the winter olympics, something about "looking like a GOP convention" with no world class athletes. (No blacks = No sport) Personally, my favorite game of all time was the 1980 Olympic Hockey game against Russia.

If that isn't racist, I don't know what is. (I found it odd that Jimmy the Greek got fired, Rush Limbaugh got fired, but Gumbel didn't)

now, if only fox will get rid of Joe Buck....or at least replace him for the NFL games. He needs to stick with baseball seeing as he's just as boring.

Bryant Gumbel is an extremely sharp guy. He understood what was being said about him. He's one of the greatest television journalists of our time, and obviously NFL play-by-play was NOT for him, whatsoever. I hope he keeps haulin some ass on "Real Sports," though.

I like Collinsworth. Always have. I hope he stays. I am very curious to see who replaces Gumbel. It's probably someone on staff already. I honestly could see Faulk doing it if he chose to work hard to do it properly. He is very good at what he does, but they are looking for the play by play guy...I love NFLN.

Oh and SeanMartin, how could Gumbel singlehandedly drive you away from NFLN? I mean seriously the Network has solid coverage 24/7/365 with no trace of Gumbel except for 30 hours per year. And if it is a good game nobody would refuse to watch it just because Gumbel is calling it. He sucked, but if you watch anything but the lead games year around like on Sunday Ticket or local TV, you get as bad or worse on CBS covering Dolphins/Texans games. How could Gumbel drive you away from the other 267 days he is nowhere to be found on there?

I'm glad to hear that Gumbel is finally out at NFLN, but I hold no personal animus against him. On the other hand however, I don't get the network because I have Time Warner cable as my provider. With each passing day I find myself inching towards DirecTV.

I find Gumbel's remarks to Goodell interesting. I was not aware of them until I read this post.

2 excrutiating seasons of listening to this guy made me want to pull all of my damn hair out!! Thank you Jesus, Alah, and Ghandi!!!gumble certainly made nfln telecasts VERY hard to listen to. Maybe the rest of the networks will follow this example and get rid of these other idiots who think it's their place to add their own "twist" to calling an NFL game. Am I saying that the play by play and analyst guys need to be boring, hell no, but serious consideration should be put into who will have these duties.

OMFG THANK GOD!!!!!!

Now I won't have to hear him say "Team X will turn it over on downs" everytime they punt.

Seriously, Gumbel might've been good for covering figure skating at the Olympics or table tennis or badminton but leave football to someone who suits commentating a man's game.

Bryant Gumbel announces a football game like he is reading you a bedtime story.

He's generally pretty good on his "Real Sports" show. They produce some really interesting stories, but he just flat out sucked at calling a game. Forget the politics of the NFL. He needed to go because he simply wasn't good at his job.

The problem with his comment about Upshaw is that he is misguided. If the CBA in place was so bad, how come the owners want to cancel it and renegotiate? The players salaries have increased, their rights have increased, the popularity of league as a whole has increased. The players shold be extended his contract and thanking him for doing a great job. Gumble is an attention hound. He only said it to get attention for himself.

I thought this when I initially heard of the NFLN: "What a great concept, football all the time. I would love to watch information on other teams that I normally couldn't see. I wish I had the NFLN."
Then I was introduced to Gumbel. He single handedly pushed me away from the NFLN. Who wants this guy (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7792606446647744479&q=bryant+gumbel&total=69&start=0&num=100&so=0&type=search&plindex=1) talking about their team?

No, not why did he leave, but I never figured out what he was doing there in the first place. His ex-Today co-host Jane Pauley would have been better to listen to.

He was right about Upshaw. He is Big Paulies puppet. The interest of the game should have been his secondary concern. The interest of the players is all he gets paid to represent.

Gumble was the worst football announcer on TV by a landslide though.
