Last month, there were rumors and reports of discussions between the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants regarding a possible trade that would send tight end Jeremy Shockey from Broadway to the Bayou.
As we’d last heard it, the Giants wanted a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper, and the Saints declined.
But now renewed talk of a possible trade is emerging, from an unlikely source. Several readers have pointed out to us that WWE announcer Jim Ross has posted the following entry on his blog: “Reggie Bush was also at [WrestleMania] 24 and was hanging around Snoop Dogg’s trailer most of the afternoon on Sunday. My sources tell me that the New York Giants are going to trade outstanding TE Jeremy Shockey to Bush’s Saints, prior to the NFL draft. Shockey is an Oklahoma kid from Ada who told me last week he was looking forward to playing for the Saints.”
Shockey has been the subject of extensive speculation, given that he played no role in the team’s stunning postseason run. Some believe that Eli Manning never would have become a championship-caliber quarterback is Shockey had not been injured.

Saints head coach Sean Payton was the offensive coordinator for the Giants for the first few years of Shockey’s career. Payton’s offense went to shockey a lot more than the Gaint’s currently do; I could see Shockey being happy with this trade because of this.

Who cares about Shockey. He’s gotta be the biggest whiner and crybaby in the NFL

Big mistake for the Saints. This guy is a team killer and a turd on the field. Problem with him is that he’s not as good as he thinks he is; drops too many passes and celebrates when he finally brings one in. He’s better off going to the Raiders.

Yeah uhhh, I think the honor of biggest crybaby in the nfl goes to your boy T.O. I mean not only did he cry his way out of philly but he LITERALLY cried his eyes out on NATIONAL television after the boys lost to the giants. Don’t be such a homer.

Watching Shockey double fist the mixed drinks in the luxury box at the Super Bowl, I’m sure Borboun Street, the French Quarter and the all-night bars will not be a distraction for him.

severly overrated. No longer the best tight end In the NFC. That belongs to witten/cooley.
Do the saints really need more offense? If I were there I’d ask for some defense. They have no playmakers on defense other then the defensive line.

Great move for the Giants if they can swing it. It frees up an assitant coach as well. Every series that Shockey doesn’t get thrown to, an assistant coach has to be at his side pretending to listen to him b*tching. Shockey has the skills, but he also brings the attitude of a petulant two year old.

Whoa MVP, low blow. I’d take Shockey if Giants wanted to trade him. And the Saints don’t want a strong TE because of…? It’s not like he drops every pass, he’s an improvement to that team if he’s traded. His mouth and attitude can be tamed.

As a die hard Giants fan I say it is time to part ways with him. Even after winning it all last year and how improved the team seemed without him he still doesn’t show up for work outs with the team.

One of the best blocking TE’s in the NFL, and he’s still a playmaker when given the chance. Kevin Boss will be a good TE, but he’s a huge drop-off from JS. I’m sure the Giants will listen to offers, but I don’t think they trade a core player away for a 2nd round pick and second rate Safety.

If he stays with the Giants, after the way the season ended, I don’t see how Shockey has any credibility with the team. I can imagine Kevin Boss getting equal, if not more, playing time given his effectiveness.

i hope this deal doesn’t happen for two reasons. 1 is that i am an eagles fan and shockey is one of the most overrated players in the nfl and he rarely produces against the birds; and 2 is that the saints would be a great partner for the eagles in dealing lito. the saints seem to be big fans of eagle players, they have enough of them on the roster!

Considering the Saints recent draft history, trading a pick for a proven NFL TE wouldn’t be a bad thing…

Can’t say I’m too too shocked, but it’s kind of pathetic that “several” football fans read some WWF blog. I think I got over that phase when I turned eleven.

Energy2burn, how would the Saints trading for Shockey effect the Eagles trading Lito to them? Isn’t the player rumored to be involved from the Saints a DB?

Why would any team want a cancer like Shockey? He’s nowhere near as talented as he thinks.

As a Saints fan myself, Shockey is an upgrade of all the TE’s on their roster. I think they could bring him back down to earth with the group of guys they have on their roster now. Brees would keep him happy too. Remember how much fun he use to have with Antonio Gates.
A couple things that strike me as funny….
TO is the biggest crybaby out there. Remember this year…”Dont blame Tony….:sniffle:That’s not fair….:sniff, sniff: thats my quartaback man….sniffle, sniffle.” Gimme a break TO!
Secondly, I think its funny how the Gmen fans are suddenly turning on their man Shockey after they win the superbowl without him. They were loving life with Shockey before he was injured. They celebrated in the end zone with him. Now he’s a dog? Keep thinking Boss is your man, haha. If Boss was so great, how come he wasnt starting pre-Shockey injury? There was a reason for that you know.

ok no…I am a huge Giants fan and I think this trade is a terrible trade. Shockey is not overrated, he is one of the best blocking tight ends in the leagues and is still a play maker. He has made huge strides in terms of maturity and is in no way a cancer. I’m pretty sure Eli flat out told the media he is looking forward to having Shockey back in the huddle so their relationship isn’t a worry. Name one over the top celebration you saw him do after scoring last season for the time he wasn’t injured. I’m pretty sure the worst thing I saw him do was give an American soldier watching the game the ball he scored with. And for the things he’s done in the past, I think most would agree that Bill Parcells is a homo. And for that Eagle fan who thinks he knows football and says Shockey doesn’t perform against the Eagle, I have a picture of Shockey you can have that shows him on one knee imitating your team obliterator T.O. by flapping his arms up and down. The Giant’s would be stupid to let this deal happen. Imagine a double tight end set with Shockey and Boss. Game Over. Shockey stays.
