I don't know about the Condon angle - that just seems like Florio Speculation. However, I think Condon really has to do well for his QB clients this year. After Quinn first slid, then held out and lost the chance to start to Frye then DA, then DA again this year... Condon is not helping his QB prosepects and future prospects are going to start to notice.

I don't buy this story. If it was true, Condon would really push to get Ryan picked first. You know Long and Gholston won't slide, but Ryan surely could.
Condon would want the 1-2-3 picks before he'd want the 1-2-15 picks.

He's going to slide like Leon Lett on Turkey Day '93.

The most disturbing thing about Ryan is Mike Mayock's man-crush.

The Fins aren't negotiating with him, because they know he's not deserving of a 3-5% increase on JaMarcus Russell's deal. It has more to do with no one wanting to trade up for him, than who he's represented by.

MVP, 1st round QBs are risks, but you wouldn't take any No. 1 overall ... ever? There's, you know,

John Elway. Troy Aikman. Terry Bradshaw. Joe Namath. Drew Bledsoe. Eli Manning. Carson Palmer.

Saying "never" is never a good idea.

I personally like Matt Ryan. Perhaps he is not worthy of a No. 1 overall selection, though. Whatever the case, in Bill Parcels the Dolphins should trust. Let's see if he truly revamps the flailing franchise or not.

Don't count on Ryan not sliding. A lot of people said Brady Quinn would never get past the Panthers last year.

Parcells is making a mistake in not at least pretending to talk to Ryan.

Now, if a team wants Ryan, there is no need for it to call the Dolphins to see what it will take to get to number 1. By reducing the number of phone calls he'll get for the pick, Parcells isnt maximizing the value of the pick.

Which, as a Bills fan, works for me just fine.

As a Dolphins fan I am glad to hear that Ryan is not an option at #1. I don't view him as a great prospect, the qb position is just very weak this draft. In fact, I would not be surprised at all if Flacco turns out to be the best qb in this class. I also think there is a good chance that Beck turns out to be better than Ryan once the Phins surround him with some more talent.

The NFL must think Matt Ryan will go in the top 10 or they would not have invited him. If he does slide I think he will show much more "poise" than Quinn from a year ago. Remember he didn't just look like a schmuk, he exited the stage then came back adding to his schmuckdom (thanks Emitt). I guess you could say he was debocalized.
Will Emitt be part of the Draft coverage? I want to hear him pronounce the tuff names like Gholston, Otah, Talib, and Long.

>> "why would an agent do anything to decrease the pre-draft buzz regarding his client?"

Just a theory: Tom "ribbed for her pleasure" Condon is sending a message to all the teams hoping to land a QB in the first round: "If you wanted Ryan and didn't have the goods to trade up to the #1 spot, now's your chance to draw up your battle plan to move up to #3 instead -- he'll be there." (or something to that effect) All it would take is 2 teams to be interested enough in Ryan's services to stir the pot of wheeling & dealing at the #3 spot (and Condon stands to land 2 of his own clients, not to mention other CAA draftees, in the top 5).

Ok, so it's a rather flimsy theory. I just wanted to try out the condom reference.

smokescreen alert! Parcells is purposely mentioning who he is negotiating with as much as who he isn't...publically. Condon is playing along because he gets the money either way. A QB makes more long term therefore Condon doesn't need Ryan to go #1 so he gladly plays along. There is no way Parcells doesn't say here is our offer, take it back to your 3 clients and see which one wants to be the #1 overall pick in a draft year where the talent has no stand out candidate

Until Archie Manning has another son who enters the draft, no NFL franchise is going to want to spend the huge money that is now required to sign a QB as the first overall pick.

Possible exception being when the Broncos sign Tim Tebow next year...

Ryan's going to drop quicker than Najeh Davenport's ass in a college dorm room.

He's a good prospect but not worth the millions that Miami would have to shell out. I would'nt pick any QB #1 ever; its just too difficult of a position to come in and be good right away. With very few exceptions, it normally takes 3-4 years before a QB finally settles in. Look at the '05 draft........Alex Smith goes #1 and Aaron Rodgers falls to 24. I think in the long run Rodgers will be better off as he wasn't forced to play right away beacuse of the contract. He had 3 years under Favre and the opportubity to learn the posotion at the NFL level.

I agree. I just don't see him going in the top 10, and if Chicago and Detroit don't bite, it could be a very long slide.

People keep saying if he slides to 8 or to 14 or whatever, the team has to take him. With all the first round failures at QB, why take him so high just because he is the best QB this year. Most other years he could be the 3rd or 4th QB, and if he was taken in the top 10, that team would be criticized for years.

Why just because he is the best this year does he have to be a high pick?

I may be wrong, but he definitely doesn’t look like a sure thing to me.

You can't manufacture a quarterback. Matt Ryan is a very accurate passer but he has no arm strength. He'll be an above average Q.B. at best. Definately not a #1 overall.

Ryan is in for a Brady Quinn-esque drop

Why is going to the draft? Doesn't he know how embarrasing its going to be when they keep showing him sitting there, waiting....and waiting. And i doubt his g/f is as hot as BQ's was
