Though he has been a subject of considerable discussion and reporting and rumors in the past 12 months, Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has officially been out of the NFL for one full year as of today.
Happy anniversary?
Moving forward, his status remains unclear. He applied for reinstatement after ten regular-season games in 2007, and his request was rejected. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has indicated that he will review Jones’ situation before the opening of training camp.
Some league insiders think that Jones will never play again in the NFL, and that Goodell is being deliberate regarding Jones’ status in a deliberate effort to cajole him into saying or doing something that will justify a further suspension.
If/when Jones is permitted to return, his destination is equally unclear. The Cowboys were presumed to be on the verge of trading for Jones, but discussions have bogged down. Recently, owner Jerry Jones indicated that, the longer it takes for the deal to happen, the less likely the deal becomes.
Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper reports that the New England Patriots could eventually emerge as a candidate for Pacman’s services. Per McCormick, the Pats have talked to the Titans on a behind-the-scenes basis, but have not yet formally negotiated with the team about a trade.
On the surface, it seems highly unlikely that the Patriots would want Jones. Then again, who would have guessed a year ago that they’d pursue Randy Moss?

The comparison of Pacman to Randy Moss makes no sense. Both Randy Moss & Cory Dillon became malcontents on teams that did not understand what it takes to win. They weren’t out there making it RAIN or involved in shootings.Pipe down Raider fans, you’ll agree its time for Al to go live in the old folks home & let someone else run the team.Pacman Jones is a repeat offender within the criminal justice system. From his comments,he still doesn’t get it.

As a Redskins fan I hope every day that the cowboys somehow end up with Pacman. Something tells me a man with zero discipline isn’t going to come back to the league after over a year banishment with anywhere near the same speed and skill he displayed during his time in college and the NFL. I mean people talk about him coming back and being a top 10 cornerback. I’d say he’d be more likely to be benched by the end of the season.

Talked to Pacman on a behind the scenes basis? Is this not what cost the 49ers a 5th round pick and their position in the third? Regardless of the suspension, isn’t Pacman still under contract to the Titans, and therefore not to be tampered with?

Question? If the Pats have talked to Pacman behind the scenes, isn’t that tampering, since he’s still the property of the Titans?

Haven’t the Titans given Pacman permission to seek a trade? If so, I don’t think it would count at tampering.

If a coach takes in a player, he’s not hoping that player won’t follow his set of rules. A coach takes in a player if he believes he can control him and they can work PROGRESSIVELY towards a common goal, just like every other player. If you don’t think Belichick sat Moss down and said, “Look, this is a business here in New England. We do things right and we play hard, no bullsh-t. We want to win”, then you’re crazy. If the Patriots are pursuing Pacman, which I think they probably are, then expect Belichick to lay the law down on his ass. Pacman will get a mediocre paycheck and a lot of playing time. He’ll stay in line, or the Patriots will set him free, hence the affordable paycheck. If Jones is looking for big money, he’ll find it in Dallas. I hear Jerry Jones loves a good show…

Its not tampering if their talking to the TITANS! How dumb can you people be. They have to talk to the player for it to be tamering.
“According to sources, the Pats have contacted the Titans about Jones behind the scenes, but have yet to enter into any formal negotiations.”

Why are so many of “you” happy that Pacman is suspended? What do you care if he enjoys some adult entertainment? I agree that illegal activity should be punished — by the legal system. I do not agree that Pacman’s actions reflect negatively upon the NFL. I believe they reflect negatively on Pacman. I also do not believe that Tom Brady’s action of fathering a child out of wedlock reflects negatively on the NFL.

Hehe, this idea exists only in the fevered minds of the Titans management as they desperately thrash about trying to convince Jerry Jones that someone else is interested in PacMan so they can get the picks they want.
Lame.

Mini Ditka: You are not seriously comparing getting your girlfriend pregnant with starting a brawl by roughing up a stripper, a brawl that ends with your friend shooting and paralyzing a bouncer.
If you don’t think Pacman, and other players like him, make the NFL look bad you are a retard.

Moss never had as rapsheet like Dillon’s or Jones’. His signing was low risk. Moss even gets compared to TO. Jones is a different story. If he is allowed back in the league, he’ll know that it’s his last shot and that should lower the risk. The Patriots should offer nothing more than a 5th and no players.
