Last week, Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler spoke out publicly regarding his frustrations with receiver Brandon Marshall.  In response, Hall of Fame Broncos quarterback John Elway seems to be questioning Cutler’s decision to flap the team’s dirty laundry for all to see.

I was surprised to hear it actually,” Elway said Wednesday, according to CBS 4 in Denver.  “[Marshall] cutting his arm is not that big of deal to me.  Obviously, he was wrestling with his brother.  He’s still a kid.”

But then Elway seemed to backtrack.  We think.

“If that’s what Jay feels like he needs to comment on, he needs to do that,” Elway said.  “Personally, I would’ve done it to him.  Even though I tried to settle things in the press, looking back over the years, it hasn’t been the right way to do it.”

We’re not sure we follow those last two sentences from Elway, and as a result it’s hard for us to tell where Elway stands on the issue.

Our view is that Cutler would have been better off handling the situation behind closed doors.  Maybe he’d previously tried to do so, to no avail.

Regardless, the Cutler-Marshall friction is another reason to keep a close eye on the Broncos in 2008.  They could be in danger of imploding.

UPDATE:  This item from the Colorado Springs Gazette makes Elway’s remarks a bit more clear.
