Al Jones, the sports writer for the Biloxi, Mississippi Sun-Herald who has long had a close relationship with Brett Favre, has some quotes today from Favre in which the retired Packers quarterback doesn’t completely rule out playing again.
“I guess the best response would be, right now no,” Favre said about whether he would consider coming back.
But Favre also said that, if Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered an injury and the team asked him to return, “It would be hard to pass up, I guess. … It’s only speculating. I think the world of that team. I had a lot of fun, not only this year, but over my career. Those guys I played with this past year, a lot of young guys, a lot of fun. … And if that opportunity presented itself and they did call, it would be tempting. And I very well could be enticed to do it.”
Favre has said that it’s the preparation to play — not showing up and playing on Sundays — that wears him down, and that even if he were tempted to come back, he might decline to do it because, “You just can’t show up and play.”
Some of the speculation that Favre could return to the NFL has centered on the fact that he has not yet filed his retirement paperwork. But Favre told Jones that he didn’t even know it was necessary to file any paperwork to make his retirement official.
And he also said that he learned from his agent, Bus Cook, that even if he were to send in his paperwork, “You can change your mind the next day.”

Wow, he just can’t stand his name being out of the papers for even a week… What kind of agent does not inform his client that he needs to file papers to retire, he knows exactly what he is doing and what needs to be done.

Dear Cheeseheads,
He’s… G-O-N-E… D-O-N-E… As in bye, bye…as in see ya Bret. Get used to it. Well, he may come back to see if he can actually win a game in Dallas.”
Yeah….cuz Tony Romo knows how to handle the big games, right?
That’s some tough talk for a guy whose QB can’t hold a snap for a playoff winning field goal, can’t get his mind off of his blond bimbo during a game, and who’ll probably never get to the big game…..ever. That Cowboys team is one more jag/inmate away from imploding, and when ToMo blows it this year and next and Jerry Jones says he’s seen enough, we’ll remember who couldn’t win what.

everyone saying that doesnt want to be out of the spotlight, that he needs to go away, that he is selfish for still wanting all this attention, etc… needs to realize that it isnt brett seeking out the media saying “ask me questions” about this or that. the media loves him, and understandably. while he probably does enjoy the spotlight still to some degree, he is not seeking attention. and as a HUGE favre and packer fan, as much as i LOVE seeing him under center, and as STRANGE as it feels to see anyone else there- i want rodgers there this year. its time, god it sucks to say, but its time to see what this kid can do. if he can stay healthy i have no question that he can be very very good. he has a great arm, can run, and has shown great awareness at the l.o.s. we all love ya brett my boy, but be a dad and a husband now…as for the future(next season, the season after) i can not say i would hate it to see him play again…but lets be realistic, it PROBABLY wont happen.

I can’t stand it any longer. We all know Brett Favre will probably not be coming back. However, any Packer fan-any football fan for that matter-who would not welcome him back with excitement is a digrace to the game. Brett is a representation of everything that is still honorable about pro sports. Sure the kid (AR) deserves a chance. But if a football legend wants to play more, you jump and throw a parade!

Favre is retired. Done. He will not come back for the Packers or any other team. He is notorious for leading on the media with the retirement question ever since it was asked. As a Packers fan I would love to see him come back and play another year but I will not get my hopes up. I don’t think he or his family will allow himself/him to change his mind on retiring.
