The Pittsburgh Steelers apparently are interested in Auburn defensive end/outside linebacker Quentin Groves. In turn, Groves clearly wants to be a Steeler.
“Ever since I was little, I was always a Steeler fan,” said Groves, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “When I saw that black and gold for the first time, it was like, ‘man, I love the way those guys play defense.
“I’m kind of an old-school guy. Mean Joe Greene, he was probably one of the best I’ve ever seen doing what he does. I didn’t grow up watching them but back over time, you watched guys like Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann — how did he make that catch, how did he make that throw? I’ve got a chance to be a part of that if Pittsburgh drafts me. It’s just those guys, and the things they did for that organization.”
The Steelers reportedly are bringing Groves in for a pre-draft visit. The Browns, Bengals, Dolphins, 49ers, Saints, Patriots, Giants, and Jets are doing so as well.
Though several mock drafts and player rankings suggest that Groves will still be on the board when the Steelers use the 23rd overall pick, it’s possible that someone will try to leapfrog the Steelers to get him, if the Steelers want him.
Then again, it’s hard to know for sure what anyone wants this time of year, and the smokescreens and the B.S. will only intensify as the next couple of weeks unfold.

Actually wanting to work in that hellhole is a sure sign of mental defect. I’m sure the Steelers won’t have any competition for his services.

Groves is one of several guys in this crop who could be effective in a 3-4 that plays some 4-3 sets since he apparently has experience at both DE and OLB and is pretty quick - actually a bit faster than Derrick Harvey. So, I’m not at all surprised in the interest he (and Cliff Avril) are generating with a lot of teams.
Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me a lot (and wouldn’t be that much of a “reach”) if the Pats were to pick him up at #7, assuming Gholston is gone.

I really can’t see the Steelers taking a LB #1 after taking a LB 1 and 2 last year.

The Steelers did pretty well with an OLB from Auburn back in the 90’s.
I have been saying for a couple years now that a problem with the Steelers’ D is a lack of a dynamic pass-rushing OLB like Kevin Greene or Chad Brown. With the departures of Porter & Haggans they definitely lack depth. I’m disappointed to see this made public now.

I still get a kick out of the fact that the Browns brought him in for a look (as well as Jerod Mayo). Could this mean a QB is still on the block? Either way, Groves is a great fit for the 3-4 for whomever takes him.
