The Washington Redskins signed their first free agent who didn’t play in 2007 with the Washington Redskins.
The new player is receiver Jerome Mathis, a three-year member of the Houston Texans who didn’t receive a restricted free agent tender after being arrested for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend in February. (Charges have since been dropped, primarily because the alleged victim moved out of state and asked for the charges to be dropped.)
Hey, Redskins — why didn’t you just make a waiver claim for Chris Henry?
The Washington Times points out that the team waited until 7:00 p.m. on Friday to send out a release announcing the move, which apparently was aimed at avoiding unnecessary scrutiny of the decision.
As one media source told us, “No way they bring this guy on when [Joe] Gibbs was in charge.”

hey msullivan 1984. pitt stillers? do you mean steelers? hey donkey steelers have 17/5 (17 who spent most of their time in pitt and 5 with short time) oh and the redskins have 17/5. the last superbowl you won was as a 6 seed. the worst superbowl champion in nfl history. just got hot at the right time. Giants weren’t the best in 2007. They werent the best in their divison. 10 and 6, are you kinding me? The patriots were. Oh and the skins are the second richest team. Dallas is the richest.

To say that Gibbs wouldn’t have added this guy is a bit flawed. To make that argument, one would only look at the last four years, but Gibbs has a much longer resume. Anyone remember Dexter Manley?
And by the way, I love the guys that want to point how many Super Bowl rings they have and that is how they justify who is a better franchise. The Steelers were established in 1933. They didn’t even know what a championship was until the 1970’s. If you want to bring up the past remember that it goes further than 1975.

Don’t laugh. I’m on the phone with Chris Henry’s agent as I type this. Henry is just the sort of tall receiver this team needs. We’ll load his contract with incentives and get a babysitter for him.

The real question is why???
He’s a below average WR. They have on e of the NFL’s top Kick Returners in Rock Cartwright and a very solid Punt Returner in Randel El.
So, again I ask, WHY???

When you have to argue that your team is worth the most $$$, you have little to argue about. But, that is life as a Redskins fan.
And rebel85, I’m not a Giants fan, but I’m smart enough to know they won the freaking Super Bowl. Who cares about their Regular Season record.

I believe the proper usage is turd herding.
I’m a little shocked my beloved Redskins would sign Mathis, even if he is somewhat of a local guy. They usually only go after no talent overpaid losers. I guess Cerrato is adding lack of character to his criteria.

Joe Gibbs wouldn’t have signed this guy…period. Dexter Manley had many issues but one thing was/is consistent…he will always be a Redskin. We’ll always have love for the guy…he can play on my team anyday. Hail!
