In response to Sam Farmer’s recent report for the Los Angeles Times that agent Bus Cook is quietly talking to other teams about a possible trade for retired quarterback Brett Favre, a league source tells us that Cook definitely had been doing this.
Cook’s motives remain unclear. It’s possible that he wants to line up a new option for Brett and then present it to him in order to see whether he bites. Or maybe this Cook’s (or Favre’s) way of keeping Favre’s name in circulation.
For the record, Cook has said that the reports of such discussions are “absolutely false.” Also for the record, Favre says that he’s not coming back.
The bottom line here could be that Cook thinks that Favre really isn’t done, regardless of the words emanating from his mouth. Remember this — it’s Cook who said that he thinks Favre felt unwanted by the Packers. And what non-family member knows Favre better than the guy who has represented Favre since he entered the league in 1991?

I hope Favre stays retired, I don’t feel like watching him cry again - Crap gets old after the first couple of times.

How in the world is Bus Cook going to talk a team into coughing up what would presumably be a high round draft pick for someone who waffles more on retirement than anyone in the history of the game? Aside from Tampa’s addiction to collecting QB’s.
Plus, Green Bay kind of holds the cards, don’t they? If the reports of Favre having a rift with Thompson are true, then Thompson could just decline any offers and, in delicious irony, absolutely force Favre to retire. It’s not like Lord Favre can merely wave a finger and be allowed to orchestrate a trade to who ever he wants.

To stick with a team that was struggling and then leave when one win away from a Super Bowl shows a man that’s fried or mad at management. Bus Cook is spreading rumors. They haven’t filed retirement papers. And Favre’s response is typical lawyer speak. Instead of saying “No!” or “It will never happen!”, he’s saying “I’m not thinking of that right now”. Everything he said in that SI article is open-ended, it can be reversed.
I don’t think Favre is necessarily coming back. But I also don’t think he’s slammed the door shut just to see what happens…

What about Ted’s addiction to collecting draft picks?

Here’s what I don’t get about the whole “Packers didn’t want me back” thing.
Suppose the Favre was getting the impression that the Packers didn’t really want him back… WHO CARES? You’re Brett Favre. Announce you’re coming back, and the fans of Green Bay and Wisconsin will have your back and wouldn’t care what the organization did.
If he didn’t come back because the Packers “Didn’t really want him”, he STILL could have made the choice to announce to the media “I’m coming back”. What would the Packers do? Cut Favre? That’s PR suicide.
Favre doesn’t want to play anymore. If the team sent him letters and cards… or barely called him, it was his decision.

It sure seems as though the conspiracy theories are actually coming true in this situation. Maybe Thompson did push him out, and Favre really is p.o’d? it certainly seems to be the case. It’s definatly a read between the lines situation going on here.
I’m not going to be like a lot of the people here feeling bitter about Favre. If he comes back great for him. He deserves a team that actually wants him. If he stays retired that’s fine too.
If he does come back does that make all the retirement collectables worthless? hum?

Yea, they gave Ted to much money, and an extension way to quickly.
Slingblade Thompson could still easily fall on his face.
“Slingblade Thompson, The Draft Pick Collector”
Man, this might work! He could get 30, 7 round draft picks for Favre! Now we’re Thinkin’!

Anyone who read the sportsman of the year article, and saw the press conference saw the classic grumpy ‘ole man routine. Saw the same thing when Dick Bennett left Wisconsin — he started obsessing and was all over his players. Similarly, Favre seems to have stopped enjoying the game and became pretty obsessive about it. No linger celebrating with the family, watching game film right after the games ended. Look at the two severe cold weather games, he did not want to play in either of them. Bus Cook seems to be doing some weird stuff — claiming Randy Moss connection (I think he is somehow connected as an agent to Moss as well). Favre really really seems totally worn out to me

It is true 20 of the teams in the NFL would prefer to have a Brett Favre. When he was 28….
He is old. He is done.
We have seen through the Rhodes and Sherman Era the fact of when you let a single player effect your calling it doesn’t work. Rhodes and Sherman were like ooooo don’t piss Brett off.
THE Michael J. McCarthy put old school in place and made Favre another man on the roster. Favre knew it and let’s face it he is been in the league 17 years. He has seen the ups and the downs and is worn out. If Bus Cook wants to dream up this drama let him. The only thing you can trust is 04’s words and he came out today and said I am not coming back. Let it lay… If he wanted to come back to a divisional playoff team wouldn’t he?
I have sat through Dickey, Cade, Lofton, etc. and we still filled all 68,000 now 73,000 seats. We have done this in WI for many years and to think Favre is the only reason this has happened, try and come to a game. FYI reserve a hotel 5 months in advance. When we were 8-8 I sold my MNF ticks against the 8-8 Viqueens for $900.
Get a grip NFL. The Green Bay Packers love and adore Favre but he is not The face of the Green Bay Packers…. We the people own this team.
On that note it is pretty tough to be a Natti Fan, Broncos fan and on and on. How about paying an insane amount to a WR and hope you fill the stands in your brand new gazillion dollar stadium. uh uh uh Az…
If you have seen a game at any time during your life in Green Bay you know what I am talking about. If not read above and try and get a ticket for less than $250 before kickoff.
FYI ticket sales go down by the quarter.
P.S.
There isn’t a bad seat in the house unlike other space ships….

I really hope that Farve comes back with another team. I would love to see Maddens response to this, and hear all of the delusional Packer fans bitch and moan about it.
And what a selfish asshole, how can he be worshiped more? This guy is ridiculous and can’t stand to not hear his name in the media for more than 48 hours.
